Capodimonte porcelain actually dates back centuries in age and a vast array of wares have been marketed under this name. The name Capodimonte, meaning"top of the mountain" in Italian, is apropos considering the first pieces were produced a hilltop factory established by King Charles VII. Rare Capodimonte Figurine of Man and Woman. 1890s This small Capodimonte figurine is pure white porcelain. With gold trim. The Capodimonte style came from the merging of Ginori, in Italy, and Ernst Boehm, in Germany, creating exquisite porcelain. The mark of the crown over the N underglaze identifies the maker and time period of the 1890s. There is also an embossed number 56, and another identifying mark resembling a long key. The figurine is 2 3/4" high and the base is 2" across. The pair are elaborately dressed in the Victorian style. There is remarkable detail in the figurine, especially in the faces. It is a treasure, and it is in excellent condition.

We are pleased to be offering two of these rare antique Capodimonte caricature figurines. This week. The detail on both is much finer than the later 1950's dwarf figurines.
