Tang Dynasty, 8th or 9th Century A.D. Possibly a Ming Dynasty or 18th or 19th Century Qing Dynasty Revival Imitative. SIZE/MEASUREMENTS: Height: 145 millimeters(5 3/4 inches) Breadth: 79 millimeters(3 1/8 inches) Thickness: 80 millimeters(3 1/4 inches) CONDITION: Very good. No repairs but the majority of glaze is gone. A little wear and a few blemishes consistent with any decorative item which was buried for over one thousand years. A very thick alkaline soil deposition layer. Not flawless, but certainly in a better than average state of preservation– and unrepaired! Stands on its own. DETAIL: A nicely preserved clay statuette so wonderfully characteristic of Tang Dynasty statuary. Sancai. Or three-color glazes principally in yellow, green and brown was a development of the Tang Dynasty(618-907 AD) Sancai(three-colored" wares were first made for burial, using lead-based glazes that produced mottled and streaky effects in green, amber-brown, and cream, with an occasional addition of blue or black. The production of such exquisite porcelain items required multiple firings of fine white clay at temperatures near 1000c(1800f) degrees. A wide variety of statuettes were commonly produced such as musicians, chamberlains(butlers) maids, cooks, even animals; all designed to serve their deceased master. In early Tang dynasty. Production of sancai pottery figurines dominated the pottery scene, and their production continued well into the Ming era which advanced the art with more intense colors and finer porcelain clay. SIZE/MEASUREMENTS: Height: 278 millimeters(11 1/8 inches) Length: 232 millimeters(9 1/3 inches) Breadth: 99 millimeters(4 inches) Base: 150 x 74 millimeters(6 inches x 3 inches) 12 millimeters(1/2 inch) in thickness. CONDITION: Very good. Minor porcelain chips. There are minor chips in the porcelain glaze at the rider’s right front shoulder; to the rider’s waist, behind, center; to the back side of the horse’s right leg; at the edge of the horse’s stomach, right side, center; and at the rider’s left elbow. There is as well a scattering of minute porcelain chips throughout, and the top of the horse’s right ear is also chipped. Other than cleaning, there has been no restoration work. The minor chips could be repaired, without additional cost, if you would like our conservator to repair the chips. There remains some mild soil adhesions, small areas where soil still adheres to the statuette, despite our best efforts to clean away all soil adhesions. Of course the paint has decomposed and is powdery in those areas where the statuette was merely painted(not glazed) the rider’s head, boot, and hands. Yona, searched online brings up a wealth of hits including various inclusions in collector historical books and auction sales. 8 1/2" Tall 6" Wide 5" Front to Back. Found this Country Girl in old family basement wrapped in cloth with this unusual porcelain umbrella of incredibly fine detail(see photos) Probably should have sold them separately, found both tucked inside a box of 1950's magazines. A few tiny chips on the dress bottom, back side, and of course on the umbrella lace(see photos) Highly collectible. Tell your collector friend and help her find the right way home!

Cordey Rose& Cherub Vase 8045-17 Ceramics& Porcelain Figurines Art post-1940 Measure 6.5 inches tall 5 inches wide at base 6 inches wide at top I am not a professional appraiser or collector of this fine porcelainn. So. I am not able to comment on condition. There are some condition issues. On both cherubs there are chips on hair curls. Also one cherub appears to have some repair on piece attaching its back to the cornucopia. Im not sure if this is a repair or original to the figure due to its location. I have provided magnified photos. I dont see any other condition issues. Again. Im not an expert. Both items have Corday identification on bottom. Difficult to see in photo. Thank you for looking.
