Exquisite antique German porcelain sweetmeat basket has a handle in the shape of a cherub blowing a horn. The free form basket is decorated on the front with a single rose and leaves. The mold is very well detailed and the hand painting exceptional. The basket has a high gloss glaze and the cherub is matte. It stands 5.25" tall and 6.75" long and is in very good condition with the only issue being a some roughness on the rose. Marked GeScheibe-Alsbach Thuringia Germany and Depose. Ca. late 19th to early 20th century.

The bottom of this rare piece has the underglazed blue crossed swords mark. There is an incised 106 or 706 with an upside down triangle next to it. There is also a large number 5. This figure is in excellent original condition free from chips. Cracks, damages, alterations or repairs. The maximum approximate height to the top of his wig is 5 3/8 inches. This is a mid 18th century antique German porcelain bodkin(needle) case. Probably Meissen although possibly one of the other important early German manufactories. Construction. Style and decoration, as well as the porcelain type(porcelain body color and thickness/color of the glaze) are consistent with Meissen of the mid 18th century. This piece is unmarked, typical of this type of piece and many Meissen Objects of Vertu from the early and mid 18th century are unmarked. I am familiar with other Meissen Bodkin Cases of this time period but not this specific model, which does not have the infant bound with ribbon— this is the only reason I cannot be 100% certain it’s Meissen. If it is not Meissen, it is still certainly mid 18th century, circa 1750, and I do guarantee this time period to be correct as well as it being of German origin. Unfortunately, when dealing with an unknown model(and this model’s unknown to me but may be cataloged somewhere) a chemical analysis, such as Proton-Beam Analysis(PIXE–PIGE) of the porcelain body/glaze is the only positive means of identification. This testing is not within my means and certainly not necessary unless the piece is determined to be of significant historical importance, making a documented positive identification imperative. I don’t feel that’s the case with this piece. If you’re familiar with the large auction houses(Christie’s, Sotheby’s, etc. then you’re already aware that they often catalog these types of small, 18th century German pieces as“probably Meissen” Now. MEISSEN Brown/Red Stoneware Clay Silhouette Bust Hindenburg ? Germany
This is a unique old piece from a local estate auction. It is 8 1/2" tall. 6 3/4" wide. It has 3 chips, on the chin, bottom, and in the back, all on the edge, and all look like they are almost completely just the paint which is fairly thick. The white on the side is a remnant of an auction tag. The piece weighs 1 Lb 11 Ounces and is marked as shown. There is a raised lump under the"E" which makes it look like an"L"The inside top has a recessed section for wall hanging. It extends from a wall for 2" at the top and tapers down to the bottom.
