This is an insertion lace, meaning that both ... moreedges of the lace are straight and it was meant to be butted up against another piece of fabric or lace. On the edge of the lace(either side) there are tiny threads that can be pulled, when done, this lace can be shaped into ovals, circles, a scalloped hemline or even gathered into a ruffle. This lace has a pretty and delicate pattern, it measures 1/2" wide. When I was ironing this lace, I had sprayed starch on it and when it was damp, it touched another piece of pink fabric. There several spots of pink on this lace. I counted 3 areas of light pink and I've taken a photo of it, so you can assess the damage for yourself. It might wash out, but it might not, that being said there is still plenty of good usable lace here, as there is a total of 11-5/8 un-cut YARDS.that's a lot of lace for your sewing and crafting needs. Over the years this lace has softened to a soft, light beige. This old lace is well over 100 years old and to find this much un-cut yardage is hard to come by. Be sure to view my other lace auctions. I have to say that if this gown was ever worn by a living baby. It would have had to have been new born The unusual arm holes have been cut out. As circles in the empire bodice, and they are very closely set It would appear to me to be a perfect romantic outfit for a treasured antique doll- it just feels too small for a modern baby so please check dimensions before bidding The gown is made from crisp white. Pin tucked, lace trimmed cotton I have washed and ironed the gown and it is excellent condition There are the odd snags in the hand made bobbin lace. Lovely C1920-30 lace trimmed silky white twin size bedspread with a matching pillow sham. Both are trimmed with filet lace sporting cherubs. The bedspread measures 88" by 64" The side drop is 20" so the very top is 34" wide. The shame measures 65" by 27" Condition is good. There is one small light stain shown in the last photo. ANTIQUE/VINTAGE LACE-TRIMMED HANDKERCHIEF
This is a handkerchief from an estate sale where many pieces of late 1800-early 1900's clothing was available for sale. Therefore. Though I cannot say exactly when the handkerchief was made, but it was grouped with the antique clothing. The body of the handkerchief is of a very fine. Smooth, lightweight cotton fabric. The lace appears to be handmade, because it has some irregularities. The closest lace to this I could find through internet research and pictures, I believe this lace was made by the traditional freehand method. However, I am not an expert on old lace, so I could be mistaken as to the actual name of this type of lace. It is also possible that it was made on an early bobbin or needle machine. The handkerchief overall measures 11"x 11" The lace border is 2"W. You will note from the pictures that there are some ... moretiny pin holes and 1 small hole that is less than 1/32nd" 2mm. in length. I cannot find any loose threads or disconnected lace threads. In the close-up pictures of the small hole and pin holes. There are shadows that may appear as discolorations-they are just shadows. There are no stains anywhere on the handkerchief. The handkerchief is clean and has no odors whatsoever. The antique clothing with which the handkerchief was grouped. Had been stored by the estate owner with great care, as all of the items in the group were in amazingly good condition.

Antique to vintage metalwork lace trimmed box 10 3/4 inches by 6 1/2 inches
Over the next couple of weeks I will be listing loads of lace items. All were given to me 40 years ago by a 90 year old woman. Who has worked as a seamstress in London from the age of 10 years old! so the pieces I have are from about 1886 onwards. Nonw of the lace[this piece or any I will be offering] has a musty smell, but it does need washing to remove yellowing from age. I used many of the pieces I had in dressing antique dolls that I had either collected or reproduced myself. Unfortunately my hands and eyes don't enjoy doing such fine work anymore. So it's time to stop hoarding! As I am not a lace'buff' I will try to do my best in naming them. But could very well get it wrong. I much prefer to let the pictures speak for themselves. GEE, I am not a photographer either but I will try. When I know a piece has faults I will ... moremention them as well as showing them in the pictures. I did not see any faults however. 2 Particular item listed: This came from the same lady. I put it in the lace section thinking that it would take a lace lover to appreciate it. I really don't know if this lady made it or if a friend of hers made it as a gift for her. As the metalwork appears to be sewn on by hand. I presume that it could be removed and reused, but it would be a shame. The box measures 10 3/4 inches by 6 1/2 inches and is 2 1/2 inches high. It weighs 22 ozs, so I have no idea if it is made around an old cigar box or around a very heavy cardboard box. The main problem with this item is the deterioration on the inside of the lid- it is lined with silk which is badly faded and deteriorated. Other than that, I think it's doing good for its age! Picture#1 is a pretty good representation of the color, but in real life you can definitely see more green in the stripes. Because of it's weight, I would advise overseas buyers to think twice as the shipping costs would probably be ridiculous! Antique runner measures 66" long by 20 1/2" wide. Including the lace trim. This runner is made of sturdy medium weight natural ecru color linen and edged with heavy cotton crochet lace on three sides. Its designed to be used on a sideboard or buffet, hence the edging on three sides only. Condition is clean, strong, perfect with the exception of a finger tip sized mend, show in the photo above. The mend is 6" in from the back edge and 14" in from the left side, so its not in a very noticeable position. Very nice, usable piece of vintage linen. gorgeous antique needle lace trimmed runner, white linen+embroidery, 11.5x38"
I buy vintage linens at local estate auctions to pass them along to you. A recent auction brought a bonanza of lovely linens. This is an antique linen runner with beautiful needle lace edging. The runner is made of white linen. And the linen part measures 36" long by 9" wide; all around it is needle lace edging that is 2 1/2" wide. The runner is embroidered with delicate white-on-white floral designs, including one central large circular bloom. Below the blossom there is a diamond-shaped cutwork emblem. The embroidery continues all the way around the runner, with a line of raised dots and more flowers at the midpoint. The work is very well done. The needle lace is quite special, with large scallops and stars formed by woven sections. Please use the zoom function to appreciate the detail on this. I have laundered and pressed ... morethis and found the fabric to be sound. I found one condition issue: there is a dark spot right on the edge. As shown in the last photo. Because of its location, this dark spot is very hard to see. I thought as I was pressing this that there was some discoloration on the lace of one narrow end, but when I tried to photograph it, it does not show- see the second to last photo. This is a great piece for the lace collector! I am storing this in my smoke-free home. But I do have a cat who sheds copiously, so be aware if you have allergies. Unique Antique Linen dated 1823. It looks like A 18(another letter) 23 F. All handstitched.1823) Linen appears to be a cover for a buffet.With crocheted lace on just one side. Detailed hand work is amazing. About 15" in width and 42-43" in length( about 36 3/4"without the lace on each side) The linen feels soft. This came out of a box in the basement with an old sampler(I just listed)The sampler also has the A F name. But no date. I have not washed or ironed this. There are no torn or worn places, but there is some staining,which you can see in the picture. It appears to be mainly from storage. It comes from a smoke free home,however, I can detect this cloth has a hint of being in a box. I am hanging out in fresh air this week,before shipping.

Antique Paper Lace Trimmed Pin Box Inscribed Name c1820-40 As charming today as it was the day it was given. More than 200 years ago. This small paper box was beautifully decorated with paper lace and a small engraved picture of an angel holding a globe. It shows traces of yellow color on the lid(pictures appear darker than the actual color) The box belonged to Susanna Curtis and her name was written on the bottom in black ink. It might have held sewing needles. Pins or perhaps a piece of lace. It was probably made sometime around 1820-1840 but I don't know where. The box measures about 2 1/4 inches x 3 1/4 inches and 3/4 inches high. Paper shows wear and there are some small pin or needle holes on the lid. Antique Victorian Pink Silk Pin Cushion Trimmed in Hand Tatted Lace
Offered is a handmade Victorian pin cushion from the turn of the century. It measures approx. 4" in diameter and is approx. 1" thick. This is a pillow-type pin cushion that is covered in pink silk on the top side and muslin on the bottom side. The silk has split due to age- please see photo. The lace was hand-tatted with cotton thread; although it is a delicate pattern. I only see one little tear in the lace on the muslin side(almost impossible to notice) The pink silk and lace have darkened with age but this only adds to the pin cushion's charm.
