My mother who passed away in 2010 after nearly 70 years in the antique business. Marie's perfumes were a special place in her collection of antiques and vintage items and are now offered for sale as part of her estate. No markings bottom except for a"50" Background Kate Greenaway: Catherine Greenaway(17 March 1846– 6 November 1901) Known as Kate Greenaway, was an English children's book illustrator and writer, who spent much of her childhood at Rolleston, Nottinghamshire.1] She studied at what is now the Royal College of Art in London, which at that time had a separate section for women, and ... morewas headed by Richard Burchett. Her first book, Under the Window(1879) a collection of simple, perfectly idyllic verses about children, was a bestseller. Greenaway's paintings were reproduced by chromoxylography. By which the colours were printed from hand-engraved wood blocks by the firm of Edmund Evans. Through the 1880s and 1890s, her only rivals in popularity in children's book illustration were Walter Crane and Randolph Caldecott. Kate Greenaway" children. Adorable antique pair of Kate Greenaway style English ceramic children figurines all dressed up in their Sunday best. Approx. 7"T. She is still wearing her metal spectacles. He has a spot for them but they are gone. Also he has a molded hole in his hand and may have held an umbrella at one time? Tiny traces of gold detailing. Handpainted faces and blond hair. As shown in the photos these have as made imperfections(mostly up inside the base firing separations on the boy with an inside base chip as well' the girl has a small firing separation to 1 side seam otherwise these antique cuties are in very good condition for age. Antique German Bisque Piano Baby Girl in Sunbonnet Cradling Doll Kate Greenaway
Detailed here for your bidding consideration is this lovely antique German bisque figurine of a pretty young girl cradling her treasured doll in her arms! Though not a piano baby in the traditional sense-those that were large enough and heavy enough to hold down piano scarves-this piece would be of interest to the collector of such. As more recently, collectors have come to refer a large number of bisque figural children as piano baby dolls. With her wide brimmed sunbonnet and apron, this sweet 6" child looks like she could have walked straight out of the pages of a Kate Greenaway picture book! The figure is hand painted in delicate pastel shades. There are no chips, crack or repairs, but note the small firing lines here and there. Most notable is one on the edge of the base, seen in picture number 4 and 5, from the side and the bottom, ... morerespectively. As well, there is a firing separation where the doll's body meets the girl's chest, visible in picture number 2, and a little black spot on the front edge of the brim of her hat. Though not a piano baby in the traditional sense-those that were large enough and heavy enough to hold down piano scarves-this piece would be of interest to the collector of such. More recently. Collectors have come to refer to a large number of bisque figural children as piano baby dolls. Standing 7" tall, this little girl is a picture of innocence in her Sunday best dress of blue and wide brimmed hat. With her dolly held close to her heart, she has all the charm of a Kate Greenaway illustration! There are no chips, crack or repairs, but note the small firing lines along the molded seam of her left arm, as shown. There is a little imperfection in the bisque showing up as a black speck between ... moreher eyes-a birthmark, I presume.
