It has six hand ... morepainted top notch Watteau style scenes on it as well as some relief design to the paste. Four scenes are on the sides of the piece and are larger- all include a couple in a landscape surrounding and the last two scenes are smaller- one at the top and one at the bottom. The top one is of a lady with a sheep and the bottom one of a lady with a fan(I think) The scenes are of superb quality! Nice raised design to the paste around the scenes and nice metal mounts- not sure if they are silver that has tarnished a bit. A gold wash or a low grade gold. Not clue on that stuff but certainly not something cheap! The box is in amazing condition- no problems at all except for a few tiny firing specs from the making and normal on the early pieces. The etui is not marked which is the norm! It is about 4 inches tall and 0.75 inches in diameter. GERMAN PORCELAIN MEISSEN / DRESDEN STYLE MONKEY BAND ‘CONDUCTOR’ No 693 c 1880
This‘Monkey Band’ figurine is one of a set of four that I am listing in four separate listings this week. They represent models 693. 694, 695 and 696 in this set. This one bears the underglaze incised number‘693’ on the base. I am listing each one separately in order to give collectors the opportunity to fill in any‘gaps’ in their collection of these figures. But, in each case, I have provided one photo showing all four of these lively musicians so that they can be seen together. The four comprise a flautist, a violinist, a trumpeter and a conductor, all made of heavy hard paste porcelain. The original‘Monkey Bands’ were reputedly first produced by the great Meissen factory about 1753-5 and were the result of a commission given to Meissen’s greatest figure modeller. Johann Kaendler who created a 22 piece‘orchestra’ of these wonderful figures, ... moreeach distinguished with marvellous individuality and wittiness in concept. They were immensely popular and much copied by other porcelain factories right through the 19th Century. I have been informed by a kind fellow eBayer(4/2/13) that these figures are from a Kronach factory in Upper Franconia. Germany, belonging to R& E Pech. I have confirmed that the mark appears on page 273 of Ludwig Danckert's invaluable'Directory of European Porcelain' The date is correct. This one is the‘Conductor’ He is extremely well modelled and painted in fine detail. He is conducting with visible enthusiasm! He carries an underglaze‘blue scissors’ mark. I am much indebted. As always, to Mr Geoffery Godden’s superb“Guide to European Porcelain”1993. On page 98 of that book he illustrates the‘scissors’ mark and reveals that it“occurs on late nineteenth century Dresden-type porcelains such as the Monkey Band’which are almost certainly of German origin” The conductor is beautifully painted in rich enamels. This delightful antique large Dresden porcelain dog stands 14” long. 9” tall and 5” at its widest point. It is ca 1875 and is stamped in blue( Dresden Germany” stamp used 1881) and incised with 5575N. It is in excellent condition! The charming dog features lots of wispy. Curly fur and variegated gray spots. Its eyes are greenish yellow and are lined in dark red. The nose and mouth are painted red surrounded with indications of whisker pits. PORCELAIN CHERUB / ANGEL WITH ROSES - CANDLEHOLDER ? MEISSEN / GERMAN
You are viewing an antique porcelain piece. Either a candlestick or possibly the base of an oil lamp which holds the font. The top is open(there is tissue stuffed inside) but it obviously had something there at one time or another. I have used a glass candle insert in the past in this area. The piece, I am told, is marked with a Meissen mark(see photos) The numbers"17-316" also appear on the bottom of the piece. It is a heavy, well-made piece, and measures about 11" tall. The modeling of the piece is exquisite. I note a small chip on the rose at top on the front of the piece(by angel's head) and a missing rose or leaf on the back side bottom area. It is, as many know, hard to note all small flaking on porcelain roses, etc. However, any loss to the applied roses and leaves on this one is fairly minor in my opinion. Rare smaller Meissen Porcelain Figure.M 104 91"Love Bound" A LOVELY MEISSEN CUPID PUTTO TIED UP. This"Love Bound" German figurine depicting the god Cupid dates from the 19TH CENTURY. Cupid is the god of desire. Erotic love, attraction, and affection. As you can see by viewing the pictures. Our poor little putto sits on a on circular grassy pedestal. The perimeter of Cupid's pedestal is painted in beautiful hues of blues and pinks and accented with gold draping and a sea shell design. This little angel and mighty cherub is sans clothing with only a pink/mauve cloth covering him. His hands and small purple and white angel's wings are tied behind his back. His facial expression show discomfort at being put into such a helpless position. His hair is wavy and detailed. They don't make porcelain figures and figurines ... morelike this any more! Very good condition- no cracks. One of the cherub's hand shows signs of previous repair. The top of one of his feet is chipped as is common for these 19th century Meissen antiques. This very well detailed figurine of a Greek Mythological writer is holeing a pen in one hand and a putti cherub in the other. It has makrks that I am uaware of possible Dresden or Meissen era. It is mainly white with gold robes. It has a Greek key deign around the base. The figurine measures 9 1/4 inches high. The tip of the pen is missing. Other then that it's in great shape. Extraordinary. Meissen Ludwigsburg Large Figurine. Approximately 14" tall, 15" long, 9" wide. Heavy, solid hard paste porcelain. This piece was at the Antiques Roadshow when it was in Jacksonville fl, June 8, 2013. I own many Ludwigsburgs, Frankenthal, Meissen, KPM, Hochst, Volkstedt, Sitzendorf and other top makers of 18th, 19th century porcelain figurines. This is the best quality, detail, condition, I have ever seen on a piece near this old. Real Ludwigsburg pieces of this size and quality are rare since the factory opened in 1750's and closed 1821. The Ludwigsburg factory is considered the best mid 1700's producer of fine porcelain figurines. Pictures do not do this justice. It dates to about 1760. I have had it for years as my living room center piece. A beautiful scene, two Dryad's or Wood Nymphs, a statue ... moreof a slave nymph girl, beautiful hand painted scene on front of an urn, which is on a pedestal, flowers, rocks, bird and more. Slight wear on the gilding at the base. May have a nip pedal on a flower or two, but I don't think so, they have no rough edges and it looks like its made that way. Nothing else seen. This is a magnificent large porcelain carriage created by the Sitzendorf factory of Germany! It is a stunning piece at 20 inches in length by 11 inches in height and very heavy weighted! Overall condition is excellent/very good considering the size and age of the piece. The crown on the front base has broken off and the reins need to be retied to the driver. Should be very easy as they are flexible. One piece of the pink feather in front of one horse's plume and a few tiny nibbles to the leaves on the base. All very minor in my opinion on display. Beautiful set of Dresden figurines made in Germany I believe by Meissen. A man and lady seated. He plays the flute while she holds the music book. The man seems to be in perfect condition the woman has a broken right thumb and fingers and ruffles on her dress. These are fairly rare.I myself have seen them only once on Ebay in a live auction. I have had them for over twenty years. They would be perfect for a music room. Any Victorian setting or that special person in your life collecting Meissen porcelain figurines. But this is definitely a Meissen piece, and I believe an early one. She is approximately 6 1/2 inches high and displays beautiful. The only flaws I can see are I think both hands have had professional restoration, possibly down the arm on the one in the air. The other looks like only a few fingers. Very well done restoration if so. I see a tiny chip on the underside of her lavender cape in the back, barely noticeable. Prince Louis Charles de Bourbon and Princess Marie Zephirine de Bourbon, both with applied flower corsages, on matching gilt-edged scroll-work bases. NOTES: Prince Louis Charles de Bourbon(1751-1761) and Marie Zephirine de Bourbon(1750-1755) were the eldest children of Louis. Dauphin of France(1729-1765) and his wife, Maria Josepha of Saxony(1731-1767) and the grandchildren of Augustus III, Elector of Saxony and King of Poland(1696-1763) After being in storage for decades. It's time these beautiful busts come out and grace the home of someone who will display and enjoy them. I purchased these at a very reputable, high end antique shop many, many years ago. These are very special ... moreand I think. After you look them over, you'll agree. This pair of busts measure approx 5" high x approx 4" wide at the widest point. The beautiful. Elegant bases are approx 2" in diameter and are solid. Not hollow. Each is stamped in gold"Germany" and an Asterisk inside a gold circle. There are numbers hand written on the bottom of each. A gold gilt anchor is stamped on the back of each one. The Princess with the ruffled hat has flawless ruffles on the hat and blouse.Lovely pale blue and lavender attire contain hand painted details. The hat ribbon. Tied neatly under her chin, has just the smallest nick on the end of one ribbon. The corsage of 4 delicate blossoms has small nicks, totally consistent with the age of the figure. It's obviously all hand painted with exquisitely detailed flowers and gold leafing. The facial features are absolutely stunning and it's hard not to stare into her eyes. The Prince is dressed in a royal purple and white Victorian gown with an elaborate gold leafed bodice and deep ruffles. Meissen Antique Apple Harvest Tree Group Figurine Fine German Porcelain Rare OLD
Beautiful Apple Harvest Meissen group figurine. Marked with the blue crossed swords on the bottom. Also the painted#16 and incised# 1998. Some repairs on this piece. The goblet is repaired or is a replacement item. In the front boys hand. The lower portion of his leg also shows being repaired under close magnification. There are multiple leaf nicks including on the apples in the boys hat at the bottom area. There are numerous repairs and re-painting to the leaves in the tree. They look professionally done in my opinion. Not obviously repaired unless you inspect with close magnification. No major structural repairs. Nobody has lost a head. All fingers and toes look good, no issues with the base, trunk or ladder. I have looked at this under a black light and do not detect anything other than what I have mentioned above. Rare Meissen Dresden German porcelain centerpiece victorian cherub compote
Up for grabs is a late 1800's German Porcelain 2 piece compote centerpiece crafted in beautiful Meissen style. Gorgeous Angel with 2 small vases on either side of it and holding up a large compote bowl that is detachable. Colors are still very bright and detail in artwork is stunning! The compote bowl pedestal has been repaired and does not sit quite level in the hole that it goes in but it is beautiful none the less! There are several chips on several of the flowers and one crack repair on top of compote bowl. See pic for that. It is not seen from the front if you set the compote bowl in with crack facing wall. This is in very good condition for the age of it and is a Rare find for Dresden collectors! No mark on bottom of this piece but you can tell by the way it is made that it is an early Dresden.
