They also have gilt decoration around the floral decoration and in a wave pattern at the bottom of the lenses. The porcelain enamel is very fine with no chipping or cracks. The top and bottom of the eyepieces and the turn lever are made from antique bone ( bovine pre 1890). In the photos you can see that in a number of places as if typical of antique bone there is some light cracking - commensurate with age. These lovely od binoculars were very prized for their beauty and their magnification ability. Very few have survived and they are a very rare item. They were owned by the wealthy aristocracy and a prized posession of theater goers.

Jacob Petit French Chinoiserie Porcelain Jewelry Tray C. 1830(Please scroll down to read about the wonderful Chinese symbols used in this piece! Rich polychrome decoration with gold accents; exuberant pairing of pink and apple green. Celadon and amaranth- Petit was a master colorist who worked as a painter at the prestigious Sevres factory before opening his own porcelain factoy. A beautiful and quite intricate cut-work border made to look like carved(faux) ivory in the Chinoiserie style. I have read that Petit loved the challenge of technically difficult cut-work such as this coupled with deep bas relief carvings. Exuberant gold scroll work and beading. A fleur-painted tray to hold jewelry or other small treasures. With holes in the dragon's back for brooches or necklaces. And a scallop shell to hold a pocket watch so that the dragon's ... morebody will beautifully"frame" the clock; the dragon's mouth is open to hold that most special gem. A ring perhaps. Over 100 lovely hand-painted flowers. And once again. That wonderful trim. Let's look at it from a"new" perspective: Aha! When we look at it this way. We can see the carvings are ram's heads- that is pretty neat; rams are a traditional Chinese symbol for good fortune, luck and prosperity. The Chinese used to put ram's heads on roof tiles to render the dwelling lucky. The ram's head in Chinese art is often reduced to a simple geometric form so that it almost goes unnoticed by the unknowing eye. And indeed I almost missed these little fellows. Thus the lucky rams on the rim of this piece assist the fierce dragon in providing protection to the owner's jewelry. The dragon is a central symbol in Chinese art. Embodying the protection of the all-powerful forces of nature. An impressive, toothy fellow, the dragon will fiercely guard your treasures. The factory was opened in Paris in 1773 by Jean-Baptiste Locre and was one of the original factories competing with Sevres; it was taken over in 1829 by the renowned porcelain decorator Eugene Marx Clauss who had worked for Locre. Rare HUGE Antique Sevres Vion Baury French Paris Porcelain Man Figurine Figure
This is a beautiful rare large hand painted porcelain figure created in France circa 1870-90. He is very heavy weighted and a large size at 19 1/4 inches high by 7 inches wide. And weighs a whopping 11.12 lbs. The green anchor mark of the Vion& Baury factory has worn away, but is partially found on his lady mate listed in my separate listing. His face is very finely handpainted and he is walking in the meadow holding a baby goat as the momma goat looks up lovingly. This figure displays very well however the momma goat has one broken ear and the bottom of his scruff and the baby goat has one broken ear. There is a shallow chip on the back bottom base and the pink flowers are chipped on top. There is a tight hairline on the back of the figure near the bottom and also under the base. It is very tight and the figure feels very solid. Superb ... morefigure for the collector! Edme Samson et Cie firm is well known for their copies of the famous Meissen. Sevres, Chelsea, and Derby porcelains, but has claimed that all reproductions the firm produced would be distinctly marked to avoid confusion with the originals. Ironically this figurine is wrongfully attributed and authorship belongs not to the famous Italian sculptor Antonio Canova(1757-1822) But to French- Charles-Gabriel Sauvage called Lemire(1741-1827) and was created by Lemire around 1795, as a part of a large clock case that was never completed. Original in bronze was lost soon after the French Revolution and in 19th century Lemire's reading infant sculpture was only known by the white bisque copies. Produced by Dihl et Guerhard Manufactory. From the year 1781 to 1802 the manufactory commissioned many models of unsigned bisque porcelain and because most parian wares mimicked carved marble sculptures. This is a very fine Samson bowl that is about 10 inches long and about 4 inches tall very fine details and a very fine French copy of a German Meissen item. Very fine details with the mold work and grapes and the gold gilt and the hand painted areas. Well marked on the bottom with the Samson mark crossed cuffed swords. ANTIQUE MADONNA& CHILD FIGURE Description: This week I am listing a Belgian Andenne or French Old Paris bisque porcelain figurine of Mary and baby Jesus. From the late 19th century. The Madonna figure has been very well modelled and decorated with her robes painted in pale colours, standing on a raised, glazed and gilded stand. Especially her hands are very delicate and quite amazingly they aren't broken or chipped. The bottom rim is again unglazed and painted in a dark blue. On the bottom is a painted number 8 mark. The company name noted on the bottom of the pieces is"Porcelaine de Paris" and then has a cross arrow image. The painting and glaze on each of the pieces still looks good. Very little crazing going on. The colors and detailing are very eye catching. I see no cracks. Chips, or repairs to report to you. Some minor paint loss along some edges, probably from polishing over the years. The hands and ... morefingers are all intact too. Not sure if any of the pieces actually held something in their hands at some point or not. Kind of posed that way, but I see no markings on the inside of the hands that would indicate that something was affixed there at any point in the past. The one piece standing with his arms crossed is a rendering of Napoleon with the years of his birth and death noted on the tombstone that his cape is draped over. The other 3 pieces have a round base and are probably renderings of soldiers in Napoleon's army. The Napoleon piece has a square base. The others have a round base. Found a Napoleon online from this company with an elevated base and the tombstone that went for $399 by itself. The porcelain figures are 8.25" to 8.75" tall. Antique French VION BAURY Bisque Porcelain Victorian Lady Paris Figurine Sevres
This is an early French bisque statue of a beautiful woman in the garden with a swallow. It was created by the Vion& Baury factory of France circa 1860-70. She is a large and heavy weighted piece at 21 inches to the top of her extended arm. The detailing is exquisite and she has a beautiful realistically painted face. She displays very well however has suffered a broken finger. The swallow was repaired and I think part of that finger on the hand holding the swallow. I also believe there were three birds at one time on her dress that are now missing. The tiara in her hair has some wear. RARE Antique Charles Levy & Co. Paris Porcelain Statue 1876-1881 French
This is an esquisite and rare antique Charles Levy& Co. porcelain statue circa 1876-1881. Charles Levy& Co. was a maker of Parisian porcelain in Charenton-le-Pont. Paris France. The factory was only in operation from the years of 1876-1881, making this an exceptionally rare piece of fine French Porcelain. The figure is dressed in victorian style. The overall colors of the piece are blues and creamy porcelain white with gold accents. Delicate porcelain flowers adorn the front of the base and are held in her hand. The basket she carries has a subtle weaving texture. Her sweet features are softly highlighted. Giving her face an almost angelic glow. The statue stands approximately 14" in height. The base measures approximtely 5" Wonderful antique condition. There are no cracks and no repairs. There are some minor chips to the ... morefeet of the base and the pinky finger of one hand is missing. There is also some staining to the bottom of the basket that she carries. However, it took me some time to notice it as you have to turn the statutue upside down to see it. I have taken many detailed photos, so please examine for condition. A very pretty antique figurine by Sampson& Co of Paris. France. The figuring is beautifully modeled and depicts a young lady. The figurine is hand painted with excellent attention to details. The underglaze blue mark represents Samson& Co and dates from the 1800s. The lady stands 7" high. She is in good overall condition with all of her fingers present, whatever she was holding was made separately because there is no break in the glaze on the inside of her palm. There are many deep clay shrink lines all around her skirt including the perimeter of the purple skirt, white skirt and the base by her feet, see photos.
