Tang Dynasty, 8th or 9th Century A.D. Possibly a Ming Dynasty or 18th or 19th Century Qing Dynasty Revival Imitative. SIZE/MEASUREMENTS: Height: 145 millimeters(5 3/4 inches) Breadth: 79 millimeters(3 1/8 inches) Thickness: 80 millimeters(3 1/4 inches) CONDITION: Very good. No repairs but the majority of glaze is gone. A little wear and a few blemishes consistent with any decorative item which was buried for over one thousand years. A very thick alkaline soil deposition layer. Not flawless, but certainly in a better than average state of preservation– and unrepaired! Stands on its own. DETAIL: A nicely preserved clay statuette so wonderfully characteristic of Tang Dynasty statuary. Sancai. Or three-color glazes principally in yellow, green and brown was a development of the Tang Dynasty(618-907 AD) Sancai(three-colored" wares were first made for burial, using lead-based glazes that produced mottled and streaky effects in green, amber-brown, and cream, with an occasional addition of blue or black. The production of such exquisite porcelain items required multiple firings of fine white clay at temperatures near 1000c(1800f) degrees. Production of sancai pottery figurines dominated the pottery scene, and their production continued well into the Ming era which advanced the art with more intense colors and finer porcelain clay. SIZE/MEASUREMENTS: Height: 278 millimeters(11 1/8 inches) Length: 232 millimeters(9 1/3 inches) Breadth: 99 millimeters(4 inches) Base: 150 x 74 millimeters(6 inches x 3 inches) 12 millimeters(1/2 inch) in thickness. CONDITION: Very good. Minor porcelain chips. There are minor chips in the porcelain glaze at the rider’s right front shoulder; to the rider’s waist, behind, center; to the back side of the horse’s right leg; at the edge of the horse’s stomach, right side, center; and at the rider’s left elbow. There is as well a scattering of minute porcelain chips throughout, and the top of the horse’s right ear is also chipped. Other than cleaning, there has been no restoration work. The minor chips could be repaired, without additional cost, if you would like our conservator to repair the chips. There remains some mild soil adhesions, small areas where soil still adheres to the statuette, despite our best efforts to clean away all soil adhesions. Of course the paint has decomposed and is powdery in those areas where the statuette was merely painted(not glazed) the rider’s head, boot, and hands. Far East Treasures Collection 2001 Geisha Doll Fine Porcelain Figure in Kimono
For sale is a STUNNING Fine Porcelain Geisha Girl doll in a Kimono. This is a very high end doll. Equisetly dressed in silks, fine porcelain, and I believe it is real hair but couldnt say for sure. She stands 12" high and is in excellent condition with no damage, just a couple of dirt spots on bottom that will come out. This is a pretty amazing doll for sure. Tag reads, Certificate of Authenticity, Far East Treasures Collection, TM, This fine porcelain doll is an original artistic collection designed especially for the most serious collector. The businessman Carl Schneider(who had worked at the Wallendorf factory for some time) together with modelling artist Karl Unger and businessman Hermann Hutschenreuther founded their business in 1859. As Hutschenreuther was a sleeping partner. His name does not appear in the company name until 1885. At first the company only produced tableware. I don't know what his arm is meant to be resting on-I presume a rifle but as nothing is damaged there it must have been a separate non porcelain piece. One of 4 of the finest quality early German porcelain Military figures I have seen! This one is titled Friedland 1807 on the front and what LOOKS like Verry Dragon incised on the back. Marked with under glaze blue crossed swords on the back as shown but please note: I forgot to take a picture of this piece's specific mark so I have used the picture from the Austerlitz figure for the mark. All the marks are identical but I will be photographing the actual mark on this later this evening and trading it out. This figure measures 12 3/4" by 4 1/4" He is missing part of his Saber as shown. One of 4 of about the finest quality early German porcelain Military figures I have seen. This one it titled(I think) Fleuris 1794 on the front and Bisson? incised on the back. Marked with under glazed blue crossed sword mark as shown. This one looks to be in near perfect condition with the exception being what I suspect is a missing separately fired red plume to the hat similar to the one on the figure titled Valmy. Measures 11 1/2" by 3 3/4" and dates to the mid to late 19th Century. Outstanding quality!
