Zsolnay Pecs Hungary Fine Porcelain Art Deco Nude Lady Figurine Old Mark 10 1/3"
This is a very classy figurine produced by Zsolnay in Hungary. This lady has a beautiful design. Her colors and features are intricate and life like. This figurine is made of a very high quality porcelain material with a glossy finish. It was expertly hand painted down to the finest details. Zsolnay began operations in 1853. By the 1870's they had gained world recognition for their porcelain designs. They have continued in their success to this day. This piece is well marked. Zsolnay began using this style of marking in the early 1920's and used it up to the late 1960's. The mark on this particular figurine is unusual since it spells Zsolnay with an I on the end instead of a Y. I could not find another Zsolnay mark with this variation in the spelling. I believe this piece dates to the Art Deco Era based on it's style and the ... moreunusual mark which also includes rather primitive hand inscribed letters and numbers. There are two glaze misses in the back under each of the arms which are manufacturer defects. This is shown in the last picture. Estate Find. Up for auction is this Antique 12" Bisque Girl Figurine which is marked on bottom. Appears to be inscribed with the numbers 466 and a painted#10 on inside edge. Not sure if figurine is French or German as I didn't research it. Bisque is very heavy and has no cracks or hairlines. Only has a little roughness on bottom edge which could be a mold inperfection. Bisque has some stains throughout which I didn't try cleaning. I will leave that up to you. Gold trim on bottom of skirt has some fading. Amazing facial features and expression Approx 10" tall If you have ever visited Germany you have probably seen many of Franz Drexler's statues and ecclesiastical statues in many public historic places and churches. His staues are rarely on the market. Please read about F Drexler below. Historic notes about Munich and the Munich Child(Münchner Kindl) Collectors are familiar with the picture of a child. Dressed in a cowl, with radishes in one hand, a filled beer stein in the other, smiling devilishly from a stein decoration. The saying on the stein is usually Gruss aus München, or translated, Regards from Munich" But how many collectors know that this figure is really ... morea semi-comic take-off of the official Munich coat-of-arms? It is not known when the"Munich Child" Munchner Kindl) appeared in the coat-of-arms for the first time or who gave it the sympathetic name. Some representations of the fifteenth century already show the child figure instead of the monk. The metamorphosis was not brought about by some order of the sovereign. But instead by artists, by the seal and copper engravers, by the sculptors and painters who transformed the old bearded town-monk into a curly-haired child resembling the Christ child who appears with blessing hands on the altars at Christmas. It is a baby girl wearing an ornate yellow and blue lace gown with raised gold beading and pink ribbons on each shoulder. The girl is also holding a piece of fruit, a pear. She has a very detailed face with great color. The figurine is not marked, I believe it is French or German bisque porcelain, late 1800's. Hand painted in neutral tones with touches of gold and green and brighter tones of pastel pink accent the base. This item is numbered 3329 on the base with a faint 9 on the bottom. No other hallmarks can be seen and it appears this is probably an older Heubach mold. No breaks or repairs have been noticed. There is a minimal rubbing of gold paint accents over all of the piece. Colorful, antique Continental porcelain figure of a man dressed in 18th century clothing that I believe was made by Meissen or perhaps one of the Dresden Thuringia region porcelain factories. It has part of a blue under glaze mark on the edge of the base in the back that looks like the top of the Meissen crossed swords mark(see 2nd image) Meissen is known to have marked of their figures in this area. If not Meissen my next guess would be one of the other Dresden area factories, however, the weight and"feel" of the piece lends me to believe it is Meissen. If someone who recognizes this particular model would care to share what you know I would enjoy hearing from you. It measures roughly 9 3/4" tall x 3 1/4" in diameter across the base and weighs close to 1 1/2 pounds. The condition is good. He is missing the tips of his pointer and baby fingers on his right hand and there is also a shallow vertical surface chip on the side edge of the base which you can see in the 3rd image.
