Thanks for looking today! I'm in a bit of a quandry. As I can't figure out the maker of this piece. The lady I bought it from said it had belonged to her mother-in-law, and that she only had very fine things. It features a blond boy walking with his hat in the air, and a basket of flowers in one arm, while a goose honks up at him. The only marking is the L.E. 32 Italy on the bottom as shown in photo#2. It is a very large figure, at nearly 11" tall, and it has very fine craftsmanship. The length of the base is 7" I regret the chip on a green leaf as shown in photo#8, and also a chip an the front and bottom of the base. Those are the only faults I can find with this piece. The detail work is quite extraordinary, especially the blond textured hair. The flowers are quite lovely in the the Capodimonte style. You are bidding on a circa 1930's Goldscheider figure No. 6551 by designer Stephen Dakon. It is 15-1/2" tall by 8" wide by 4" deep. You can tell from the pictures that there are lots of flaking issues. But more than enough of the original glaze and paint remains if someone had the skills to return it to it's original color& design. Someone had restored the statue at the base, which had broken off at one point. Her right hand thumb is also missing. Also, someone had tried to paint part of the dress. And is 4 ¾ inches or 12 cm at its widest. The piece features two white cats standing on their hind legs leaning over the edge of the basket. The cats have a pink and blue bow tied around their necks. Found this Country Girl in old family basement wrapped in cloth with this unusual porcelain umbrella of incredibly fine detail(see photos) Probably should have sold them separately, found both tucked inside a box of 1950's magazines. According to the text on its bottom. This 9 1/2" high clay figurine was made by a Francesco Martinez in Guadalara(sic! Jalisco in 1892. Unfortunately, I couldn't find any information about him, even trying to contact people in Guadalajara and Jalisco, but judging by the quality of his work he must have been a master sculptor. The extremely detailed and accurate, absolutely life like depiction of the man's features, clothing and belongings are simply fascinating. But this artifact demands a special respect not just because of the quality of craftsmanship but because of the extraordinary achievement that despite of having been made of such a common, extremely fragile material it could survive such a long time, although damaged as it is with his right arm missing and its base chipped.
