SIZE/MEASUREMENTS: Height: 145 millimeters(5 3/4 inches) Breadth: 79 millimeters(3 1/8 inches) Thickness: 80 millimeters(3 1/4 inches) CONDITION: Very good. No repairs but the majority of glaze is gone. A little wear and a few blemishes consistent with any decorative item which was buried for over one thousand years. A very thick alkaline soil deposition layer. Not flawless, but certainly in a better than average state of preservation– and unrepaired! Stands on its own. The female is in thoughtful pose and wearing a flowing gown draped over one shoulder in Grecian style. Her face is particularly beautiful. The usual sloppy application of porcelain glaze which is characteristic of the era’s porcelain funerary pieces. The head was detached. And was reattached and restored by our conservator. There’s also a large chip at the cuff of the statuette’s left sleeve, ... moreand a tiny chip to the backside of the statuette near the left shoulder. A little wear consistent with any funerary item which is over five(perhaps close to six) centuries in age including the customary little blemishes expected of hand-produced porcelain statuettes. Not absolutely flawless, but certainly in a remarkable state of preservation. Porcelain glaze is almost entirely intact. DETAIL: A nicely preserved petite-sized sancai glazed statuette so wonderfully characteristic of Ming Dynasty artwork. Sancai. Or three-color glazes principally in yellow, green and brown was a development of the Tang Dynasty(618-907 AD) Sancai(three-colored" wares were first made for burial, using lead-based glazes that produced mottled and streaky effects in green, amber-brown, and cream, with an occasional addition of blue or black. The production of such exquisite porcelain items required multiple firings of fine white clay at temperatures near 1000c(1800f) degrees. Offered for your consideration is this 1920s art nouveau female modern dancer white satin glaze figurine planter attributed to Hobart for Weller Pottery by someone knowledgeable about these things(or at least he thinks he is knowledgeable) There are no markings so I won't say for sure but based on some on line research it does look like other pieces from Weller from the 1920s. If someone out there has some thoughts. Please email me! The figurine stands 8¼" tall and is a little over 5" at its widest. The oval base is 3¾" x 3" and the planter opening is a 3" x 1" crescent. There is roughness around the planter opening and staining inside the planter portion from use as. Well, as a planter. The underside of the base is badly stained(looks like rusty water) and some of that has crept up slightly on ... morethe outside bottom of the base. This decorative. Female Art Nouveau bust was made around 1900 by the German sculptor Fritz Kochendörfer(1871-1942) Painted ceramic. F. Kochendörfer" is printed on the back. The number"321" appears at the bottom of the base. The name"Schindler" also appears in the base. Condition: It was broken at some point and has been restored. There are several cracks at the top and back of the head and on the base. The damage was not easy to photograph. There are more cracks than appear in the photos. The face was not damaged. The cracks have been repaired and painted over and are not readily visible. The repairs are solid. And the figurine is not overly fragile. Otherwise. The bust shows age-related signs of wear. Up for auction with NO RESERVE is an Incredible Large figurine. It is all White a seated beautiful young nude maiden. She measures 12" tall and 13" long by 6" wide across the base. I don't know her age. But I do know she was brought to the U.S. by a young soldier after WWII. She has two hallmarks on her base. Please see pics. Dates about c1880s. The parian bare footed female figurine stands on a decorative base. She clutches and holds the cross around her neck. Flowers in her apron. To the base: the pair of recumbent sheep. Certainly a wondeful portrayal of the female figurine wearing the hooded cape. Parian. Intricate overall detailing. Mounted onto the square decorative base. It has an overall height of about 10.5inches. Max overall size of the hollow base of about 4.75 x 4.25inches.
