Blanc de Chine Nymphenburg Commedia dell'Arte Mezzetino Figurine Bustelli 1890s
For your consideration. A gorgeous blanc de chine porcelain figurine designed by Rococo master Franz Anton Bustelli for Nymphenburg, circa late 1800s to 1910 Germany. The figurine is Mezzetino, one of the 16 Commedia dell'Arte figurines originally designed by Bustelli for Nymphenburg in 1760. Nymphenburg figurines are some of the finest in the world and are still in production today(even a Mezzetino designed by Vivienne Westwood) The marks on this figurine date it prior to trade laws in the 1920s that required the country name be placed on any imported items to the US. The base of the figurine has the model number and Nymphenburg shield mark. The shield mark is also seen on the side of the figurine, see pictures 4 and 5. The figurine is in decent vintage condition with the only breakage being the end of Mezzetino's club, as seen in ... morepicture 3, which is common for this figurine especially given its age. RARE 19th century Nymphenburg statuette - Commedia dell'Arte!
This is an extremely rare pull from Bustelli's model for"Scaramuz" from the Commedia dell'Arte. Which he first created around 1760. This one is unpaintede but glazed(blanc de chine" and in excellent condition- no breaks, repairs, crazing, hairlines or other defects- only possibly a small, fingertip-sized indentation under the base at the edge, which probably occurred during manufacture but possibly later; it is so faint, I was not able to capture it in a photograph. This piece is 8 1/2" high-larger than the usual pulls of the series- why, I don't know. Pair of antique faience figurines - Commedia dell'Arte
Pair of figurines molded in Italian faience(glazed ware) Beautifully hand painted before glazing. Both are characters from the Commedia dell'Arte(Italian street comedy) The man- Il Capitano Spavento- seems to be copied after an illustration by Maurice Sand(an artist and costume designer, son of George Sand) and therefore would not be before mid-19th century. The female may also be copied after a drawing of the character"Coralline" from one of Sand's drawings, but the same female character exists elsewhere. They both stand on similar bases decorated with scrollwork and theater masks. Male, height- 8 3/4" Female, height- 8" Underneath both is painted in brown a sort of anchor with a cord. Harlequin figurine, fine porcelain, Ludwigsburg, Commedia dell'Arte, ca150 years
Porcelain statuette of Harlequin. The country bumpkin character from the Commedia dell'Arte(Italian Comedy) pulling the tail of a dog. On some statuettes, he is using the dog as a sort of musical instrument and pulling his tail to get yelps during his song. That might be the case here, but it's not that clear. Hand painted. Harlequin is wearing his characteristic shirt decorated with playing cards, which requires a certain amount of careful detail work on the part of the ceramic painter. The molding is extremely crisp with vivid carved details, and the dog's face is wonderful. Under the base(see photo) is the logo of the Ludwigsburg factory in Germany, stamped in blue underglaze. The piece was sold to me(by an expert! as 18th century, but I do believe it's 19th(certainly not later) especially since it's quite large- height- ... morejust under 8 inches, width- 4 inches, depth- 3 1/2 inches. The only damage I can spot is to the right paw, which is broken off.

Fine porcelain figurine of"Il Capitano" from Bustelli's Commedia dell'Arte series for Nymphenburg. Original model made ca. 1760. This pull is from the 20th century from the Nymphenburg factory in FRankenthal, Germany. Beautifull hand painted with gilding. Delicate painting of the face and lace collar. Mint condition- both the sword and the dagger are in perfect condition, which is rare. Height- 7 inches. Underside is recessed; in the middle is an oval ridge, in which is impressed: Nymphenburg shield- 272- 10.

This is a beautifully detailed hand painted porcelain figure which represents one of the Commedia dell'Arte characters. It is marked on the base"69" with the Nymphenburg shield mark. The figure measures approx. 6 7/8" tall and is in excellent condition with two exceptions- there is a small chip under her foot and her extended index finger is broken.
