The most senior is called the Kore society and focuses on the most esoteric knowledge of humankind's place in the universe and its relation to the God Faro. The Kore is further divided into several subgroups. Which are identified with animals and which recreate the characteristics of those animals as metaphors for the virtues and vices of humankind. This bull or antelope example has been embellished with metal tacks and intricate geometric patterns. Minor chips to the ear with wear consistent with traditional use. Appropriate for age, origin and medium. Note this Bamana mask was formerly in the comprehensive collection of Larry Hughes. Hughes purchased the artifact in late 1950's as he kept meticulous records for all his fine art acquisitions. He was an avid collector of African sculpture. This carving exemplifies Azande carving style with the elongated body and short legs. Her belly button and genetailia portrude, indicating her fertility. Her round and robust coiffure is also indicative of the hand of a talented Azande carver. Among the Azande(Zande) figures like this are known as Yanda, served to represent ancestral or protective spirits who looked over the members of an Azande cult known as Mani(This cult was also shared by close neighbors the Mangbetu) The Mani cult enrolled women and men and worked to assure health and to secure wealth and prosperity for the cult member. These charming figures takes their color from the magical application of roots. Plants, bark and seeds called Libele by the Azande. To see the process on YouTube just click HERE I have been using these products for over 20 years to remove scratches- stains- and even small chips from vases- drinking glasses- bowls- ... moredecanters- etc. All you need to add is water and patience. Below I show the removal of scratches from a watch. This is mineral glass just the same as ornamental and utility glass so the process is the same for all. I have 13 videos on YouTube just follow this This kit is for small projects. If you require a larger kit then please see my other listings. please note the contents of this kit are capable of doing everything that can be seen in all of my videos. Please follow this) As you can see. The watch above was covered in quite deep scratches. I initially reduced the scratches by hand using silicon carbide, supplied in the kit, this took the longest time(about 20 mins) I then polished the crystal using the powders in the kit in ascending order using the mops and my Dremel 300, this stage took about 15 mins. Obviously if polishing by hand, using the chamois supplied, this will take longer. The final result! This process can take considerable time. But for vintage glass, where it can be impossible to find replacements, it is well worth the effort. Other sellers will tell you that all you need is Cerium Oxide to polish away scratches in glass.
