It is tiny, pillow measures 2-1/2" X 1-3/4" Height is 2-1/4" tall. Condition: There are three flaws. A tiny chip on front corner of pillow(lower left) and a chip on the back of the blue pillow(Measures 1/4" There looks like another one on the dogs hip that is laying down-could be a factory flaw but I am not sure-never noiticed till now(see last three pictures) It is still a wonderful piece! Here is a perfectly wonderful old numbered and trade marked matching pair of Staffordshire Spaniels that date back to the late 1800's. The British royalty loved their Cavalier King Charles Spaniels and they became a revered subject for the porcelain pottery makers of 19th Century England. The pair came down with my Great-Grandparents to Bartow. Florida in 1910 and have been in the family since. I only say this because it probably makes them a"one owner" provenance. The mark on the base is that of"Old Staffordshire Ware England" And both pieces are numbered but only one still legibly. They appear to be numbered 43 and 17 and of course, the numbers are under the original glaze. In 1892 Parliament decreed that English pottery must say"England" on the bottom. Twenty years later the mark had to read"Made ... morein England" The Spaniels stand 5 1/2" high and the base is four inches long by 2 3/4" at the widest part. The pair is in absolutely perfect condition. With no cracking, chipping or crazing whatsoever. I photographed them in sunlight and with flash to try and bring out the lovely rose gold paint under the glaze. The locket and collar are probably 24 carat solid gold paint. I will want to send these insured for at least the value of the winning bid. If you would like. I can insure them for the appraised value of five hundred U.S.D. These dogs appear to me to be spaniels(feel free to send me your corrections! In either case. They feature black and white coloring, with yellow detail near their noses and gold detail on their collars. They each stand alert. One with head to the left and the other to the right. They would look great on either end of a mantle or a bookshelf! This lovely pair came to us with badly damaged eyes. They have been replaced with brown acrylic eyes that fit the pieces much better. Definitely from one of Finest Factories: Look at Detail on Face DESCRIPTION Antique Staffordshire Lion/dogs in wonderful condition except for a hairline flaw that is completely unnoticeable on one of the dogs front legs and a white mark on the red tongue of one dog. The line does not go around the leg. Only about 1/8th of it. It has been there since I purchased these lovely animals from England 25 years ago and has not increased in size. The white spot could be easily covered but I would never do that as these animals are in original condition and the value would go down. The colors are exceptionally bright. And they look wonderful on a mantel because of that. The glass eyes sparkle and are yellow with black ... morepupils that have no damage. I have always collected Staffordshire and these are among the most unusual pieces I have ever seen and the largest as well except for the height of the more common Staffordshire sitting Span el. The mouths are both very interesting. The animals have bright red tongues. Black eyebrows nose and whiskers with yellow around the mouth. Tails are outlined in black; face is white and there is white on the legs. Black hair like designs are scattered irregularly on the figures; paws are reddish brown. These large animals are 14.5" long and 11" tall. These are large and unusual pieces. I have never seen ones like them. When these lion dogs were made there were Staffordshire factories throughout England. They all differed in quality. What makes me believe that these figures were from one of the finest factories is how unusual they are. Dalmations are also seen quite frequently but these are truly unusual. Antique Staffordshire Pair of Large Afghan Hound Dogs w Child Figures Boy Girl
Selling a colorful pair of Staffordshire figures that date to the mid 19th century. A boy and girl stand next to oversized afghan hounds. With each hound seated on a grassy oblong base. Just as the boy is bigger than his sister, his afghan is bigger than hers. I believe these were made as a matched pair because the detailing on the children and dogs match in far too many ways to be a coincidence. Notice each child's clothing is trimmed in blue. Over each child's arm is a green scarf with russet-colored fringe. They are brother and sister with matching hair and eye color, and matching shoes. Each has a finely painted floral motif on their skirt in the same four colors: russet, blue, green, and purple. Finally, each has a yellow accent to their outfit; on the boy his neck scarf, on the girl her bonnet. The dogs have matching eyes, snouts, ... morecollars, and fur color, and their bases are decorated in the same green and brown foliage. The afghan with the boy measures 13 3/4" tall and the afghan with the girl measures 12" tall. These figures are documented on p. 143(figures 2221/2222) in A.N. Harding's book,Victorian Staffordshire Figures 1835-1875' Book 2. Both figures are in excellent condition. With no chips, hairlines, repairs, or restoration. Both have had some small touch ups to a few minor flakes in their enamel, mostly in the areas that are black or russet in color. I am pleased to be offering for sale. This handsome pair of antique Staffordshire spaniel dogs by William Kent, Ltd. These dogs, which stand approximately 8.5" tall, are reddish brown and adorned with golden(painted) chains/locks. As you can see, both are marked on the bottom- the mark reads: Staffordshireware above a knot with the letters W& K in the loops and England below that. A Google search revealed that that mark was used by William Kent Ltd. from 1894-1944. I would say that the dogs are in very nice condition for their age, with strong paint colors(including the gold) no cracks/crazing, though they would benefit from a thorough cleaning. Antique Pair of Victorian Staffordshire Pottery Spaniel Wally Dogs
On offer are a delightful matched pair of Victorian era Staffordshire Pottery Spaniel'Wally Dogs' Popular in the late 19th and early 20th century as fireside figures. Matching figures are generally in good condition for their age. One shows slightly more deterioration with a faded muzzle. And three small glazing chips as shown in the photos on the nose, and ear. Minor crazing as is typical with Staffordshire and the gilt highlighting which would have been added as a detail to the classic chain and lock on each dog has largely disappeared(although still visible here and there) Both are still full of character. Underlying the fact that for good reason, these lovable canines are as popular today as they were 100+ years ago. No evidence of any restoration whatsoever. Measure approx. 10" 25 cm in height x 7" 18 cm in width. Antique Pair Staffordshire Spotted Dogs
Great pair estate find Staffordshire dogs. No chips and in great condition. Not sure age on these two. approximately 9" inch tall. Please check detailed photo's. I did noticed there is a void of space between the front legs to body, not a solid connection( see photo with dog in my hand showing light pass through void) Just bringing it up to help pin point their age. No marking on bottom. May be alittle dusty a bit nervous cleaning them up didn't want to disturb finish. There is a crackle pattern through out both dogs.
