2 Antique Large Metal Barn Door Strap Hinges 27" long
Up for auction is a pair of large authentic vintage barn door hinges. They are heavy duty off set strap style with a decorative heart or acorn at one end. These hinges were purchased approximately 35 years ago in Oregon City. Oregon From a developer who had purchased what was then rural farm land. The old barns and buildings had been taken down and he was selling items recovered before deconstruction. I don't know exactly how old these are but I can tell you that the buildings had been there decades before they were taken down in the early 1980's. They have been sand blasted. Primed, and painted flat black with high quality enamel. They work superbly and are ready to be installed. The burrs around the hinge area were left for character. The strap is 24" long and with the hinge approximately 27 and 1/4" in total length and ... moreeach hinge weighs 4.7 pounds. Straps are 19" inches long. 1 1/2" inch wide at the widest area and the round tips are 1 1/4" across. Matching hinges are 9" inches long and 1 1/2" inch wide with a 1 1/2" long bolt that slides into the female end of straps. Straps and hinges are a 1/4 of an inch thick of forged iron. Old Wood Barn Farmhouse Cupboard Door Vintage Plus Part of Antique Hinges
This is a neat old barn door that could be reused on a cupboard or any project. It is 54" tall by 21 1/2" wide by 1" deep. The paint is flaking off and looks like it would be easy to strip the rest of it off. The hinges are 3 1/4" long by 1 1/2" wide. This doesn't include the part sticking up- just the part attached to the wood. I only have that part- I do not have the part that was attached to the wall. It also looks like it could be cleaned up nicely to show off the design. The latch is missing the slider piece. Antique Metal Iron Farm Barn Gate Shed Garage Large Door Hinges European Unique
I salvaged these from a hotel(Rasthaus) I worked at in Germany. It was a hotel that the US military"confiscated" from Hitler after the war. For more on the History of this resort/hotel. Google afrc chiemsee. These hinges were used on the the revieving double doors in the back where trucks would deliver to the hotel. They decided to put in a rolling door and I snagged these before their journey to the dumpster. I shipped them home in my bag on the 1 year anniversary of the 911 terrorist attacks(flights were the cheapest in history on that day) Naturally. Airport security searched my bag because of the tremendous weight. They simply could not comprehend why someone would smuggle hinges into the US. Alas, I got them home and they have been one of the coolest things I own for more than a decade. But now I have children and bills and ... morelittle use for these beautiful hinges. They are in great working condition and are extremely solid. There is some rust around a few of the stationary pins(part that fastens to the door frame) where it screws to the jamb. It is minimal and doesnt seem to threaten the integrity or strength of the hinges. Also. The flat portion of this pin piece that attaches flush to jamb is slightly bowed(curved) I tried to capture this in a photo, but could not. I believe this occured from overtightening and, again, does not seem to effect the integrity or strength of the hinges. Paint is decent but peeling in places and has some old paint/varnish over parts. It will be easy to refirb or leave for the rustic shabby chic look. They are used but good working condition.
