2 VINTAGE CAST IRON AP SLIDING BARN DOOR LATCH ~ GATE GARAGE SHED FARM LOCK TOOL
Offered are two identical cast iron sliding door latches. These are marked AP. I've seen identical latches marked"AP. ALLIGATOR. Perhaps they made these for applications where reptile references were unwelcome. These are a spring action latch and were used on many kinds of sliding doors and gates. Additionally they could be padlocked, and could be opened from either side of a wall with a handy pull chain. I'm not sure of the exact age of these, but they are positively old. The latches are about 7 inches long and 3-3/4 inches across in the latched position. They each weigh a bit over a pound. They are cast iron with steel springs and pins. The flat chain is copper. I can't see any signs of use or wear. But they may have been gently used. There are no cracks, breaks or bends anywhere. The springs are strong and the latch action ... moreis firm and positive. There are remnants of old black paint. I'm not sure these had much of a paint coat when new. There is minor corrosion, mainly on the backs. They are clean and perfectly operational. 2 Vintage Antique Barn Door Rustic Iron Bolt Sliding Latch/ Lock* Pat. 1892. This is a'Rare' pair of vintage sliding bolt latches. By lifting the center the bolt could be slid either way to secure a barn door from opening. Releasing the center the bolt would return to its down position. These could be used on either left or right hinged doors. There would have been a'U' shaped guide for the bolts to slide into to lock but are missing. Here I have a vintage used primitive black painted thumb push door handle latch hardware set in nice condition. The handle is 10" long with screw holes that are 7 3/4" apart. The thumb push part is 6 3/4" long with the push being 1 3/8" wide. The catch latch piece is 3 1/4" long with screw holes 2 1/2" apart.
