The piece is in amazing condition, with very ... morelittle sign of wear at all. There are a few small areas on the ornately carved back where there have been some small repairs to the ornately carved areas. There are a few light surface scratches to the finish from general use, but it has been very well cared for, and is in amazing condition. I am unsure of the exact age or manufacture of the piece. It most likely dates to the middle to last part of the 19th Century. It does have some cracking in the front writing surface of the desk, but these areas are superficial thus far. The desk is made of what I believe is mahogany, and has ornately carved accecents on the vitrine shelf supports which are done in reverse scrolls.

It appears to have been repaired at some point. top can be opened with a small screwdriver inserted and sliding sideways from left to right. The second side opens easily with a fingernail. Revealing a second wood panel. This second panel is removable by pulling up the small side wall that houses the inkwell. This action releases the wood panel below& within there are two secret compartment drawers. These hidden drawers are seen in photos. One brass inlay is missing at one bottom corner. No key. This roll-cylinder secretary features a wonderful ... moreheavy carved crest, and dates from the 1880's. It comes with three original shelves that are adjustable behind the wavy glass doors. It has burl walnut panels coming down both sides, heavy crown molded top and a crest with big ball finials on each end. It has a commode base with three drawers and a door. The only thing I don’t like about this cylinder desk is that the finish is light, similar to a cherry, but it is walnut wood. It has the original heavy bold brass hardware, and is in really nice shape. The pull-out writing surface has green felt on it. When you open the double panel cylinder roll, it reveals a simplistic double drawer interior that is simplistic.

The desk was refinished in the last 10 years or so and whoever it was did a wonderful job. The desk has dainty carved cabriole legs with brass fillagree on the elbows and castors. The drawers are all dove tail with brass ribbed knobs. The doors have locks, but there is no key. The desk is in wonderful condition apart from two small cracks on the solid oak top that has nothing to do with structure and you wouldn’t want to touch it. We purchased a small lot of refinished antiques from an adorable couple, and this antique library table was one of the pieces. This beautiful table features an ogee bevel edge, round corner top, and is all tiger sawn oak with a large dove tail drawer in the front. It has cabriole legs that come down into a bottom shelf support and terminate in a detail toenail claw foot. The desk is 38 inches wide, 26 inches deep and 29.75 inches high. The bottom shelf is 9 inches high. The size of the large drawer is 31 inches wide and 3.5 inches deep.

This spectacular complete office opens to reveal an interior with birdseye or curly maple including cubbyholes or mailboxes in the doors and twelve small drawers below. The drop front leather writing surface has an adjustable angle. Inside are drawers and compartments of various sizes. Above is a lift lid covering more slots for documents. Solid walnut with raised burl panels and deep moldings, the finish is in very fine condition with small irregularities typical of intricate burl. It has been polished and waxed so only an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth is needed to maintain the warm antique patina. Embossed bronze hardware is original and complete. Circa 1850. The table features a stunning rich oak colour. The tabletop features a lovely oak thumb moulded edge with bull nose corners which surrounds professional fitted new three-piece green. Gilt& blind tool leather. Below. There are three working moulded drawers to each side of the table. On one side. There is a large compartmentalized central drawer. All drawers feature working locks and keys and the original brass key escutcheons. The drawers are hand dovetailed and constructed with oak(a sign of good quality) Below the drawers sits a lovely moulded lip edge. The table sits on four lovely baluster shaped oak legs. The legs feature the original brass castor tip collars and original brass castors. This type of table was designed to stand in the centre of a room so that the three working drawers each side was accessible. This Auction is for an Antique 19th Century Approximately 1870's Victorian Walnut Kneehole Writing Table Desk- Nice Size Perfect For A Unique Functional Computer Desk. It measures 31 1/4" tall by 43" wide by 28" deep- it has five drawers with what appears to be its original turned wood handles- it has hand dovetailed drawers and is square nailed- the finish is either original or an old refinish- the leather top I believe is an old replacement- this is a chunky solid very well made piece of furniture- it has some minor use wear on the finish. Two of the drawer locks are missing, and the back corner brace came loose and needs to be reglued- other than those flaws it is in very good condition.

We ... moreare always intrigued with these and they are always found in the old dark Civil War era finish which is kind of grungy and doesn’t show the walnut right. So. We brought it into the restoration shop to hand strip(which takes a long time, but is well worth it to leave the patina or original color in the wood) hand sand meticulously throughout, stain the same factory color and applied multiple coats of hand rubbed lacquer until it builds up a beautiful semi glow lustrous finish such as this. It has the original glass, original triple adjustable shelves, we had to replace some of the center slats and the crest is original. Everything on this desk is original except for the exterior finish and the felt that we replaced. The cabinet dates from the 1860s era. We are fortunate enough to get one or two of these every year, but we scour the entire United States to obtain the rare and hard to find items such as this. This desk has gothic block pyramid columns down on the base with spoon carving on the incise carved and picture frame panel doors that open for a large space that probably had a shelf previous. It is an English antique that was originally made around 1890 featuring barley twist legs and stretcher. It is hard to believe all of the wonderful carved features in this writing desk. Each of the four sides is meticulously carved to great detail. These carvings are the most prominent feature of ... morethe desk. The next thing your eye is drawn to are the barley twist turned legs and stretcher. Using a stretcher between the legs allows the heavy desk to remain sturdy even after all these years. The table top is finished with a nice black leather that has gold tooling. This leather is not the original desk leather. The front of the desk has two drawers that work easily. Their handles are part of the carvings on the drawer fronts. The fully finished and carved back has two faux drawers so it looks just like the front. This antique writing desk is really in excellent condition. It is sturdy and strong and we did not find any repairs or breaks on the carvings. The black leather is near perfect. The table top around the edges shows some old minor signs of wear(tiny dents here and there as you would expect to see) Otherwise this desk has stood the test of time remarkably well and would go great in a variety of surroundings. Original late 19th century(gorgeous from every angle) woman's carved wood desk. The original brass pulls are well intact. The drawer pulls with ease and it has a lock with no original key. The finish wood at the top and sides of the desk is a fine tight burl veneer(probably over carved walnut) The desk top has an original tapestry which has a multitude of chrysanthemums and/or peonies and as can be seen, there are holes, pulls and wear into the tapestry. The tapestry portion measures roughly 21 by 34" There is some surface wear in the wood at the corners and areas where one would expect from an ot that has seen continued use. It is all intact& strong. At the top are a few very small pieces of burl veneer missing. but the tiny spots are old and smooth from, as above mentioned, continued use. The cock-beaded drawers feature brass key escutcheons and later very good quality turned brass shaped swan neck handles. All drawers and cupboard doors feature working locks and keys. To the back of the desk, there are a further three working drawers and below, there are two large working cupboards with hinged doors. Each cupboard features a fixed shelf. Walnut with matched flame burl panels. The finish is in excellent condition on this American made antique. There are shrinkage separations for character, see photos. The pull out desk is lined with contrasting curly or"birdseye" maple. The writing surface is natural saddle leather. Tiny drawers inside have hand cut dovetail joints and chamfered bottoms, two also have false bottoms with secret drawers. The removable bookcase has wavy glass mirrors that appear original. Here is an terrific mid-late 19th century flame mahogany column step back secretary with fold out desk. Turned legs and glass door bookcase or storage& display cabinet above and three large functional bureau drawers below. I've detailed the restoration work this lovely piece will need to bring it back to it's former full value in my detailed description of condition above and in my multiple photographs included to accurately represent the design, quality, condition and construction as well as the overall beauty and potential of this marvelous old piece of mahogany furniture bargain priced as a restoration project. It has had a few small professional repairs to the veneer previously. This wonderful cabinet travels easily in two pieces and stands 68 1/2 inches tall by 42 1/2 inches wide and 20 inches deep front to back. The top ... morebookcase section measures 33 1/2 inches tall by 42 1/2 inches wide at the bonnet by 12 3/4 inches deep front to back. It has 12 panes of glass in it's upper cabinet doors and three small drawers run across the bottom within the top cabinet just below the two display shelves. The bottom bureau section measures 36 inches tall with a 35 inch tall flat surface height when the desk is closed and a 3/4 inch recessed space along the back for the upper bookcase to rest in. The base is 42 1/2 inches wide and 20 inches deep front to back and had three drawers. Inside the top bookcase the cabinet measures 25 1/2 inches wide by 8 1/2 inches deep and 28 inches tall. Divided by a shelf with 12 inches clarance below the shelf and 15 inches clearance above the shelf. Below the shelves but inside the cabinet doors are three small beautifully hand dovetailed drawers, 11 1/4 wide by 5 3/4 inch front to back by 2 3/4 inch deep with the center drawer of the three actually being only 11 inches wide. Antique Victorian 14 Inch Lap Desk
This auction contains an antique Victorian lap desk. I am not sure of the type of wood it is. But my best guess is that it is either mahogany or cherry wood. Overall, considering its age, it is in a beautiful condition, except that there has been one small repair on the upper left hand lid and there is a definitive hairline crack on the top front where they curved the wood to meet the flat top of the top. The inside appears to have the original purple felt and there are two original ink bottles in the front part. It measures approximately 14 x 9 x 6. Also note the mother of pearl on top and the two beautiful designs. Please take a close look at the pictures to determine if this is the condition you want. FANTASTIC ESTATE FIND! This gorgeous French writing desk was sitting in a backroom with painting supplies on it.unbelievable! Although this piece is not perfect. The flaws in the top only add character and experience to the rich feel of this solid mahogany, handcrafted beauty. The wonderful handcarved cabriole legs with such an ornate fineal structure under the desktop are outstanding and capped with very ornate bronze eagle talons gripping it's ball feet present this piece of history with style, grace and strength. No one at the sale knew much about this table/desk. Except that it had been in the family for generations. The joinery help in dating this piece to prior to the industrial age with it's hand carved ducktails in the drawer and the ornate eagle talon/claw and ball feet tend to point towards an upper east coast, i.e. New ... moreYork, Rhode Island, Maryland, origin probably sometime between 1800 and 1850. The only maker's or craftsman mark are the numbers 1111 carved into the bottom of the desk and 1114 carved into the bottom of the drawer. A previous owner may have attempted or started a refinish job on this piece, but did not do much other than some spot touchup. It is pretty amazing the way it sits, but with a little know-how and the right products on the desk surface(the legs and fineal are darn near perfect) this piece would be simply stunning. I have set a lower starting price in order to compensate for finishing some flaws(but don't remove the character of age, please) and to help with shipping costs. 41"w x 26"d x29"h 1 drawer.
