One of the joys natural to most collectors is to find and own a scarce or illusive item. If a U.S. Coin or stamp were to exist with only four to five copies known. The value of such an item would be out of most collectors price range. Here is a chance to own just such an item. This is a 1902 Rail and Street map of Detroit. This map measures 20 X 28 inches. Map is from the Rand McNally Enlarged Business Atlas. Which is becoming quite scarce. These maps were not normally available to the public. But were published to help shippers, and businesses find the routes needed to ship by rail. Thus, the wonderfully large elephant folio size and exact detail. This map is genuine and not a copy or reproduction. It has copyright date of 1902. Shipping which includes a cut PVC tube in which map will be rolled and protected. Along with Priority postage. This map of Detroit is copyrighted 1906. It is from a 1907 Rand McNally Enlarged Business Atlas. McNally updated their city maps only when major changes were required. It measures 28 X 20 inches. Would look fantastic framed under glass. Shadows seen are my scanner. Not the map. According to worldcat.org. There are only two editions of this atlas in the major reference collections, making the maps from this atlas quite dear, fantastic to behold, and a smart investment. Once sold it is doubtful if we will ever have another one in stock. We will ship this map carefully rolled in kraft paper inside a cut pvc tube to prevent any damage. The most notable flaws are the pictured fraying along the lower right edge and the 1 1/2" circle area that has been taped from the backside(Pictured just to the left of the frayed edge) The surface of this map measures about 43" across and is about 58" tall. It also includes the built in mounting bracket/rail so it's ready to install. These make great decorative pieces. A colored map, this is a very large two page map measuring approximately 72 by 90 inches when both pages are combined. The map shows road classifications in Detroit& vicinity, Michigan and Ontario. Published circa 1952. These maps are very scarce and show the area in fantastic detail. A rare piece that will look great when framed. Overall map is in good condition. It has been stored rolled and will ship that way. There is some light browning around the edges. There are a few small stains here and there. There is a light tear in the top left edge. It measures approximately 11 x 14(including the border areas) On the other side it is blank. Will look very nice framed. Map is in generally good condition with most issues at the border areas where there are some chips and a couple of small rips that reach from the edge into the border area. Some other smaller discolorations/ expected light browning. But it does not affect the map. There are some larger tears on the top and right borders and some darker staining. This is well used overstock map that was in storage at a large public school district. The maps has some fraying and yellowing as would be expected of a map this age. The spring on this one works.
