Please scroll down the page to see additional photographs of this item. GUSTAFSBERG 1895 PARIAN VIKING-STEERSMAN FIGURE Presented is a wonderful Gustafsburg parian figure of a Viking-Steersman. The statue is done in outstanding details in parian. A type of hard French porcelain that closely resembles marble. The Viking leans against the serpentine figure of the helm of his vessel. He holds the tiller steady in one hand as he shades his eyes with the other to gaze out at the horizon. He props one leg on a well-articulated coil of rope at his feet. The planks of the ship, the texture of the braided rope, and the details of the Viking's hair, clothing, face and hands are all beautifully done with astonishingly realistic detail. His belt and the fastenings for his tunic are all nicely done, and clearly some thought went into the design of ... morehis clothing. The statue was made by Swedish Gustavsberg porcelain manufacture during their early period. The statue is marked on the reverse with GUSTAFSBERG for the maker and the date 95 for 1895. The condition is excellent. The statue is beautifully clean and white for its age. The very tip of one wing on the helmet and about half of the other wing are missing. But these are not very noticeable except on close inspection. The eye is drawn more to the Viking himself and his intent gaze. There are no other breaks, no cracks, no splits, no dents, no chips and no repairs. The statue stands approximately 12 inches wide. 8 inches deep and 21 inches tall. Know for being the first person to have swum the English Channel in August of 1875. From Dover to Calais, a distance of 40 miles in 21 hours and 45 minutes. Excellent quality and detailing. The back reads" Swan from Dover to Calais Capt n Webb Time 21 3/4 Hours" This bust shows him wearing two me dals. The first being the Royal Humane Society Stanhope Medal( the first recipient) for his attempted rescue of a seaman from the Atlantic Ocean and the second. The Liverpool Humane Society Medal. He was later awarded the newly designed Stanhope medal which is not shown on this bust. I have searched online and only found one other Parian bust of Captain Webb which sold at Bonhams ... moreauction house. It was a pedestal bust and he is shown with the three medals so I believe this to be possibly an earlier piece. This is an excellent quality bisque bust of Robert Burns. Very. Very nice piece. Could possibly be Parian Ware. 1759-1796 Scottish poet& lyricist, regarded as the national poet of scotland. I don't know anything about the piece. It belonged to my mother& has been boxed away for over 40 years& before that it belonged to my uncle who was an antique collector.The condition is perfect, no chips or cracks, 8" high, 4 3/4' across shoulders. Marked Burns across his back shoulders& also signed in a circle but I can't read it, it looks like RocL but I can't be sure. Antique Parian Girl Wearing A cross Bust Has Been Glued
This is a very fine bust and she is unfortunately broken. The neck has been glued but could use a better repair. The girl has no marks and she is about 7 inches tall. There might possibly be a nick above her eye but it is hard to tell if it was original or if it is a chip. The girl is wearing a cross. The bisque does have some dark pin prick marks and it might be normal. I don't know.

Antique Large Copeland Parian Bisque figural Mother and Child Staffordshire
We are pleased to offer this beautiful antique Parian bisque figural group depicting a mother and child. Possibly Copeland or another of the top quality English manufacturers. In excellent condition. However the finger and childs toy may have been repaired as they are showing a slightly different color. Measures about 12 inches tall, and the base measures 9 5/8 by 6 inches. The porcelain is slightly translucent when held to the light and has a very smooth polished finish. As found in a local estate and part of a collection of parian which was de accessioned in the late 1990's from the Bennington museum. Edme et Cie in 1845 at Rue Vendome in Paris, ... morewith the intention of supplying reproductions of ceramics on display in museums and private collections. Edme Samson et Cie firm is well known for their copies of the famous Meissen. Sevres, Chelsea, and Derby porcelains, but has claimed that all reproductions the firm produced would be distinctly marked to avoid confusion with the originals. Ironically this figurine is wrongfully attributed and authorship belongs not to the famous Italian sculptor Antonio Canova(1757-1822) But to French- Charles-Gabriel Sauvage called Lemire(1741-1827) and was created by Lemire around 1795, as a part of a large clock case that was never completed. Original in bronze was lost soon after the French Revolution and in 19th century Lemire's reading infant sculpture was only known by the white bisque copies. Produced by Dihl et Guerhard Manufactory. From the year 1781 to 1802 the manufactory commissioned many models of unsigned bisque porcelain and because most parian wares mimicked carved marble sculptures. Antique French parian ware sculpture figurine woman and boy Kaesbach
This parian ware figurine is 11 ½ inches high. 10 inches deep and 9 inches across. The figurine is a charming depiction of a woman with a child hanging on her back. The figurine is signed on the back with a blue crossed branches mark. It has impressed marks on the bottom that read Genuine Bisquit and Made in France. The piece is signed on the side with Kaesbach, which would likely be Rudolph Kaesbach(1873-1955) We are not sure whether he did this work or it is after his style. It is a lovely piece. The workmanship on the piece is excellent, especially on the fingers and the toes. It dates to the early 20 th century. It is in excellent condition with no chips. Cracks or repairs. The only imperfection is in the indentation on the womans arm that has something on it, maybe tape residue.

Antique Porcelain Bisque Figurine of a victorian boy dressed in period clothing. Holding a flower leaning on a fence. Late 19th century- Early 20th century. Actual date is unknown believed to be of German origin. The boy is standing on a porcelain pedestal painted to look like marble. Ornate design painted on his clothing. Bright rosy cheeks, a fence with shrubs. The detailed gold gilt is rubbed off in some places through out the statue and he could could use a bath. I did not clean him. There is a very small chip on his left shoulder and there are no cracks. The overall condition of this piece is very good especially considering his age. I took many photo's in high definition at every angle and left the photo's side way's for a larger more detailed look. He stands 16 1/4 inches Tall and is 4 1/2 inches at the base. Rare Parian Ware Man Proposing to Woman with Cupid
This is a wonderful piece of Parian Ware with a Man Proposing to a Woman with Cupid floating right behind her. The base is 8 1/2" X 5" and it stands about 7 1/2" high. This is a very unique piece. It does need to be cleaned and I will leave that up to the new owner. It is signed and numbered on the bottom but I do not know who it is. It is in great condition except it looks like a small piece of the tree was broken off(see last picture. Large 19th C Copeland Parian Bust of Lord Byron This large parian is in the form of Lord Byron mounted on a circular base with it's originalbrass cut nut. It is unsigned but we believe it was made by Copeland. It dates from the mid. to 3rd quarter of the 19th century and measures approximately 14 + 7/8 inches at it's highest point. 10 + 3/8 inches at it's widest point, and 4 + 1/2 inches acros the base. It is in excellent condition with the exception of a tiny nip on his shirt and we have not cleaned him. Shipping& Handling charger will be paid by Buyer. A very nice pair of rouse parian porcelain busts. John Wesley" Accredited with founding the Methodist Church movement and"Francis Asbury" the first Bishop. The busts are approx. 6" tall, 3 3/4" wide at the shoulders and 3" wide at the base. Sculpted by Lester Murphy& distributed by C.C. Engle in 1959. Rare to find as a pair and in this perfect condition. They would be a very nice asset to a church display cabinet. Parian is a fine-grained. Hard paste porcelain named for the marble it resembles. She does not have any information on the item as it was given to her several years ago as a gift. She did display it in a glass cabinet. I looked it over& I don't see any cracks or chips or damage. There is however a small black dot on the sculptor's left foot which you can see in some of the pictures. I believe the mark is in the glaze it self. But I am not 100% sure. The bottom of the base has a partial"Original Arnart" sticker. But I don't know from which country this item was made. The portion of the sticker with the country name is torn off.
