This pair of antique Jasperware framed tile/plaques has been in the same family for generations. They are framed in gold leaf/gilt frames. Paper covering back is stamped Germany. This is an item from an Antique and Vintage collection of Elephant figurines. I was told it came from China and was probably late 1800s early 1900s. or earlier. There is a lot of crazing. But the hand painted indigo flowers against the white porcelain or ceramic is fantastic. a steady hand was needed. The elephant is not hollow, it feels pretty heavy and solid. It weighs over 1/2 pound and is approximately 5 inches long and 3 inches tall. For any collector of Elephant figurines, this is a must have. I have not been able to find another! This goat was first designed by Joao Da Silva in 1931 at the auxiliary Rosenthal factory located in Plössberg. Germany. The main factory is in nearby Selb, Germany. In the early years of the Plössberg factory’s opening(1922/23) it was referred to as“Bahnhof Selb” which literally translates to“Train Station Selb” Later year marks used the Plössberg name. Da Silva designed but twelve(12) figurines for Rosenthal from 1928 to 1935, mostly goats and ducks. This is the first of three(3) goats he designed. The German underneath the manufacturer mark translates into English as"Hand painted by Wilhelm" This figure is approximately 10" x 12" HxL) This piece has been stored in a storage unit in a box for quite a while so it might have a bit of a dusty scent. This beautiful old figurine is very old and features very fine workmanship. It is signed with the Sevre mark on the base and some other writing which I cannot decipher. The base looks bisque. The figurine features several story lines and characters. There is the gentleman on his knees kissing the hand of the somewhat disinterested lady, who is seated beneath her big puffy-of-the-times dress with a pug like dog on her lap and a cup of tea in her hand. Her chair is high and quite noble, so perhaps she is the queen or a princess or a baroness of some sort. The black servant in the background holds a detailed plate of something yummy as she or he waits their turn in the line. The base has floral raised decoration all around and the fine detail in the floral dress.everything from the sword at the man's side to the very detailed dog. Just a ... morewonderful figure. There are two or three minor condition issues. The gentleman has a chip in his hair, which is tied like the hair you see during the American Revolutionary War. Also, one or two of the flowers has a small chip on the BACK of the figure. Even the man's damaged hair is facing back and cannot be seen much when viewed from the front. For such an old and rare piece.quite good shape with no reglued areas or pieces that I can find. It measures 5.5" long by 4" high and is just a special piece.
