It is made from solid walnut. But has a lighter coloration, closer to teak. Clean, sleek modern lines were likely inspired by the Danish Modern movement. The table's inlaid, two-tone top provides an intesting contrast of wood grains and tones(the table is primarily walnut(top veneer) with inlays(the long, horizontal stripes and small bowties are inlays- they look to be dark oak) Oak legs and stretchers provide ample structural support. Lane Style No. 0921-05; Serial No. 953160(I think this represents it's manufacture date: 06/13/59) Condition: One mention-worthy flaw(photos-there are several of the same flaw) a corner gash. But. The table is in very good vintage condition and is structurally sound and sturdy. The joints are tight and all of the hardware works. The finish does show some wear and would benefit from a touch up, but is very presentable as is. No refinishing is required or recommended. With the leaves extended, the table is 40" long, 22" wide and 25-1/2" high. With the leaves dropped, it is 22" long. I have seen this very table advertised on EBay for more than $250.00. However. Pair of Rare Virginia Maid by Lane Walnut End Tables
This is a rare set of walnut end tables manufactured by Virginia Maid. A Lane trademark, in 1962. They are very similar in style to tables Lane made for its Acclaim line, with subtler design features. Each table has a drawer that moves easily, with original hardware in perfect shape. Small, sharp, hourglass oak inlays stitch the corners, providing a nice pop of contrast to the warm, subtle color of the walnut and its vibrant patina. The finish is in fantastic shape for being over 50 years old, but it does have a couple minor blemishes. There are a few small, scattered scratches, faintly, and a tiny piece of veneer has been re-glued to the bottom corner of one of the table fronts, under the drawer. It can be seen on the right table in the first picture, and in the closeup fourth picture. In the right light, you can see hints of crazing, but ... morethis is really only visible when looking for it. I would normally want to refurbish pieces this old, but the finish is too fine and original to disturb. The construction is impressive, solid and sturdy. These tables are large and heavy. There is little information available regarding the history of Lane and Virginia Maid. Outside of hope chests. This is something of a mystery, because these are such terrific pieces of mid-century furniture. Though Lane made these alongside its Acclaim series, they must have been a much more limited run. I've only found a few other such tables, but none in a set and none in this condition. Depending on your preference, the design is subtler, cleaner, and perhaps more striking. These are companion pieces to the swivel coffee table that is also available. DIMENSIONS(in inches) Each table is 28" long. 21" wide, and 20" tall. Here we have two matching end tables by Lane. They are mid century modern style. These tables are made from walnut and teak wood. Which of course are very durable. They have a lovely dovetail detailing inset into the tops of the tables. They have NOT been refinished and are in good original vintage condition. They could use some love, but are solid and not damaged. The tops of the tables just have some wear and scuffing. Please refer to pictures.
