Small Antique Carved Mission Style Shoe Shine Cobblers Wood Stool Bench w/Drawer
This auction is for a beautiful vintage shoe shine stool. It is a wonderful piece as it is carved on 3 sides and even has the original tools mounted inside. There is a metal shoe frame mounted in the box so the customer could set their shoe on it for polishing. There is also a really neat measuring tool of some sort mounted in the box. This opens and closes by turning a key style handle. Also included is a shoe brush with bristles at one end and a pick on the back side of the brush. All the tools are in great condition. What I love about this piece is that it is a perfect size to use as a stool and display. It also is practical as it has a drawer in which you can store things in. The vintage fabric on top of the stool is sound and looks good. There is a crack in the wood on the uncarved side of the stool. The drawer knob has some of the edges ... moreworn/broken off but is sound. The hinges are in nice shape and there is even a lid stop/support. This is a wonderful piece of history and yet a practical piece to own. It stands about 16-1/4” tall. The stool top is about 14-1/2” by 12-7/8” I am not sure of the age but am guessing 1800’s. Adorable Vintage Hand Made& Tole Painted Wood Folk Art Miniature Cobblers Bench How adorable is this one? I purchased from an elderly gentleman in indiana who actually does make shoes and beautiful leather works. I'm not sure if he made it- I realized after I got home that I forgot to ask him. But it is a hand made piece. What I have is a vintage miniature wood cobbler's bench. It measures just 5" long in total, 2" widest and stands 2 1/4" tallest. It's light, weighing only about 1/4 lb. It has lovely hand painted detail- the base is black, and then you have a tuplip flower and colorful painted accents in shades of green, gold, yellow, browns and red. At the one side, there's a faux drawer with a little faux metal pull handle. On the top, there's 4 inset squares/partitions- each with a gold colored paint ... moreinside. I'm showing in photo 11 that there's a teenie pencil point sized hole located just under the base of the flower on the top- I have no idea if it has a purpose, if it had something in it at one time, or if it's natural to the wood, but it goes all the way through to the other side, I wanted you to know. I also want you to know that you have to really really look for it to even notice it. The piece is in excellent solid and sturdy condition. There's wear to the finish- mostly on the edges to the black as I'm showing you in photos 6, but that's the worst of it- it's minor, and it just adds to the primitive charm of this beauty.
