Antique Staffordshire 2 Young Boys on a Bridge Figurine What a couple of cuties! Presented is a wonderful Staffordshire figurine that features the figures of two young boys seated on a bridge. One boy has his hand raised to his head- it makes me wonder if a strong breeze just stole away his hat! Dates to the mid- to late-1800s. There is crazing throughout the piece. And it looks like someone has touched up the gilding. There is also a dark line around the backside of one of the boys(please see photos) I do believe it to be a crack, but I can't be sure- and even if it is, it hasn't gone all the way around the boy, so he certainly was never broken off at any point. As long as he is treated with a little TLC, it shouldn't be a problem. Plus, it's on the reverse of the piece, so unless you were planning on displaying these little ... moreguys with their backsides facing outward, no one's going to have any idea the line is even there! She also marked it"House Wren" and the number 259. This bird measures approximately 3 3/8" in height. The mark on the bottom is in excellent legible condition. According to websites regarding the dating of Crown Staffordshire. It seems to indicate the bird was made between 1906 and 1930. However, I do not believe this is accurate as the designer, Barbara Linley-Adams, died in 1995. She was known to work there as late as 1962, but I do not know how early she started working there. Beautiful antique bulldog. Nice heavy piece. Weighs 2 1/2 lbs. I believe it is either Staffordshire(because I acquired it in a box with 8 other Staffordshire pieces) or German. It definitely has the look of Staffordshire. Very good quality and highly detailed. Measures 6 3/4" high and 9 1/2" wide. Brown glaze. There is a repair to the back left leg(as seen in the picture) The repair was matched up perfectly with only some glue residue showing.

I don't know what it is. One of the black spots feels rough? I don't see any chips or cracks. The figurine kind of has a nose on the face but the whiskers. Etc. are painted on below it. The gold trim only goes around the front. The cat is about 5.75 across the front and stands about 5 inches tall. The figurine has not been cleaned it is as found. Staffordshire figurine of opera singer, 1860's
This is an English glazed figurine made by the Staffordshire factory around 1860. Of an opera singer performing the role of Mandane in Thomas Arne's 17th century opera, Artaxerxes. It is hand-painted, but I have no idea whether the peacock feathers inserted into the holes in Mandane's hand and turban are original or are replacements. There is a gilded line across the base. The only damage I notice is a small chip on the edge of the base(see photo) There are two tiny parallel lines painted underneath- some sort of maker's mark. A true pair and the dog's positions reverse such that they are facing each other when the figurines are placed side-by-side(pic#1) Appear hand-modelled and not from molds and please note how one of the dogs is a little shorter and fatter than the other as can be seen especially in pic#4. This listing is for a very unusual and most likely German or Japan reproduction of an earlier 19th century Staffordshire porcelain"Fairing" figurine entitled"The last in bed to put out the light" with two possibly children in white hooded gowns. Climbing into bed. One looking back at the candle at the foot of the bed that needs to be put out. China fairings are so named because they were given away as prizes at fairs in the Victorian era. Although some were manufactured simply for sale. They first started appearing in the middle of the nineteenth century and remained popular until the start of the First World War. Most fairings were manufactured in Germany by Conta and Boehme. This company developed a mass production method that no other company could match. Thereby achieving an advantage over ... moreother firms. The fairings were generally Victorian era prizes given at fairs thus the name. They were made in Germany and England. The fairing that is most often seen is the German made Conte Boehme one with the caption: The last in bed to put out the light. It depicts a couple getting into bed. With a candle in a candleholder at the end of the bed. Because it was considered lucky to snap the end of the candle when the victorious player had been presented with the fairing as his or her spoils at the funfair, it is often found with damage, ie the candle flame snapped off. This piece is in truly mint condition. I think it may be a repro as I have read that the two pencil sized holes on bottom indicate a newer version of the antique. Also looking at the face there is rather crudely painted features. I don't believe the 19th century piece would have that rough features. Repros of fairings were made in Germany once again, after initially not being produced during the war.
