For your consideration is an Antique Piano Baby Figurine made by Gebruder Heubach. A Piano baby is a figurine used to hold the edges down on the large shawls that would cover the piano. Doll sits 8 1/4" tall. The company. Which translates as Heubach Brothers, was established in 1843 by Georg Christoph and Phillipp Jakob Heubach when they purchased an existing porcelain factory in Lichte, Germany. The company began to manufacture items such as household pottery. Figurines and novelties, and in 1863 opened a local art school for sculptors. This training led to the company becoming renowned for its high quality and lifelike figurines, including their range of which are highly sought after by modern collectors. The company registered its‘sunburst’ mark in 1882. And by 1910 h ad begun to produce bisque dolls. Along with bisque doll heads ... morefor other manufacturers across Europe and the United States. Purchased long ago along with her mate and also a collection of about 50 Heubachs…she is guaranteed Heubach. As any Heubach collector can tell you, they are not all marked. This girl stands a massive 16” tall. She is holding a fan above her head. The fan is embellished with purple hand painted flowers. This girl has a very serene look on her face. See close-up pictures. She has intaglio blue eyes and coral colored blush and lips. There are ever so slight dimples on her cheeks. Her blonde hair is done in a top knot with a pink bow. Her dress is a pale greenish yellow with purple and gold embellishments of flowers and leaves and scrolls. There is one flaw ... morewhich is a shallow chip at the front right bottom edge. It has been painted in(paint matches well) and is not very visible. On the base. You might see slight smudges. This is where the painter held the item while decorating it. This is an original matching pair of Victorian era. Hand-painted bisque porcelain busts of a girl and a cavalier boy that is circa 1880's- 90's. This pair of charming bisque figures are unmarked. Judging from the technique, colors, and quality of this small busts I would say that they could have easily have been made by the GEBRUDER HEUBACH factory in Germany, but you can be the judge of that yourself. Antique Bisque Piano Baby, Vintage Porcelain Doll, German, Heubach?
Here is a nice old Antique Bisque Piano Baby. Looks to be German but I'm not sure as I'm certainly not an expert. There are no markings on the bottom. It was one of many in my late mother's doll collection that she had for over 50 years and I know it was considered to be an antique when she bought it. She was a very knowledgeable and avid antique bisque doll collector. One of the legs was broken in the distant past and was repaired. Looks to be just a simple glue repair. Upon further inspection. Looks like some of the raised golden dots on the collar are gone too.most likely from handling through the years. I did not see this immediately and is not obvious. Also, tops of the toes on the right leg look flat/worn down from shelf wear through the years. Still, this piano baby certainly deserves a professional repair. Lovely German antique Gebruder Heubach Piano Baby Doll figurine of a young Asian Oriental Boy holding an umbrella.Adorable little smiling face with intaglio eyes. It is a genuine marked antique figurine with the sunburst mark impressed in the bisque on the back. The figurine is 6 inches tall and 2.75 inches wide. It is in great antique condition with wear to the paint. There is also a small abraded area on the back of the umbrella which is not visible from the front view. Beautiful antique c. 1880' set of 2 hand-painted bisque porcelain piano babies girl& boy. Bright colors. Great detail. Please see all images of this lovely set. Marked on the bottom with Gebrunder Heubach mark. Numbered 3743. Boy has stamp"Made in Germany" Excellent antique condition. No chips or cracks. Measures approximately: girl 5" tall x 4.25" long boy 5" tall x 4" long Beginning in 1843. Brothers Georg Christoph Heubach and Philipp Jakob Heubach purchased a porcelain factory in Lichte, Thuringia, Germany and set up shop making household pottery, figurines, and novelties, according to the Illinois State Museum website. The company operated through the 1920s. Heubach is the collector's name for Gebruder Heubach. A firm working in Lichten, Germany, from 1840 to 1925. It is best known for bisque ... moredolls and doll heads, the principal products. The bisque dolls had molded hair or were wigged and had sleep eyes or painted intaglio eyes. They also manufactured bisque figurines, including piano babies, beginning in the 1880s, and glazed figurines in the 1900s. While some sellers classify a piano baby as a doll. These were actually decorative objects rather than playthings for children. During the Victorian era, homespun music was an entertainment staple. So yes, these precious and often life-like figures really were designed to decorate pianos in parlors of the day. One of the marks used by Gebruder Heubach is a stylized sunburst with a semi-circle containing and H imposed over G underneath. As shown on last image.The mark is sometimes very faintly incised into the porcelain with the sunburst being the most recognizable attribute and the lettering barely legible. Heubach Boy and Girl This auction is for an antique pair of authentic Gerbruder Heubach figurines of a girl and boy ready to dance. The faces are very sweet and both have the impressed mark with the stylized sunburst that has a semi-circle containing an H imposed over a G. The mark is on the back of both and also stamped in blue underneath on both. A darling pair that is hard to find! Will make a great gift for Mother's Day or to add to someone's collection. Up for bids is this Antique Late 19thC Signed Heubach German Bisque Bust Of Woman In Shawl Statue. This piece was made in Germany during the late 19thC by Gebruder Heubach. The back is marked on the back with Heubach GH in oval mark. The bust is made of bisque porcelain and has been finely hand painted. The fair haired woman with blue eyes and red lips has a a creamy white colored shawl draped over her head and around her shoulders. Her light blode hair is peaking out from under the shawl and there is a pine cone shaped brooch in sage green and light brown on the front of her shawl. The base is a pale yellow and brown shaped tree branches. The bust stands 13" in height. 6 3/4" in width, and is 5" in depth. It doesn't detract from her delightful charm, and I am sure you could do a slight repair on it, but she has been that way as long as I've had her and I just noticed it. I purchased the set at an Antique Auction awhile back and have had them displayed, drawing quite a bit of attention. They do need to be lightly cleaned, or you may leave them as they are. I did not want to damage them in doing so, and they are 1900 c. There is a mark on the bottom of each. The female mark is difficult to see and the male has a better mark, but someone glued felt to the bottom? I tried to pull it back and take a picture. Antique Gerbruder Heubach Boy& Girl Figurines Reading their books. C.1882. This is a beautiful matched boy/girl pair of figurines that stand about 11 inches high and 3-4 inches wide. They are approximately 125 years old. They have been in my family for at least 70 years. They are in excellent shape except for one blemish at the bottom of the fringed tuffet( stool) upon which the boy is sitting. It might be dirt but I am not sure and I did not want to take a chance on trying to clean it. This should be undertaken by a professional if the new owner feels the need. The blemish does not really detract much from the wonderful pair enjoying reading their books. The gold leaf on socks and tuffet is in excellent condition; also please note that the gold leaf was not carried around to the back of tuffet but does go to the back of the socks; in ... moremy research this is the standard presentation I have seen for the gold leaf detail on other pairs in this run. I photographed these in-doors on top of a piano in subdued light and also outside in somewhat shaded light. The photos outside present the best representation from my point of view of the detail and sensitivity of craftsmanship as well as the actual hues of the colors. Also note the mark in the last photo which is on the inside of both figurines and verifies they are Heubach. These sat on the top of my grandmother's breakfront throughout my childhood and after her death on the top of my mother's breakfront. They were never handled except for intermittent cleaning. I have seen these figurines sell individually at auction from $205-300; together as a matched pair they"should" be worth $500-600 or more. This auction is" as-is. Lovely Heubach German bisque-Enfolded in ruffles and ribbons. The sweet baby is playing with his or her own toes. Though this sweet little figurine has an opening in the back for a nosegay. It is in all other respects a miniature"Piano Doll" Dating from the late 19 th Century. This gem is fine ground bisque, with delicate tinting and gold accents. It has all the quality and distinctive look of Heubach and is incised with what I believe are the numbers“1652” as shown. Apprx. 2 5/8” high x 4 ¼” long. CONDITION Beautiful condition. With perfect face and toes. I always do my best to describe any flaws in my items and want you to be aware of an area on the back rim of the opening, where the bisque is thinnest. Though smooth to the touch, it could be a post production flake. It is mostly on the inside of the rim and is ¼” long ... morex less than 1/16” deep. Because it does feel smooth and is on the inside rather than the outside, it could have happened when the piece was removed from the mold. This is an adorable little boy piano baby figurine seated on a tall chair. He is wearing what looks like. A white sweater and light blue shorts and a peach hat. He is holding a piece of chalk in his hand and wearing wire glasses. The figurine is done in lovely soft pastel colors. Approximately 9 inches tall and 3 1/4 inches wide at widest point. Unmarked but judging from the quality he appears to be a Heubach creation. There is a minor chip to the inside of his hat that has been colored in and isn't noticable.
