The secretary has a mirror, that is on the top at the right side and unbelievably gorgeous carved details and applied accents all throughout. It also has the original metal hardware, which is absolutely incredible and ornate as well. The front door of the secretary that would open down as a writing service has been broken off, and in half horizontally, however, the hinges are intact and it could easily be repaired. This door is 14" top to bottom, 20" wide. There is a lot of light staining and wear as well as scratches and dings to the finish.

It was likely made in the early 1900's. Made of oak. And has a spooncarved front. There are no identifying markings. It is in excellent shape and it has the original finish. Brass fittings show a bit of tarnish but should clean up easily with a little TLC. Three of the posts on the brass rail at the top are loose but can be easily secured with a little bit of attention. One of the rail ends is stripped so that will need to be secured as well. Otherwise this piece is ready for your home. I would be happy to provide more detailed photos if requested. I hate to part with such a beautiful and unique item but we no longer have the room and it just doesn't fit our decor. It has 3 hidden compartments and lots of pigeon holes and small drawers. It comes with the keys for the upper hutch. The fold down desk and the small door inside but not the drawers below. It has the original glass, which is wavy and has bubbles in it, in both panels on the left side but not on the right side. One pane is missing on the right side but would be easy enough to replace. Lots of character on this gorgeous old piece. It measures 81 inches high, 47 inches wide and is 23-1/2 inches deep at the bottom. It comes apart in two pieces so the bottom part is 41-1/2 inches high, 47 wide and 23-1/2 deep and the top part is 39-1/2 inches high, 47 inches wide and 12 inches deep. The desk is approx. 85" high by 37" wide by 20" deep and has a cornice with dentil molding over the bookcase section which features original glass and adjustable shelves. The lower section has a pull out desk with fitted interior over three graduated drawers, all on straight bracket feet. The finish is old, possibly original. The hardware is period but is probably not original. There have been at least two different sets of hardware on the piece over the years. This is the proper style for the piece though two of the back-plates are different than the rest. I'm selling this beautiful antique secretary made of solid mahogany that I received from a gentleman who said it was in his family for 7 generations and was originally purchased in the Hudson River Valley in New York by his steamboat captain great-great-great-great-great grandfather in approximately 1800. It has 3 hidden compartments and lots of pigeon holes and small drawers. It comes with the keys for the upper hutch. The fold down desk and the small door inside but not the drawers below. It has the original glass, which is wavy and has bubbles in it, in both panels on the left side but not on the right side. One pane is missing on the right side but would be easy enough to replace. Lots of character on this gorgeous old piece. It measures 81 inches high, 47 inches wide and is 23-1/2 inches deep at the bottom. It comes apart in two ... morepieces so the bottom part is 41-1/2 inches high, 47 wide and 23-1/2 deep and the top part is 39-1/2 inches high, 47 inches wide and 12 inches deep. The fall enclosing a good interior with an interesting array of drawers and pigeon holes, arranged around a central cupboard, with the extra feature of having 2 secret drawers. The base is a usual arrangement of two short over three long, fully oak lined drawers which have had the handles replaced, probably more than 100 years ago.Top surface of desk open is 34.5H 40W 27D. Condition: This piece has some age appropriate signs of wear including scratches. Dents& scuffs. One of the small drawers is missing its pull, has a screw instead, and the key on the small cabinet door does not work. No additional keys included, otherwise it is overall in very good condition for its age. Above pair glazed doors divided by unusual inlaid oval and half-oval mullions into individual panes; three interior shelves, lighted/electrified; lower section has line-inlaid and cross-banded fall front opening to writing compartment fitted with two narrow drawers over eight arcaded pigeonholes above eight short drawers, all inlaid, centering inlaid prospect door; baise inset writing surface; two aligned, half-width case drawers over three graduated full-width drawers, all cockbeaded; shaped bracket feet.
