When fervor for antiques of the Louis XV taste were still at a remarkable high, this very attractive French Louis XV Bureau Plat was embellished with great effort. Featuring a solid mahogany top with a molded edge, the front of the bureau plat has a long hand dovetailed drawer for storage, opening to reveal a solid golden oak interior. The keyhole escutcheon is probably the finest bronze mount on the desk, a piece that prominently features the rocaille movement around the fully functioning key and lock. The apron is shapely, the front and back mirroring the flow of the top with a slight inversion in the middle. The cabriole legs are formed with very fine gate, the tapering form nearly perfect in proportion to the table, each surmounted with an intense rocaille Gilt bronze mount with the"C" form featured actively as it curls over the entire knee- a thin reed of gilt bronze continues to flow down the leg into the beautiful Gilt bronze sabot mounts with curling toes. This is a fully functional piece. Not just being a beautiful decorative art, the form being sturdy and strong throughout with a clean writing surface. I am not a subject matter expert. they come from the estate of an elderly couple and could have belonged to one of their parents. Not sure of their history! They are claw shaped and have a glass ball. Each measures about 3 3/8" long and 1 1/8" across the opening. There is one hole on the side but no screws. They are a rusty orange color. not sure if that is original or they were painted that way. there is some of that color on the glass balls. ANTIQUE COTTAGE ERA FURNITURE PEDIMENT w/ NICE DECORATIVE PAINTING
Up for bid is a very nice looking antique furniture pediment made I believe of Poplar. Though being as dark as it is, could easily pass for Walnut. The dimensions of this pediment are about 37-1/2" in length x 16-1/2" high and has a profile of about 2-1/2" deep out from the wall. The pediment displays some lovely flowing painted decorations in the center as well as flanking the center area. The pediment is in the condition as found and with a little stain and lacquer you could reveal the pediment's full potential. There is a soft spot above the center medallion, but I'm sure once the stain, perhaps mixed with a little wood harder, that area will hardly be noticeable, when it's hanging up on your wall, above a door or window. WONDERFUL'BOOK' OF ANTIQUE/VINTAGE"SLUMBER CHAIR COVER SAMPLES" FABRIC- UPHOLSTERY- FURNITURE COVERING SAMPLES DATES FROM THE 1920S- WWII 20 SAMPLES FROM THE MAKERS OF THE STREIT SLUMBER CHAIR CINCINNATI. OH BASED UPON MY RESEARCH: The slumber chair was made by C. F. Streit Manufacturing Co. founded in 1871 in Cincinnati. OH. The"Slumber Chair" was made from the mid 1920's until World War II. I have included a lot of pictures because this sample book is in rough condition. It is VERY OLD& it's dirty! I have not attempted to clean it whatsoever. I will leave that up to the buyer. I think that the samples themselves could be cleaned up quite nicely with an upholstery cleaner. The metal binding& the staples that affix the little tags to each sample ... moreare rusty. Therefore there are rust marks/stains on the fabric throughout the book. Condition of samples: there are some rough spots, stains, and some of the outer stitching is coming apart on a few. The upper left of the black part that reads"Slumber Chair Cover Samples" is not there. Measures approximately 9 3/4" X 9 3/4" PLEASE REFER TO THE PICTURES AND ITEM DESCRIPTION& ASK ALL QUESTIONS BEFORE BIDDING. AS THERE ARE NO RETURNS.
