I'm selling this beautiful antique secretary made of solid mahogany that I received from a gentleman who said it was in his family for 7 generations ... moreand was originally purchased in the Hudson River Valley in New York by his steamboat captain great-great-great-great-great grandfather in approximately 1800. It has 3 hidden compartments and lots of pigeon holes and small drawers. It comes with the keys for the upper hutch. The fold down desk and the small door inside but not the drawers below. It has the original glass, which is wavy and has bubbles in it, in both panels on the left side but not on the right side. One pane is missing on the right side but would be easy enough to replace. Lots of character on this gorgeous old piece. It measures 81 inches high, 47 inches wide and is 23-1/2 inches deep at the bottom. It comes apart in two pieces so the bottom part is 41-1/2 inches high, 47 wide and 23-1/2 deep and the top part is 39-1/2 inches high, 47 inches wide and 12 inches deep. I live in Santa Cruz but delivery is possible anywhere in the San Francisco or Monterey bay areas(or nearby) if you cover my expenses or we negotiate it into the selling price. Please email if you have any questions or would like to come over to Santa Cruz to have a look. Bid with confidence. Please check my feedback. 10% of selling price will go to the Blind Cat Rescue. Please pay via PayPal within 48 hours of auction's end. Thanks for looking.

Crafted in England c1960 Flame mahogany Brass hardware Brown leather w/ gold tooling 10 standard drawers 1 file drawer 2 cabinets Very sturdy Some very minor wear marks Excellent condition, This stunning flame mahogany partners desk was crafted in England around the year 1960. The flame mahogany looks incredible. With a rich complexion and a pronounced grain that are sure to complement any setting. Each drawer is adorned with elegant solid brass pulls and features dovetailed joints. The writing surface is inlaid with rich brown leather bordered by gold tooling-which was replaced during a recent restoration that also included a new coat of hand-rubbed wax. In total, this desk features three drawers and two cabinets on one side, with seven standard drawers and a file drawer on the other. Conveniently this desk disassembles quite easily: like all pedestal desks, the top simply rests securely on the two pedestals. Some of the surfaces show some minor wear marks, particularly on the feet, but they are very minor indeed, so overall condition is excellent, especially for a desk from this period. This exquisite partners desk contains a large amount of storage space. With drawers and cabinets on both sides. The"front" of this desk contains seven standard drawers and a single file drawer. This desk looks great from any angle. The back is just as beautiful as the front. Each drawer and cabinet continues to operate very smoothly. The brown leather makes a rich writing surface. CHIPPENDALE PERIOD SOLID TIGER MAPLE DESK-CIRCA 1770 DEERFIELD, MASSACHUSETTS
FABULOUS WESTERN MASSACHUSETTS CIRCA 1770 CHIPPENDALE PERIOD SOLID TIGER MAPLE DESK WITH COMPLETELY DOVETAILED CASE With our sheer delight and are both humbled and proud to offer you this fabulous circa 1770 American Revolutionary War era Chippendale period solid tiger maple desk attributed to the Pioneer Valley of Western. Massachusetts(likely Deerfield, Mass) The awesome desk has a completely dovetailed case. Its top case, its old growth single width pine plank base board and even its bracket base all around are all entirely dovetailed and make the desk identifiable by its construction technique provenance notwithstanding. It has fabulous original back panels and white pine chamfered drawer panels all, of course, on wonderfully dovetailed drawers. The desk has received some professional museum grade restoration to its base structural supports. ... moreThis is very common among heavy Chippendale period desks that had original pine support elements. Pine is a secondary wood, degrades as a"softwood" much faster than hardwoods and pieces that have belonged to multigenerational families typically have their pieces professionally maintained to keep its structural integrity. One back edge of the desk has a very small dry rot spot and one was addressed on the other edge. We would be happy to have our woodworker insert a small splice or you can leave it alone like we prefer to do. Again not at all unusual in 18th Century pieces. This comes from a part of the United States that in the 18th Century was directly in the path of major British Army campaigns advancing through Massachusetts and light hit and run engagements by the Colonial Militia. Its a wonder it survived at all. It is adorned with period Chippendale brasses that appear correct and original to the piece. It has all its original locks in tact and a interior that is both wonderful and befitting the desk with great moldings, drawers, document cubbies, a door with two smaller drawers behind it and two tiny hidden drawers concealed within the moldings. You are o

Antique Mahogany Secretary Desk & Hutch Circa 1800 w/Keys & Hidden Compartments
I'm selling this beautiful antique secretary made of solid mahogany that I received from a gentleman who said it was in his family for 7 generations and was originally purchased in the Hudson River Valley in New York by his steamboat captain great-great-great-great-great grandfather in approximately 1800. It comes apart in two ... morepieces so the bottom part is 41-1/2 inches high, 47 wide and 23-1/2 deep and the top part is 39-1/2 inches high, 47 inches wide and 12 inches deep. OYSTER VENEER OVER YEW WOOD ENGLISH WILLIAM & MARY PERIOD DESK CIRCA 1700-ORIG.
IMPORTANT CIRCA 1700 ENGLISH WILLIAM& MARY OYSTER VENEER OVER YEW WOOD DESK-THE RAREST OF FINDS! With our highest compliments we are thrilled to offer you this true Circa 1700's English William& Mary period Oyster Veneers over Yew Wood Desk. We have handled some very important English pieces over the many years. We are extremely proud to claim we presently have several of the English pieces in the US in our inventory. But nothing like this! These simply don't turn up in the American market place. Only a handful turn up in England here and there. This remained in one old American family for generations coming off of Long Island. New York. This is a fantastic desk with finely laid out three tiered stepped back interior complete with a ten drawers, privacy door with more drawers, a sliding base door allowing a storage compartment ... morewith the added feature of three concealed drawers that are ingeniously hidden behind what looks like the frame of the desk. This desk was examined by several expert hands before this feature was detected. The desk has its original cotter pinned engraved brasses and escutcheons. The locks are all present and most amazing of all is its in a great original finish and surface. The case is entirely cross banded inlaid around the drawers and the entire case accenting the Oyster veneers. It stands on large ball feet and has all its original structural integrity. The only issue we felt was prudent to address was applying a small amount of a resin filling agent to the very bottom of one of the front ball feet to cure some naturally occurring wood degrading. We believe in full disclosure. Many of you don't know us yet and depending on pictures to make a purchase. If we addressed something you should know it. The feet are totally original(which is also amazing) and we decided to take precautions from one splitting or breaking. The case has some very old shrinkage seams on each side and that is it! Absolutely amazing that a 300 plus year old piece of furniture has survived so well.
CIRCA 1770'S CHERRY CHIPPENDALE DESK W/AMPHITHEATER INTERIOR-UPPER CRV-MASS

MASSACHUSETTS CIRCA 1770'S With our compliments we are thrilled to offer you this most exceptional circa 1770's Chippendale period cherry desk from the Upper Connecticut River Valley of Western Massachusetts. This desk just jumped right out at us the moment we locked eyes on it. We are based in the Pioneer Valley of Western Massachusetts on the banks of the Connecticut River. 18th& early 19th Century Upper Connecticut River Valley furniture is one of our greatest passions. This is the home of a most distinct discipline of Colonial American furniture making. We have& continue to extensively study CRV case pieces. Chairs and decorative arts. The known works of Arron& Eliphalet Chapin, William Lloyd, Peletiah Bliss ... moreand our other lesser known important cabinet makers are one of our strongest passions. We are very fortunate to have the amazing resources of the Connecticut River Valley Museum& Historic Deerfield locally available along with some of the best Estates belonging to the oldest families in America. We take great pride in our collective ability to identify and attribute many of our native pieces we encounter. In this desk we immediately noted some extremely unique deviations telling us it is crafted by one of the smaller Upper CRV shops with its origins being between the Springfield and Northampton, Massachusetts region of the CRV. We strongly feel you are looking at one of the few surviving pieces by this yet to be attributed cabinet maker& joiner. We have taken careful measurements& photographic detailing of its unique characteristics and if we are ever able to correctly attribute this desk we will be honored to notify you. This desk is defined by a super look, glowing old finish with perfect scale and form employing a dovetailed and period rose head nail joined case. Antique Chippendale 19 Drawer Walnut Slant Front Desk American circa 1700's
For your Bidding consideration in this Auction is an Antique Walnut(the estate I acquired this from said it was walnut. Another person said it may be mahogany so please view photos) Slant Front Desk. In researching the desk, a very similar desk recently sold on Ebay and was stated to have been made circa 1770 in Philadelphia which is where I am getting my estimated date and place of manufacture from as in all of my research it most closely resembles that one. Please view photos to determine for yourself an estimate of age and manufacturer dating. The desk has 2"Secret" compartments, one is hidden as a false bottom in one of the drawers, the other hidden in the cabinet beneath one of the drawers/ May be others I haven't found. Note the large 4 bottom drawers are graduated in size and pencil numbered. Following are the dimensions: ... moreHeight: 44 inches Width: 39 3/4 inches Depth: 20 1/2 inches Weight: estimate 100-125 pounds. I do not have a good way to weigh it so this is just an estimate The condition for age overall is good. A few things to note is there are as follows: one of the brass key hold covers is missing. May have had a hinged door inside the cabinet at top, there is a very old"mouse hole" finger notch in the top drop front section giving easy access to open the desk, one of the decorative drawers inside the top section of the cabinet is missing the front and sides. I do not have a key for it. May also show a few other scratches and age related dings but overall a very solid, beautiful desk. I am offering this as pick up only as I have never packed a piece of furniture like this and would be nervous about not packing it correctly for shipping. I do work with a local UPS Store who does an excellent job though so am confident they will do a great job for you or you can pick it up or have your own shipper come and pick it up. I can deliver it to the UPS Store for a nominal $25 fee for gas& time(they are 30 miles from me) and you can make the shipping arrangements directly with them(
