It has a really nice 8 1/2" tall turned finial on top of the traditional'broken arch' top. It has two fixed shelves in the bookcase top behind glass doors with original fret work over the glass. It has a big mechanical lid or writing surface in good condition but for a tiny veneer chip(no cracks) The interior of the desk is serpentine shaped with 3 drawers. It has claw front feet and is in very good condition, however, it does have ... moresome light surface scratches and general wear that are typical of a piece that probably dates to the early 19th century, although I cannot be completly sure of its age. It has lovely carved accents and trim. The key is intact with it and the little side supports come out automatically when the front writing desk surface is lowered. Someone has unfortunately drilled a hole in the back that is about 2" in diameter. The desk has 4 drawers with all of the original knobs intact. It stands 41" tall at the trim at the back, 40" tall at the top, is 41" wide at the feet, 37" wide at the top, and is a total of 22" deep at the bottom, and 19" deep at the top.

Antique country Chippendale school master's desk. Pine wood has been stained a deep reddish color and has a beautiful aged patina. Lift-top/ slant-top writing surface with storage area beneath sits atop a single. Long drawer. Brass willow mount escutcheons and drawer pulls with bail handles. Fine dovetail joints on drawer as well as on the corners of the top half. The piece sits on tapered square legs. This classic piece dates from the early 1800's. Overall. The desk is in very good estate condition. There is some noticeable wear along the corners and edges and especially along the modling that runs across the front. See pictures. Vintage Solid Wood Chippendale Governor Winthrop Slant Top Desk Secretary
T his beautiful vintage desk is one of the best Colonial models of a Governor Winthrop style slant top desk. Was purchased in the 1970's from Terryville Furniture in Connecticut and is still in excellent condition. The Terryville Furniture Store was in business for 70 years and closed its doors in 1994) It does not have the secret compartment next to the little door inside, but it has an absolutely beautiful solid cherry wood rubbed finish. The raised cabinet with four large dove tail drawers sits on carved ball and claw feet, and in the slant top are small drawers, and a detailed small door. This is an amazing Slant top secretary writing desk in great condition! It is antique white painted over genuine mahogany and gold painted edges for added detail! This Chippendale secretary desk has such details and charm as well as quality made! The overall paint color is a creamy white and in some areas you see the mahogany showing thru. There is some very minor paint loss at the bottom and some around the edges but in think it adds additional character and charm to this piece! The hardware is an antique look and dark brown almost black in color. The drawers are dovetailed at the edges which is a stronger way to connect the ends together! The drawers slide out on the tracks very smoothly. It is a slant top and has supports once you open the top. The 4 legs are sturdy and at the top and bottom of the desk is some nice curves~ The inside ... morehas several compartments and 7!drawers inside to organize and a key so you can lock it up!
