The desk comes with four raised panel dove tail drawers that retain all the original hardware. The center where the legs go have a reverse cove carving, which I have never seen in oak. It has a scallop bottom trim base, raised panels all the way around and a wide bevel edge on the solid tiger sawn oak top. The only negatives I see on the desk is that there is a little wear on the edge of the top from rubbing against something and there is a split going down the center of the top. We most likely could pull the top off and repair the top, which wouldn’t make a huge difference, but it is an expensive repair. The desk itself is high end quality.

Lenoir, North Carolina-the underside of the table is also stamped: Oval Table-Cherry-29-etc. Made of Cherry wood-medium, chestnut brown stain allows for much of the grain in the wood to show. Set consisted of table with removable center piece-5 regular chairs and one captain's chair with arms-hutch and buffet. I bought these 20 years ago and now am getting different furniture. I had the seats professionally reupholstered long ago to match my decor(olive green/goldish print)I have always kept seat pads on the chairs when in use-so the seats are in great condition. Table measures 58" x 40" x 30 1/2" tall-with an additional center piece that measures 12" wide. The Hutch is 47" x 15" x 70" tall. The Buffet is 57" x 17 1/2" x 30 1/3" tall. Overall very nice condition-normal wear for being 84 years old. Some things I would mention are that the wood color of the center piece section is darker than the rest of the table, it was like that when I bought it-possible meant for contrast or maybe because it was stored out of the light)also a slice of the corner wood has broken off as can be seen the the picture-back rt corner of section. Also-a bit of wood had chipped off the top corner of the table leg(tiny but I mention it to be exact-not seen from the top) The legs screw off with attachment bolts to remove them for storage. Also, one chair missing a decorative wood curve on front leg-shown in pic. Also- scratch on table top-6" and 1 1/2"shown in last pic. If I missed something-please ask. The color of the hutch in the first pic is the true color-rich and beautiful. Fine Antique 18th Century American Chippendale Mahogany Slant Front Desk c.1770

Description: This listing is for a Chippendale Period Slant Front Desk circa 1770-80. Salem Massachusetts, in the manner of John Chipman(b. 1746-1819) It features solid Cuban Mahogany case, each side crafted of a single solid plank, through-dovetailed at the top and dovetailed at the bottom. The slant front lid features an original keyhole escutcheon over what appears to be the original brass lock, falling onto arms that slide out with brass knobs- one original, the left one replaced. The open writing surface is clean, with what appear to be two original brass hinges, though curious patching is noted below flaking each hinge. Above the writing surface is a collection of nine small drawers, the centermost shell carved, each with ... morebrass knobs, below which a gallery of six pigeon holes rest in perfect symmetry. The case has four graduated drawers. Each of which feature period bail pull brass hardware flanking a replaced lock with original brass keyhole escutcheon. The drawers are hand dovetailed front and back, the front dovetails hidden behind applied cockbead molding. The drawers are yellow pine secondaries, the bottom being deeply chamfered along the perimeter to rabbet into the frame. They slide easily in and out of the case over replaced drawer runners, the drawer dividers running into the sides behind a mahogany facade, effectively hiding what are probably dovetail joints. The back of the case has all original backboards, though many nails are replaced. The molded apron features a carved shell drop down medallion in the center that mirrors the design of the middle drawer. The case rests over scroll cut bracket feet, each with an incredible flowing design in the manner of John Chipman. We do not believe the desk was executed in the shop of John Chipman. Originally crafted during the last quarter of the 18th Century and altered during the first quarter of the 20th Century. It was probably a more plain version of the rather fine piece we see today. Altered to suit the appetite for high-style pieces during the first quarter of the 20th Century. Crafted of mahogany veneers with pine and oak secondaries, the case features two over three graduated drawers with replaced brasses over bold oversized bracket feet. C. 1770-90 Item# 120411EIU26 This listing is for a Fine Chippendale Period Ball and Claw Slant Lid Desk. Salem or Boston Area, Massachusetts circa 1770-90. It features wonderful dense grain solid board mahogany lid, rabbeting on both sides to complete the horizontal frame, lifting smoothly over replaced brass hinges and falling on two sliding mahogany lopers with original brass knobs to reveal a large writing surface and gallery of nine small drawers and four scalloped cubby holes. The drawers are each inscribed for where each belongs in the scheme of the desk, in pencil 1-9, and each is hand dovetailed with chamfered bottoms rabbeting into the drawer frame. The center drawer is a wonderful sunk 18-lobed shell carved design flowing into the two ... moredrawers below it in a form common in Massachusetts case pieces, each drawer face carved out of a solid piece of mahogany. The case is crafted of solid single boards of mahogany along each side. Dovetailed into the parallel-grained pine case bottom and through-dovetailed at the top. The back is constructed of three large pine boards, behind which a pine bar perpendicular to the boards to support the top to the bottom, dovetailed at both ends with a screw through the bottom. Carved solid molding runs along the bottom of the case with an applied scalloped skirt pendant at the center, reinforced from the back with rounded glued blocking. Each drawer is graduated. Each below larger proportionally to the one above, sliding in and out of the beaded frame. The white pine frame side rails are beaded on their top inner surfaces, dovetailed at the front and backs, the bottom boards running perpendicular to the case, chamfered along the edges and rabbeting into the frame. Overall very good condition with a couple of issues. There is some sun bleaching as can be seen in the pictures and the drop front has a split. Original Antique 1753 Chippendale Engraving Plans & Specs Desk & Bookcase LXXVII
Description As described in the title and shown on the 10 photos and 2 scans(most accurate as to color and texture) This is an original engraving from a rather large volume that Thomas Chippendale published in 1754. We have no idea how many editions or printings were created from these rather well known plates. It was last matted and framed in the 1970's but the frame was damaged and we tossed it. We tested the mat and back and they are both acid neutral. The back is in good condition with the impressions of framing nails around the edges as would be expected. The mat is bright and clean without aging or damage so we are sending the print still mounted with two framer's strips on the back and the mat loose. The mat measures about 19 3/8" x 24 3/8" with an opening approx. 9 1/2" x 14 1/2" which shows and frames ... morethe plate impression. The print is on laid paper as it should be and is generally bright and clean with some ink fading and spotting. Outer area foxing or toning, several tiny pin holes and other expected wrinkles and marks. The bottom portion shows the remnants of binding and is bumped and injured as shown in the photos below. However, once the print is matted and framed, it presents quite nicely. The paper measures approx. 11" x 18" and the plate impression measures approx. 8 5/8" x 13 7/8" The upper right corner is stamped"LXXVII. and the name of furniture piece is"Desk& Bookcase. The bottom is marked"T. Chippendale inv. et del. Pub. according to act of Parliam. 1753. and"T. Muller sculp. There are many small numbers and marks that are in the engraving of the desk and bookcase- don't know if these are specs. or refer to plans. Please note that it was difficult for the camera to produce accurate colors and textures of the mat and print but we were able to scan small portions of both. Laudable in every regard as a work of a highly skilled craftsman. The first feat was the selection of boards that would truly set this desk apart- it is an understatement to describe the golden and brilliant flow of mahogany from the slant lid through the top as simply brilliant. It is pure and breathtaking. The paired boards are literally superior to almost every desk we have handled in their visual qualities: the excited swirls of each board flow into one another with a symmetry that is not simply mirrored or"match-booked" but is carefully planned and took great consideration on the part of the craftsman. Effect like this is rare and shows great taste and means. The rest of the case has a warm"plum ... morepudding" appearance to the mahogany. The graduated drawer facades intentionally restrained in order to highlight the stunning gilt-bronze hardware on each drawer. These original pieces are works of art, exceedingly expensive even at the time of production. Flanking the drawers are the drawer slides, these with dangling hand forged gilt bronze pulls. Each of these parts is framed in thin applied cockbead molding; on the drawers, this molding wraps around the hand dovetailed front joints. The sides of the case are solid planks of mahogany. Each a fine and broad selection- the left side is a single plank, the right side is two planks of very close grain formations. The back of the case is undisturbed with even color, the entire case resting over original bracket feet of robust and appropriate breadth to match the overall air of the case. Winroth and has a beautiful inscription of historical prominence that reads"Renovated by Albert R. Winroth and Sons Stoughton Mass. Oct. 7th, 1939 Just the way Dad would have done it. C. 1770-90 Item# 120411EIU26 This very fine piece almost certainly originates from the Salem or Boston work centers in Massachusetts during the last quarter of the 18th Century. Circa 1770-90. The dense and beautifully grained solid mahogany used in the desk was clearly selected with great care, the smooth and undulating lines of the boards understated and subtle, flowing from one drawer to the next and ultimately into the slanting desk surface. This is constructed with a solid horizontal plank flanked by vertical strips affixed with glued groove and tenons, lifting smoothly over replaced brass hinges and resting on the projecting ... morelopers with original brass knobs to reveal a large writing surface and gallery of nine small drawers and four scalloped cubby holes. The drawers are each inscribed for where each belongs in the scheme of the desk, in pencil 1-9, and each is hand dovetailed with chamfered bottoms rabbeting into the drawer frame. The center drawer features a wonderful sunk 18-lobed shell carved design flowing into the two drawers below it, a design common to these work centers, each drawer face carved out of a solid piece of mahogany. The case is crafted of solid single boards of mahogany along each side. Dovetailed into the parallel-grained pine case bottom and through-dovetailed at the top. The back is constructed of three large pine boards, behind which a pine bar perpendicular to the boards to support the top to the bottom, dovetailed at both ends with a screw through the bottom. Carved solid molding runs along the bottom of the case with an applied scalloped skirt pendant at the center, reinforced from the back with rounded glued blocking. Each drawer is graduated. American Chippendale Walnut Antique Slant Front Desk, Pennsylvania c. 1790-1815
AMERICAN CHIPPENDALE WALNUT SLANT FRONT ANTIQUE DESK. PENNSYLVANIA Probably Delaware River Valley. Circa 1790-1815 Item# 1407JXE27P This is an outstanding example of late Chippendale from the Delaware River Valley region of Pennsylvania. The craftsman executing this work selected the walnut planks with great care. Utilizing a positively chaotic grain flow for the drawers and prospect door with a more symmetrical grain for the lid and sides of the case. Lifting over period brass hinges(possibly original) to rest firmly on projecting lopers reveals a rectangular prospect door flanked by document drawers and two-over-one drawers beneath four pigeon-hole letter slots. The document drawer sides are covered with period inscriptions. Much of it being accounting but also with a note in the same hand and pigment reading"August 4 1812" and ... morea somewhat illegible signature of"Ger Ryall Jr. The facade of the desk is composed of four graduated drawers with molded lipping and period brasses in the original holes(probably replacements) The drawers are constructed in the typical manner for this region. The frame of poplar with dovetails of the sides contained within the dovetails of the front and back, the bottom boards half-lapped and deeply chamfered along the edges to set in grooves along the sides and front with triangular glue blocks along the chamfered edges for permanence. The back edge is tacked with square forged iron nails. The interior of the case features three-quarter depth dust boards of yellow pine. These joined together with tongue-in-groove joinery that has long since separated and left gaps between sections. The underside of the desk is clean and solidly constructed with a large rectangular block inside each foot- the underside is apparently untouched and retains an illegibly signature in large strokes. The"B" J" or"R" that is so boldly represented on the underside is also found on the bottom of several drawers and both document drawers. The back of the desk is untouched ot

A center drawer, an amazing deeply tombstone carved knee hole safe compartment that is ingeniously concealed within its case, finely beveled edged profiled shaped top, period brasses, tall bracket feet with arched aprons and an all dovetailed case employing the very best joinery techniques of the 18th century. We truly have only encountered a hand full of these. The rest are all in Important American Museums' collections. These jump right off the pages of Wallace Nutting's Furniture Treasury and leads on"the best" grading of both Israel& Albert Sacks reference books. We note a few extremely high quality and typical restorations that we make no apologies or excuses for and that is it-its just so sweet. Fine American Chippendale Block Front Mahogany Antique Slant Front Desk c. 1770
VERY FINE AMERICAN CHIPPENDALE SLANT FRONT DESK WITH FITTED INTERIOR Probably Newburyport. Massachusetts c. 1770 Provenance from the Israel Sack Collection w/ original label signed by Israel Sack in top drawer Held in a single collection since 1931(provenance details available upon request) Item# 409LXI13S A remarkable work of art from the Newburyport area of Massachusetts. This fine American Chippendale desk is clearly executed by a craftsman of some skill. The case is joined in a manner typical of the work center, the top with tidy exposed dovetails along both sides, the bottom board likewise dovetailed into the sides of the case. The drawer blades are set into the sides of the case behind a thin applied stile on either side, these carved with raised edges to simulate cockbead molding around the drawers. The backboards are bevelled around ... moreall three edges to set flush against the back, affixed at regular intervals with mostly original iron sprigs. Each drawer is crafted with utmost precision and care, the complex blocked drawer sawn from a very thick board in a manner that leaves the drawer light and agile while the beautiful mahogany plank maintains strength and stability. These slide smoothly in and out of the case with little friction or wiggle. The lid lowers to rest on a pair of mahogany lopers revealing an attractive fitted interior with six pigeon-hole compartments over three small drawers over two large drawers and an open storage compartment flanked by a pair of blocked drawers with half-shell carvings. A pair of document drawers flank the middlemost pigeon-hole and drawer, these with beautiful turned columns closely related to the Newburyport work center, one inscribed"William Holker/ Mooney's Block Water Street" The entire case rests over ogee bracket feet and conforming stepped molding, the lower 1 3/4" of all feet having been replaced in the early 20th century. Fine American Chippendale Ball & Claw Footed Antique Slant Front Desk, c. 1770
EXCEPTIONAL AMERICAN CHIPPENDALE MAHOGANY SLANT FRONT DESK OVER CLAW FEET Salem or Boston Massachusetts. C. 1770-90 Item# 211CKJ26F This very fine American Chippendale desk almost certainly originates from the Salem or Boston work centers in Massachusetts during the last quarter of the 18th Century. The dense and beautifully grained solid mahogany was clearly selected with great care. The smooth and undulating lines of the boards understated and subtle, flowing from one drawer to the next and ultimately into the slanting desk surface. The desk top is constructed with a solid horizontal plank flanked by groove-and-tongue vertical strips, lifting smoothly over period replaced brass hinges and resting on the projecting lopers with original brass knobs to reveal a large writing surface and gallery of nine small drawers and four scalloped cubby ... moreholes. The drawers are each inscribed for where each belongs in the scheme of the desk, in pencil 1-9, and each is hand dovetailed with chamfered bottoms rabbeting into the drawer frame. The center drawer features a wonderful sunk 18-lobed shell carved design flowing into the two drawers below it, a design common to these work centers, each drawer face carved out of a solid piece of mahogany. The case is crafted of solid single boards of mahogany along each side. Dovetailed into the pine case bottom and through-dovetailed at the top. The back is constructed of three large pine boards laid horizontally and half-lapped, behind which a pine support runs perpendicular to the boards, dovetailed at both ends with a screw through the bottom. Carved solid molding runs along the bottom of the case with an applied scalloped skirt pendant at the center, reinforced from the back with rounded glued blocking. Each drawer is graduated. Each below larger proportionally to the one above, sliding in and out of the beaded frame. Antique Chippendale 19 Drawer Walnut Slant Front Desk American circa 1700's
For your Bidding consideration in this Auction is an Antique Walnut(the estate I acquired this from said it was walnut. Another person said it may be mahogany so please view photos) Slant Front Desk. In researching the desk, a very similar desk recently sold on Ebay and was stated to have been made circa 1770 in Philadelphia which is where I am getting my estimated date and place of manufacture from as in all of my research it most closely resembles that one. Please view photos to determine for yourself an estimate of age and manufacturer dating. The desk has 2"Secret" compartments, one is hidden as a false bottom in one of the drawers, the other hidden in the cabinet beneath one of the drawers/ May be others I haven't found. Note the large 4 bottom drawers are graduated in size and pencil numbered. I do not have a good way to weigh it so this is just an estimate The condition for age overall is good. A few things to note is there are as follows: one of the brass key hold covers is missing. May have had a hinged door inside the cabinet at top, there is a very old"mouse hole" finger notch in the top drop front section giving easy access to open the desk, one of the decorative drawers inside the top section of the cabinet is missing the front and sides. I do not have a key for it. May also show a few other scratches and age related dings but overall a very solid, beautiful desk. I am offering this as pick up only as I have never packed a piece of furniture like this and would be nervous about not packing it correctly for shipping. I do work with a local UPS Store who does an excellent job though so am confident they will do a great job for you or you can pick it up or have your own shipper come and pick it up. I can deliver it to the UPS Store for a nominal $25 fee for gas& time(they are 30 miles from me) and you can make the shipping arrangements directly with them(

EXCEEDINGLY FINE AMERICAN CHIPPENDALE OXBOW DESK OVER BALL AND CLAW FEET Boston. Massachusetts c. 1760-80 Retaining original brasses. Feet and chalk inscription to underside Item# 411MKP15V A remarkable work of art. This fine American Chippendale slant front desk features the very desirable"oxbow" or"serpentine" facade cherished in the best pieces. Hewn from incredibly thick mahogany logs, these drawers are sawn into shape with a continuous plank to achieve the fluid movement found in the case. The top drawer is particularly difficult to execute, as this retains much more of the mahogany and not only serpentines with the case but also is faceted along the top edge. Retaining it's brilliant polished brass batwing hardware, the desk remains in an outstanding state of preservation. The drawer structures are untouched. ... moreEven the applied runners remaining original to the case. These are crafted in the typical manner for the Northern Shore of Massachusetts- the pine frame is dovetailed along the front and back, the bottom deeply chamfered and set into rabbets in the sides of the drawer over which a thin pine runner is applied to create the groove. They slide easily in and out of the case over a few original and several replaced interior case runners, these nailed to the case from the inside. The drawers are divided by drawer blades with raised edges to simulate cockbead molding, affixed into the sides of the case on either end with open dovetails; as economical craftsmen, only a few inches of mahogany line the front of the drawer blade, which is backed by several inches of pine. The interior is somewhat typical of the region. Having a stepped interior with a central half-shell carved drawer over a conforming blocked front drawer flanked by document drawers and three pigeon-hole letter compartments. The outer pigeon-hole valances are actually hidden drawers, each crafted with uncompromising workmanship of tiny dovetails to match the other drawers.
