This is a veryy sweet old Staffordshire miniautre porcelain figurine. Dogs(poodles) on a blue pillow. They have darling little faces. It is tiny, pillow measures 2-1/2" X 1-3/4" Height is 2-1/4" tall. Condition: There are three flaws. A tiny chip on front corner of pillow(lower left) and a chip on the back of the blue pillow(Measures 1/4" There looks like another one on the dogs hip that is laying down-could be a factory flaw but I am not sure-never noiticed till now(see last three pictures) It is still a wonderful piece! This is a very fine Ralph Wood Staffordshire figure titled on base"Virgin Mary" It dates to 1790 and is to be featured in an upcoming book on early Staffordshire. There has been no restoration and none is needed. there is a tiny scuff on the front left corner of the square base. But there are no other problems. This rare piece is 9.5" high and features a beautifully modeled and delicately painted Madonna tenderly holding an infant Jesus. Staffordshire Little Red Riding Hood figure, plus 2nd Red Riding Hood
Staffordshire Little Red Riding Hood figure. Plus 2nd Red Riding Hood This auction includes two antique figurines of the classic children’s book character. Little Red Riding Hood. Both are in great condition. The first figure is Staffordshire and stands 5 1/2 inches tall. She is holding a basket on her left arm. Her face is clear– even her blue eyes are clearly visible. She wears a white dress with stripes of rose. Light blue, and royal blue, and a row of gold raised“buttons. Black shoes and the classic red cloak complete her attire. The cloak is trimmed in gold, but much of that gold has worn off. There are no chips, but as this is an antique, some of the glaze and color has worn off the figure. This can be noted in the photos in the back at the bottom of the cloak. At the top of her cloak, just above her right eye, the paint glaze has come ... moreoff, and you can feel a slight roughness where the white area shows through, in contrast to the smooth feel of the surrounding red cloak. The wolf is curled around her feet. The next to last photo shows the bottom. The bottom is round and hollow about an inch deep. You can see the thick walls of the bottom and the hand-worked look. A slanted H is inscribed on the bottom. The figurine easily stands on her own. The second figure is made of plaster/chalk and stands 4 inches tall. She is painted and holding a basket on her left arm. Her face is clearly and delicately painted. She wears a blue dress. Red shoes, and her iconic red cloak which is trimmed in gold. There are no chips in her, but as she is an antique, some of the paint has faded or worn off. The bottom is flat. The figurine easily stands on her own. Staffordshire Theatrical Figure 8" in Very Good Condition You are bidding on a Staffordshire figure of an actor- possibly from Byron's"The Corsair" dating most likely from 1850-1870. Many Staffordshire figures were based on real-life celebrities of the time and I'm still trying to research the actor and role protrayed in this piece. There are no chips. Cracks or damage and only extremely minimal wear to the paint. Being very, very picky there is a tiny bit of paint loss to the toe of his right shoe and the slightest rub on the top of the orange cape. There is crackling throughout, as seen in many old Staffordshire pieces. The man's tunic is cobalt blue, a feature of Staffordshire figures usually found in pieces made in the 1860's. A good. Early Staffordshire pearlware figure, dating to c.1800. This is a scene from Classical Greek mythology and shows Andromache, at the funeral urn of her husband Hector, the son of Priam, King of Troy. During the siege, Hector had been killed by the Greek hero Achilles. Measuring 9.25" high and in good condition for an early figure of this type. There is an old chip to the tip of her right thumb, and there is a glaze blemish and scuff on her left arm. There is also some typical paint flaking, to the base, and the trunk, at the rear.

A Rare Staffordshire-like Antique Earthenware Figure of Wombwell’s Menagerie
George Wombwell was England’s premier menagerist. Shortly after 1800. Wombwell began to exhibit exotic creatures bought from incoming ships. His admission fees turned a decent profit. So he began to show his creatures all over England. His traveling menagerie became world famous. And thus prompted Staffordshire potters to create and market replicas of his show front with all the appropriate souvenir icons. I have termed this a Staffordshire-like figure. There are no specific marks to prove a genuine Staffordshire provenance. It may be just a later reproduction. But regardless still has considerable age as a genuine antique, likely c.1830. The price reflects the uncertainty of its origin. There is but one casualty in the antique piece– the left forearm of the woman on the front steps is missing. Fortunately. However, the piece is so very busy ... moreand so colorful that it was several months before I even noticed the missing bit. All other elements are intact as original. It is truly a conversation piece to end all conversation pieces. The fact that the piece is based on a real person and a real menagerie makes it even more desirable as evidence of a little piece of English history. Fabulous Smuggler Will Watch Staffordshire Character Figure. Guns& Pantaloons! Presented is a fabulous Staffordshire character figure of“Will Watch” A legendary English smuggler about whom a famous English folk song was written in the early 19th century entitled, Will Watch. The Bold Smuggler” The figure stands at 14 ¾ inches tall. Will is dressed beautifully in primrose colored pantaloons. Pink hose, a classic cream shirt and a cream jacket or coat. A plaid sash is tied around his waist, his boots are lined with a rich orange, and he wears a cream hat with blue and pink ostrich feathers. He holds his musket or rifle and a pistol, with a spare pistol tucked into his sash. Behind him are kegs of something illicit, rum or gunpowder? His name, Will Watch, appears on the front of the pedestal base. The back of the piece is left un-painted. ... moreThe tale of Will Watch is that he was a smuggler who promised his lover that if his next journey was successful. He would mend his ways and“ anchor ashore” But“ in the haze of the night” the authorities catch up with his ship. And Will is shot dead and, in accordance with his wishes, the crew buried him near the beach in the dead of night. Please scroll down to see our photographs. The figure was made in the English Staffordshire potteries in the 1850s to 1880s. The figure is in excellent condition. There has been one small break. Which has been repaired and is barely noticeable. The pistol in his hand broke off and repaired. There is a small arched or U-shaped crack to the front right of the pedestal base. As indicated in one of our photographs. The screw or bolt in the base of the piece has been glued at some time. The piece has some light crazing overall. Otherwise, there are no other cracks, no chips, and no other problems of any kind. Will was a bad lad. But his good-looks and colorful outfit might cut a striking dash in your home! Antique Late 1800's Staffordshire Temperance Double Sided Figure, Water/Gin
This is a wonderful antique piece by Staffordshire of England. The figure is 2 sided with water and gin titles. One side has a young well dressed man with a water canteen. The other side features the same man looking much older in tattered clothing. With a bottle of gin. The moral or message is quite clear, showing how alcohol will corrupt your life. There is no mark on the underside, but I am positive it was made in England for Staffordshire during the temperance movement. In 1876 the British Woman's Temperance Association was formed; and in 1884 the National Temperance Federation was founded. This statue is a result of that movement, and has great historical relevance. It presents in excellent condition despite its great age. There are flaws or defects to speak of. The only very minor thing to mention is a tiny bit of faded paint on ... morethe hand, and hat(photos 3,4, and 8) Otherwise, this figure looks great. It stands 9 and 3/4 in tall, and measures 10 and a 1/2 in all the way around the base. Antique 19th c Staffordshire Greyhound Wippet dog rabbit hare figure figurine
STAFFORDSHIRE WHIPPET DOG& RABBIT(for restoration) This week I am selling an English Staffordshire Whippet dog with a broken hare or rabbit in his mouth. Standing with his four legs on an oval round reddish coloured base. Nice speckled reddish colour of its fur. And the rabbit is speckled brown. It has a dark brown collar around the neck and its tail's end is wrapped around his left hind leg. Some'coleslaw' patches are placed on the base and three stump. Half around the base is a gilt line. Size: Height: 16 cm(6.2 inches) Width: 14 cm(5.5 inches) Condition: Unfortunately half of the rabbit is missing and at its left hind leg there is a hairline crack at two places.
