ANTIQUE GERMAN ERNST BOHNE SOHNE PAGODA NODDER LARGE PORCELAIN MOVING TONGUE
Up for your consideration is this fabulous German Rudolstadt Ernst Bohne Sohne Pagoda Nodder. The nodder is marked with the blue underglaze anchor and the impressed initials EBS. The mark was first used in 1854. The nodder is very detailed and the porcelain is so crisp that the nodder was probably one of the first made by EBS. The flowers. Face, body, shoes and hair are all handpainted. The hair is also etched into the porcelain giving it the look of real hair. The piece is expertly weighted and the hands, tongue and head all move. The nodding really last for quite some time. The nodders were used to warn of an upcoming earthquake from what I've read. The head and hands are removable, but I only removed the head. The head has a heavy brass ball weight held in place with some sort of plaster. There is a sticker that reads"German" ... moreon the bottom of the head over top the plaster. The nodder is in excellent condition with one tiny flake like chip on the bottom lip, but is slight and in my opinion doesn't detract from the piece. There is also a small plaster mark on the left shoulder, I'm sure this was done when the piece was made because its the same type of plaster used on the neck to hold the weight. The nodder is rather large measuring 9-1/4" tall, 9" across and 9" deep(from front to back) The ears are elongated.You don't come across these nodders very often and would make a nice gift for the collector of unusual pieces. The nodder was owned by the descendants of Jefferson Davis and dates to the 19th Century. I do have an original black and white photograph of the nodder in the china cabinet that the nodder was displayed in and the photo dates to the early 1900's. But I believe the nodder is much older and probaby the mid 1800's. The ph oto will be included with the nodder. I've shown the photo in my last picture. Oriental Bisque Porcelain Nodder NRSV
This is a wonderful. Unmarked oriental nodder that is part of my collection that I am beginning to liquidate for an upcoming move. Be sure to checking my listings as I will be putting several more of my nodders for auction in the coming months. This is a very diminuitive nodder.it measures approx. 3 1/4”H x 2 1/4”W x 2 1/2”D. She nods yes very freely. She is an older nodder with the wooden stick that attaches the head to the large weight below. There are no marks on her to indicate origin, most likely German. There are no chips, cracks or repairs. The third picture above shows some sort of black mark on her left cheek.it is not really there! I don't know if it was on my camera lens or what, but rest assured, there is no black mark on her cheek. A beautiful piece! Antique German Bisque Porcelain Hand Painted Cello Musician Nodder Head Figurine
Up for auction is a nice old German bisque porcelain nodder figurine of a cello player wearing wire rim glasses and smoking a pipe. Hand painted cobalt blue on white with gold gilding. Unsigned. But there are some numbers impressed into the bottom portion of the head piece. Nodder shows signs of repair to his collar, along bottom starting from his left foot and extending to the back, small chip to the back of his neck, looks like the original pin holding his head was replaced by a nail. Please see photos carefully for details. Measures about 7 3/4" H x 3 3/8" W x 2 3/4" D. Fresh out of a fine old estate! See my other auctions for more treasures from the same estate!

These nodders are from beginning of the last century. Manufacture is not very well known(you can see the mark on the picture) but the quality is close to Meissen. It is very rare to have a couple. Porcelain Nodder Figurine Victorian Lady antique pair!
A wonderful early Continental Porcelain Bisque Nodder pair- A blonde Victorian Lady. There is great detail to the features and dress. Of superb quality, and although we are unsure of exact maker the quality indicates they it is a product of one of the more premier German makers, possibly Heubach or possibly Minton. The head nodds easily resting at neck line. Both is approximately 6" tall and in good condition with some very light age wear(tiny chip at neck line where one nodder rests) marked on bottom x11 and the noddle head has stamped 2029. Nodding figurines are unique because they have movable parts. The head of a nodder figurine may say“yes. nodding the head forward and back, or it may say“no, moving from side to side. A number of nodders came out of the woodwork during the Victorian Era when the bourgeoisie at last had pocket money ... morefor trinkets and extras. Because Victorians adored and doted on little people and pets, their children, the young, and animals became popular subjects. Nodders from this era were molded in porcelain, bisque or hard paste and today are infrequently found in pairs. Supposedly nodders were created to signal earthquakes because the head would move. It measures 6" tall. 6" long and 5 1/2" wide. The ... moreoutfit is decorated with gold accents& designs on pinks and tan cream colors. The figurine has a nodding front to back head as well as hands that move up and down. It is in as found condition. It has been damaged and repaired in the past. The inside shows the damage but the outside is almost invisible unless you inspect it very closely. The weights on the inside of the nodder parts are replaced and repaired as shown. At some point the figurine was broken around the neck area and glued back, repaired. The pins that hold the pieces in place for nodding also appear to have been replaced. This is a beautiful old piece but it does have some issues as stated. You are buying this nodder figurine as found, with flaws, damage and repairs. Vintage Porcelain Bisque Nodder figurine. Elder Asian Man. Asian nodder figurine
Very innovative design. This vintage porcelain bisque figurine is a very interesting piece. It is a"nodder" figurine. It is unmarked yet likely made in Germany. As many others very similar are. This Asian Elder is in Ceremonial garb and is holding a knife. The"nodding' head is suspended in grooved channels on the base by a rod that goes through his neck and rests on these channels. This gives this vintage piece a very smooth nodding action. The porcelain at the end of the neck is weighted to give a momentum to the nod. Very nice piece, collectible as vintage porcelain, vintage figurine, vintage figurine people and as a"nodder" 6" high assembled. 4 1/4" wide at base.
