GERMAN PORCELAIN MEISSEN / DRESDEN STYLE MONKEY BAND ‘CONDUCTOR’ No 693 c 1880
This‘Monkey Band’ figurine is one of a set of four that I am listing in four separate listings this week. They represent models 693. 694, 695 and 696 in this set. This one bears the underglaze incised number‘693’ on the base. I am listing each one separately in order to give collectors the opportunity to fill in any‘gaps’ in their collection of these figures. But, in each case, I have provided one photo showing all four of these lively musicians so that they can be seen together. The four comprise a flautist, a violinist, a trumpeter and a conductor, all made of heavy hard paste porcelain. The original‘Monkey Bands’ were reputedly first produced by the great Meissen factory about 1753-5 and were the result of a commission given to Meissen’s greatest figure modeller. Johann Kaendler who created a 22 piece‘orchestra’ of these wonderful figures, ... moreeach distinguished with marvellous individuality and wittiness in concept. They were immensely popular and much copied by other porcelain factories right through the 19th Century. I have been informed by a kind fellow eBayer(4/2/13) that these figures are from a Kronach factory in Upper Franconia. Germany, belonging to R& E Pech. I have confirmed that the mark appears on page 273 of Ludwig Danckert's invaluable'Directory of European Porcelain' The date is correct. This one is the‘Conductor’ He is extremely well modelled and painted in fine detail. He is conducting with visible enthusiasm! He carries an underglaze‘blue scissors’ mark. I am much indebted. As always, to Mr Geoffery Godden’s superb“Guide to European Porcelain”1993. On page 98 of that book he illustrates the‘scissors’ mark and reveals that it“occurs on late nineteenth century Dresden-type porcelains such as the Monkey Band’which are almost certainly of German origin” The conductor is beautifully painted in rich enamels. This delightful antique large Dresden porcelain dog stands 14” long. 9” tall and 5” at its widest point. It is ca 1875 and is stamped in blue( Dresden Germany” stamp used 1881) and incised with 5575N. It is in excellent condition! The charming dog features lots of wispy. Curly fur and variegated gray spots. Its eyes are greenish yellow and are lined in dark red. The nose and mouth are painted red surrounded with indications of whisker pits. This is a sweet Meissen porcelain figure of a little girl feeding her chickens. It measures approximately 4 3/4 inches high and is in excellent condition with no chips or repairs. Just a tiny bit of paint wear to the back of her blue bodice. Very minor on display. Marked with impressed numbers and the Meissen crossed swords, a first quality piece. Wonderful for the collector! Kistler Scheibe Alsbach Germany Meissen Dresden Cherub Basket ca.1900
Exquisite antique German porcelain sweetmeat basket has a handle in the shape of a cherub blowing a horn. The free form basket is decorated on the front with a single rose and leaves. The mold is very well detailed and the hand painting exceptional. The basket has a high gloss glaze and the cherub is matte. It stands 5.25" tall and 6.75" long and is in very good condition with the only issue being a some roughness on the rose. Marked GeScheibe-Alsbach Thuringia Germany and Depose. Ca. late 19th to early 20th century.

This is a gorgeous antique Victorian picture frame by Richard Klemm with a lovely floral design center surrounded by a yellow background with hand painted gold gilt flowers and clusters of gold gilt raised dots and a white and gold gilt rococco border. The porcelain is in excellent condition but the back looks to have been replaced with a plywood type backing at some point. Approximately 9 1/2 inches tall and 6 1/2 inches wide. This is a great Old Meissen Ballet dancer Figurine. It is marked Germany and has crossed swords in a blue underglaze. The dress is a beautiful Dresden Lace. She is in great shape except for her 4 fingers on the top hand are chipped. And there is some damage to the front of her dress. It really isn't too noticeable. This is a beautiful figurine. About 6.25 inches to the top of her hand.

Vintage Dresden Alt Meissen Plaques with Marble Bisque Figures Ornate Frames
For Consideration Vintage pair of ALT MEISSEN Art by DRESDEN. These 3-D Raised Porcelain Ceramic Bisque“High Relief” Art Plaques are framed in beautiful ornate frames. The background is a very light pale blue. Written on the back is“The Szene is from Castle-Park of Sanssouci 1750- 1760. The pastoral plays. Performed in the castle-parks of Rococo, where a favourite amusement for grandes Dames and Cavaliers. They were cultivated with spirit and charm and were part of the abundance of the Rococo and of the happy century. There are a total of 5 broken fingers. See photos#5& 6. The musical instrument appears to have been repaired. Other than the conditions mentioned above. They appear to be in very good vintage condition. Dresden Meissen Porcelain German Greek Mythology Figurine with Writer & Putti
This very well detailed figurine of a Greek Mythological writer is holeing a pen in one hand and a putti cherub in the other. It has makrks that I am uaware of possible Dresden or Meissen era. It is mainly white with gold robes. It has a Greek key deign around the base. The figurine measures 9 1/4 inches high. The tip of the pen is missing. Other then that it's in great shape. The last mark is actually white it came out a funny color but it was a close up shot.

Vintage Meissen Dresden style Creamic hand painted cherub figurine
This is a vintage ceramic figurine piece of two cherubs playing a flute and a mandolin on a decorative shell with flowers. Hand painted, great condition no chips or cracks, I think this is a Meissen style or replica piece, there is a mark on the bottom of two crossed swords aver the letter R, this is a similar mark as Meissen but there are a few little differences. Im not sure of the mark, I would think it is either a similar companies mark or is an imitation mark. Piece is about 7 inches tall.

This is a fine early Meissen figure of a lady feeding her cat. The detail is amazing with fine porcelain lace work. Even the cat has on a bonnet! Unfortunately it is damaged in several areas. She has been attached at the waist and her ribbons in back are broken and partially repainted as is the tail of the cat. The spoon in her hand is broken and the base is partially broken and repaired. This is a rare early hand painted porcelain figural grouping of two lovers in a garden with a cherub flying over them. A bust in the background and a dog and two lambs. It bears a very faint blue crossed swords mark on the base. I believe this is an early Meissen piece, please take a look at the pictures. Measures 9 3/4 inches high by 7 inches wide and is heavy weighted. Condition is overall good. There is some damage and restoration. The cherubs one arm has been reattached at the shoulder and he has a repaired bell the little stick to hit in in his other hand is broken. The lady has a broken thumb and end of finger tips, the little dog has only the very end of his one paw chipped. This is a magnificent large porcelain carriage created by the Sitzendorf factory of Germany! It is a stunning piece at 20 inches in length by 11 inches in height and very heavy weighted! Overall condition is excellent/very good considering the size and age of the piece. The crown on the front base has broken off and the reins need to be retied to the driver. Should be very easy as they are flexible. One piece of the pink feather in front of one horse's plume and a few tiny nibbles to the leaves on the base. All very minor in my opinion on display. Beautiful set of Dresden figurines made in Germany I believe by Meissen. A man and lady seated. He plays the flute while she holds the music book. The man seems to be in perfect condition the woman has a broken right thumb and fingers and ruffles on her dress. These are fairly rare.I myself have seen them only once on Ebay in a live auction. I have had them for over twenty years. They would be perfect for a music room. Any Victorian setting or that special person in your life collecting Meissen porcelain figurines. This is a rare huge pair of French porcelain figures.a royal couple dressed beautifully in gilt and hand painted clothing with porcelain lace trim! This is a very large Antique Meissen Dresden Venus& Cupid figurine. Rare 15" tall and absolutely gorgeous. Incredible detailing and colors throughout with outstanding expression and distinct quality associated with Meissen. Near mint condition. Just a bit of paint loss on the head piece(as shown) maybe a few other tiny spots of loss or scratches but not readily found. See photos) No chips. Cracks, flaws or repairs noticed. While this piece is impaired it was made possibly between 1908-1955! The fact that it still exists is a miracle. It was found in the back corner of a TV cabinet of an estate. This is a gorgeous Dresden lace figure of two sisters in beautiful gowns that was created by the Volkstedt factory of Germany! This piece is in overall excellent condition! I usually see this model with much lace missing or broken fingers. This piece has no damage to fingers. Arms, ect and the lace is in overall excellent condition, there is a little chipping to the lace, on the trim to bodices on top, very little chipped lace on the bottom of the gowns. Detailed Hand Painted Antique Figurine You are looking at a figurine of a boy holding a fish. By Ucagco of Japan. It appears to be made of porcelain or bisque or something similar. The figurine is about 8” tall, 4” wide, and 3” deep. This figurine is in EXCELLENT CONDITION. Especially considering the age. I don’t know the exact age, but I am thinking early 1900’s. It does not have any cracks, fixes, chips, or missing pieces that I could find. It is hand painted, and there is one little blop of green paint up by the boy’s collar, but it kind of adds to the uniqueness of being hand painted. Rare Antique Meissen or Dresden Mother Child Baby Figurine Rococco Base Flawless
This is one of the finest porcelain pieces you can imagine. I purchased it about 20 years ago. Tagged as Meissen. I've tried to locate the exact maker mark for many years. It's what appears to be a blue F, underglaze. Then some impressed letters, AaM, I believe. Then below that some impressed numbers. There are no Meissen crossed swords. The figure is in flawless condition, and has been black light tested for any cracks that are naked to the bare eye, there are none. Also, free of any repairs. I've taken the pics with an iPhone, so they simply don't do justice to the piece. The glazing on the porcelain is the best I've seen. The figure is approx. 6 1/2 inches in height. This is a beautiful finely hand painted Meissen porcelain figure of a lovely goddess. I cannot see the blue Meissen crossed swords mark because it may have been worn off. But this is definitely a Meissen piece, and I believe an early one. She is approximately 6 1/2 inches high and displays beautiful. The only flaws I can see are I think both hands have had professional restoration, possibly down the arm on the one in the air. The other looks like only a few fingers. Very well done restoration if so. I see a tiny chip on the underside of her lavender cape in the back, barely noticeable. It's a very unique figurine made to hang on a wall that was surrounded by a all kinds of figurines from Royal Worcester.Daulton and Windsor,Dresden and Meissen and almost every Hummel ever made.It's in a antique frame that's probably older than the figurine.There's no way to get the plaque off without taking a chance on breaking it.I would like to find a makers mark and believe me I've tried.That's why the starting price is were it's at.The plaque is attached to a silk like material then to a board that has a weird loop and nail assembly that attaches it to the frame.I can't find anything quite like it that's both a figurine and wall plaque of this quality.I think it's French porcelain and looks like something Jacob Petit could have done but it's not as ornate as most of his pieces and I think it's ... moreto old to be his.My best guess would be Sevres but it has the same quality you would see from any quality manufacture.The figurine is in excellent condition without any chips or cracks.The gold is worn on the shoes and a couple other places.This frame is really old and has some hairline cracks I've pictured.It measures 17" x 14" and is similar to the frames of the George 111 era.

This Birdbath is from the 1850 handmade in Dresden by Meissen. It had a red felt on the bottom to prevent scratching the cabinet. I took it of to find the Marks. It can be cleaned up totally. There are no broken or chipped parts. It is a pretty piece colors are still good.

Rare Meissen Dresden German porcelain centerpiece victorian cherub compote
Up for grabs is a late 1800's German Porcelain 2 piece compote centerpiece crafted in beautiful Meissen style. Gorgeous Angel with 2 small vases on either side of it and holding up a large compote bowl that is detachable. Colors are still very bright and detail in artwork is stunning! The compote bowl pedestal has been repaired and does not sit quite level in the hole that it goes in but it is beautiful none the less! There are several chips on several of the flowers and one crack repair on top of compote bowl. See pic for that. It is not seen from the front if you set the compote bowl in with crack facing wall. This is in very good condition for the age of it and is a Rare find for Dresden collectors! No mark on bottom of this piece but you can tell by the way it is made that it is an early Dresden. Colorful, antique Continental porcelain figure of a man dressed in 18th century clothing that I believe was made by Meissen or perhaps one of the Dresden Thuringia region porcelain factories. It has part of a blue under glaze mark on the edge of the base in the back that looks like the top of the Meissen crossed swords mark(see 2nd image) Meissen is known to have marked of their figures in this area. If not Meissen my next guess would be one of the other Dresden area factories, however, the weight and"feel" of the piece lends me to believe it is Meissen. If someone who recognizes this particular model would care to share what you know I would enjoy hearing from you. It measures roughly 9 3/4" tall x 3 1/4" in diameter across the base and weighs close to 1 1/2 pounds. The condition is good. He is missing the tips of his pointer and baby fingers on his right hand and there is also a shallow vertical surface chip on the side edge of the base which you can see in the 3rd image. Not sure of the maker. 8 1/2" tall x 14" wide. Very large piece of what I think to be German porcelain. Resembling or even being Meissen or Dresden. You'll have to make the call on this. There is a number on the bottom in red. No factory mark that I can see. Hand painted and exquisitely crafted. Very old 19th century piece. I see three unnoticeable flower petal chips which is common. This piece is alive with vibrant. Soft colors and suberb details. She has delicate little lace points and lace on her bonnet and throughout her outfit. One of the most famous techniques of Dresden artists was something called Dresden lace. To create the illusion of real fabric on figurines of women, decorators would dip actual delicate lace into porcelain slip before applying it by hand to the porcelain figure. The fabric would burn away, when fired in a kiln, leaving a hard but extremely fragile shell of frozen crinoline skirts and billowy material behind.
