Most of our pieces have spent decades on at least two continents. And have been treasured by several owners.  Small splits, scrapes and cracks are a normal part of their patina attesting to their age and extensive use. We examine each piece carefully when we receive it and report any damage we find in our listings. Please look carefully at the pictures which may also reveal condition and damage. Damage/Repair, both legs broken off and repaired. Crack in one side of head and face, Additional Information: This well used sculpture is out of the ordinary when measured to the mainstream of Dogon art. There is no doubt as to its origin among the Dogon however is not illustrated in the literature and due to its unique seated angular shape and its bisexual character. It is unusual and exceptional. Among the Dogon of the Bandiagara escarpment near the Niger River in Mali, art and mythology are often the same, sharing visual images whether carved or spoken of during their rituals. A carving such as this old example of a seated figure representing either an ancestor or primordial being is kept in the lineage elderâs house and is used during annual rites that took place during the winter solstice known as âgoruâ. The figure has a manâs beard and a womanâs breasts depicting a being that is in keeping with Dogon creation myths in which tell that beings were both male and female at one time. The head and headdress are particularly interesting. The sharply carved arms and legs and the shaping of the head and the mass of the upper chest makes this the work of a master carver of some skill. I do believe that the hallmark on the larger pheasant is a tad bit earlier. A Beautiful Pair of Antique Cordey Busts. Included are the Male#5038 and Female#5039. They measure 8" tall and have great details. They come in very nice condition. Two vintage Dresden figurines are a couple so selling together. Male is 7" and woman is 6.5" man is in perfect condition. Woman has four small area of lace damage on back. Lace is remarkably intact though for the amount on this figure. Superb color HANDPAINTED using bright colors.
