Antique Bisque Figurines BOY& GIRL by CARL SCHNEIDER Late 19th Century Germany Up for bid is a pair of antique German bisque porcelain figurines made by the Carl Schneider porcelain factory. One is a boy wearing a Swiss Alpine style hat and back pack. He carries a walking stick in one hand. The other is a little girl with a big bow in her hair. She has long braids down her back and she wears an old fashioned pinafore over her pleated skirt. The fronts of the figures were hand painted; the backs remain plain white. On each figure. The backs of the shoes are marked(impressed) One foot reads: GERMANY and includes the marking of a C with two arrows running through it. The word DEP follows. The other foot/shoe reads with a number code 10644 along with a number 15 and the word GERMANY. ... moreThe marks on theses pieces identify the maker as the Carl Schneider factory and I believe the format dates the pair from some time in the late 19th century(circa 1879 to 1886) Note: the word DEP indicates the piece was Registered. This practice did not start until the year 1879. Both pieces measures approx 8" high. The girl is slightly less and closer to 7 7/8" tall. Condition: Unfortunately the boy has a bit of damage. The upper end of his walking stick has broken off right were it extends from his hand. One has to look closely to notice this. And it is really more noticeable to touch(as it is a little sharper than normal) rather than to the eye. There are no other chips, and NO cracks. There are NO repairs. All the nice detail in bow and hat show no damage. There is obvious color wear, with much of the paint on front being worn off. Finally, when looking very closely at boy's nose one may notice a slight irregularity- this is from when the piece was made and is not damage or wear. A lovers quarrel ... moredepicted at the time as if it were today and things havent changed in the world of courtship. Love never changes. Complex yet beautiful. If you carefully examine this composition you will see that the elegantly stern female has let the love letter of forgiveness gently fall to the ground. The gentleman's expression is that of desperation and bewilderment. His posture and the swaying of the hand. It almost brings a certain sentiment in one. Yet the ensemble is so gracefully hand executed that one knows these two are soul mates as this figural is in incredible condition for its age. The lace work is about 97% intact( I have taken several close photographs for your observation) The lacework which is thin actual cloth that was dipped in porcelain and baked was an invention from Dresden that spread throughout Germany. It is all hand painted and accented with real 22 K gold paint. Large and heavy. Measures 12" long x 9" deep and 10" tall. This item will require extra materials for safe delivery. Logo on the bottom. Late 19th century French bisque statue. Figurines of a woman and child. This piece is in excellent condition for its age. The colors and detail are perfect. Some gold detailing on the base has faded. It appears the woman held something in her right hand at one time. The piece has broken off. Her hand is intact and perfect. The other condition issue is a small chip on the inside, top of her hat. The piece is marked. The marking is located near the chip on her hat on the inside. Please see photos. It measures 10 inches tall. 7 inches across at the widest(across the child and stump) The base measures 7.25 inches by 5.75 inches- oval.

The paper you see in front of it is a note that was stuck inside that reads"match holder out of an old estate over 100 years old" I bought the match holder at an estate sale. Who was the author of the note(and she was old when she passed away, so, the piece is from the late 1800's) It is in excellent condition with no chips or cracks. The basket has raised weave so it acts as a striker also. It stands 5 1/2" tall. On the bottom is an old piece of tape with some partial letters on it. As far as I know it is not marked as to maker. The nest base is glazed porcelain. Both lid and base are marked with a hand lettered number 48. This is an old piece; you can see the marks of fingers on the underside of the lid. One of the porters glances over his shoulder and eave drops on the lovers. The other porter relaxes with a snort of brandy while a faithful hound is curled up next to the sedan chair.
