I was recently contacted by an Ebayer from Germany who told me this pair of Piano Babies bears the makers mark of Carl Schneider. These were made in Germany in the mid to late 1800's. Two of the leading manufacturers were Gebruder Heubach and Carl Schneider. These are in what I would call Very Good Condition for their age. They measure approx. 5& 5 ½’ High. Her hair shows waves.it has small lines to indicate hair,her back hair has a bun coiled neatly on the back of her head. Her dress is detailed with a small ribbon on her shoulder. Her face is a nice shape. Ears well done, mouth closed,no smile, eyes blue Her nose is damaged and always been that way since I've had her. She has had her neck repaired. She is heavy. Weighs 5lbs. I am totally in love with this sweet little girl figurine. I have to part with her as I am a mom of a college student now. Expenses galore! I have had her for quite awhile and recently acquired some information from an antique appraiser to find out more about her. Vintage Porcelain Dog Guarding Basket of 3 Pigs# 2501 Germany late 1800-1900's made approx late 1800's to early 1900. The blue bow around his neck is a lighter blue. The pigs have gold gilding and may be a little light. Although i have seen some like this and one with a full covering of gold. His nose is light on the black. The eyes are so penetrating. Serious business here. Basket has green leaves on it and base has a weave pattern. Looks like a large poodle, but I am sure it is a rare breed. I see no damage or repairs. It is made all in one piece. Needs a soft toothbrush to gently clean it up. Sitting on a orange base. Came from a estate. stands about 7 1/4 tall. 6 3/4 long and is 3" wide. hollow form you can see the numbers okay, but there is a circle that is above that, you can't make anything out. insured. Antique Late 1800's Staffordshire Temperance Double Sided Figure, Water/Gin
This is a wonderful antique piece by Staffordshire of England. The figure is 2 sided with water and gin titles. One side has a young well dressed man with a water canteen. The other side features the same man looking much older in tattered clothing. With a bottle of gin. The moral or message is quite clear, showing how alcohol will corrupt your life. There is no mark on the underside, but I am positive it was made in England for Staffordshire during the temperance movement. In 1876 the British Woman's Temperance Association was formed; and in 1884 the National Temperance Federation was founded. This statue is a result of that movement, and has great historical relevance. It presents in excellent condition despite its great age. There are flaws or defects to speak of. The only very minor thing to mention is a tiny bit of faded paint on ... morethe hand, and hat(photos 3,4, and 8) Otherwise, this figure looks great. It stands 9 and 3/4 in tall, and measures 10 and a 1/2 in all the way around the base. This piece is a great example of older English porcelain, the condition is great and it will display beautifully wherever it is placed. Collectors and enthusiasts of antique English figurines be thrilled to own a piece such and this one.
