Old Paris-Jacob Petit Porcelain Vase with Doves-Early 19th Century(1830-1860)
Beautiful vase in mint condition made by the distinguished porcelain maker Jacob Petit(1830-1860) Depicting a pair of doves. One sitting in her nest with eggs and the other standing in a bark. Great colors all around the piece, has a scroll base which makes it very rococo style typical of the Jacob Petit factory. It is gilded on its base and also inside the vase. This is an extremely rare piece to find and its around 180 years old. This is not a reproduction, guaranteed to be original. Its got its original blue stamp under the base and measures 7.5 in height and the base diameter is 5 in. This vase is made of heavy porcelain. Buyer pays shipping costs and insurance. Celadon and amaranth- Petit was a master colorist who worked as a painter at the prestigious Sevres factory before opening his own porcelain factoy. A beautiful and quite intricate cut-work border made to look like carved(faux) ivory in the Chinoiserie style. I have read that Petit loved the challenge of technically difficult cut-work such as this coupled with deep bas relief carvings. Exuberant gold scroll work and beading. A fleur-painted tray to hold jewelry or other small treasures. With holes in the dragon's back for brooches or necklaces. And a scallop shell to hold a pocket watch so that the dragon's ... morebody will beautifully"frame" the clock; the dragon's mouth is open to hold that most special gem. A ring perhaps. Over 100 lovely hand-painted flowers. And once again. That wonderful trim. Let's look at it from a"new" perspective: Aha! When we look at it this way. We can see the carvings are ram's heads- that is pretty neat; rams are a traditional Chinese symbol for good fortune, luck and prosperity. The Chinese used to put ram's heads on roof tiles to render the dwelling lucky. The ram's head in Chinese art is often reduced to a simple geometric form so that it almost goes unnoticed by the unknowing eye. And indeed I almost missed these little fellows. Thus the lucky rams on the rim of this piece assist the fierce dragon in providing protection to the owner's jewelry. The dragon is a central symbol in Chinese art. There is old restoration to the collar and hands of the figure with no hair. And a slightly chipped neck to the figure with brown hair. The figure with brown hair has a repaired and repainted hand. The figure without hair also has repairs to the hand and loss of some paint, as well as a re-glued chip to the base. There is restoration and tape to both stoppers and rubbing to gold and paint throughout. Of a well-dressed man holding a basin, raised on an ornate pedestal and surrounded by beautiful flowers. The basin itself would have been used to hold mustard, sauce, or salt, but the piece is attractive enough to be displayed without holding anything. The painting is exquisitely done, with bright fresh colors on the flowers and great details on the young man's face and clothing. The basin and the pedestal are ordained with gilt and cobalt swirls. Overall this is a very heavy and well-made, gorgeous porcelain work. The piece dates to circa the 1850s, and is by Jacob Petit, whose works are well respected and sought out today. There are some chips to some of the flowers which can be seen in the photos. But no more than would be expected given the age of the piece and the comparative fragility of the flowers. There is a split and some irregularity to the glaze on the underside of the piece, as shown in the photos, however this is original to the piece and likely a result of the manufacturing process, and does not effect the structural integrity. It's a very unique figurine made to hang on a wall that was surrounded by a all kinds of figurines from Royal Worcester.Daulton and Windsor,Dresden and Meissen and almost every Hummel ever made.It's in a antique frame that's probably older than the figurine.There's no way to get the plaque off without taking a chance on breaking it.I would like to find a makers mark and believe me I've tried.That's why the starting price is were it's at.The plaque is attached to a silk like material then to a board that has a weird loop and nail assembly that attaches it to the frame.I can't find anything quite like it that's both a figurine and wall plaque of this quality.I think it's French porcelain and looks like something Jacob Petit could have done but it's not as ornate as most of his pieces and I think it's ... moreto old to be his.My best guess would be Sevres but it has the same quality you would see from any quality manufacture.The figurine is in excellent condition without any chips or cracks.The gold is worn on the shoes and a couple other places.This frame is really old and has some hairline cracks I've pictured.It measures 17" x 14" and is similar to the frames of the George 111 era.

For some reason the Ebay U.K. site filters from view the posting of sales by U.S. sellers containing the names of some of the better and more highly collectable English and German porcelain companies. I don't know why this is. However, I do ship worldwide so you are welcome to bid on any of the items. Offered in this sale is a pair of BIG antique Paris porcelain figural perfume bottles modeled in the form of a Sultan and Sultana that ... morewere likely made by Jacob Petit in France in the earlier 1800s. They are not marked. They measure roughly 11" tall x 5 1/2" wide and weigh close to 3 1/2 pounds each. Other than the fact that the stopper on the Sultan has been glued in place and some light wear to the gold gilt on both. The condition of both pieces is excellent. There are remarkably no chips, cracks, flakes, hairlines or restoration. All of the fingers and delicate parts are in tact, undamaged and free of any restoration.
