Both pieces are signed by the artist. The variety of colors and minute details are outstanding. The figures are made of bisque porcelain, standing on a base of glazed white porcelain with gilt trim. These are early 1950’s-1960’s works. They have been in my mother’s collection for many years, but due to a need to down-size, these marvelous pieces of art are being offered for sale now. They are in very good condition. In fact, they could be described as in excellent condition, except for one small flaw. The trimmed grape vine against which the woman is leaning has one tiny piece of stalk broken off. Since it is on the back of the figurine, it is not noticeable. All the remaining delicate fine details are intact. The male figure measures 10” tall by approximately 2.5” diameter at the base and 3.25” across from arm to arm. The female is 9.5” tall by 2.5” diameter at the base, and 3” across from the left arm to the right elbow. Paypal is the only payment method I accept. It is the safest way to pay for purchases. The lifelike detail is overwhelming. The jovial Bacchanalian scene consists of 7 figures laughing and frolicking. The overglaze is baked to perfection giving a stunning wet. Cream-like appearance throughout the whole scene, done in vivid, bright colors. The gilted items are also greatly detailed and have a satin-like finish matching the beautifully crafted border. Notice the figures have highly detailed fingers and toes with toenails. There are a couple of areas with very minor chips, the Cherub in the back has part of two fingers missing and the lady in yellow has part of two toes(on the raised foot) missing, there might be tiny leaf tips chipped, as well. Othere than these, the piece is in excellent condition and none of the condition issues mentioned are visible from the front area. Measurements are 15" high by 11 1/2" wide. I believe this piece to be quite scarce. This would be one of Cappe's grandest works. We had this piece in white and I must say that to see it with the beautiful colors and skill of the painter, this piece really comes to life, it is masterfully done with tight detail in every little area you look. There are a couple of areas with very minor chips, the Cherub in the back has part of two fingers missing and the lady in yellow has part of two toes(on the raised foot) missing, there might be tiny leaf tips chipped, as well. The Gossips Giuseppe Cappe Capodimonte Collectible Antique Decorative
From a recent estate auction– the man who owned the items had been an antique collector for years. This is a beautiful decorative figurine called“The Gossips” by Giuseppe Cappe. It’s so well done and in excellent condition. It stands about 6” tall and is about 4.5” across at the bottom. I don’t see any cracks or crazing. But there are 2 tiny white spots on the greens in the woman’s basket that I think are chips– I tried to show this in the photos. According to the book I have. The mark means it was made at the Royal Factory in Naples, Italy between 1771-1807. The factory was then sold to Jean Poulard Prad et Cu, working at Capodimonte until 1834.
