Antique Large Copeland Parian Bisque figural Mother and Child Staffordshire
We are pleased to offer this beautiful antique Parian bisque figural group depicting a mother and child. Possibly Copeland or another of the top quality English manufacturers. In excellent condition. However the finger and childs toy may have been repaired as they are showing a slightly different color. Measures about 12 inches tall, and the base measures 9 5/8 by 6 inches. The porcelain is slightly translucent when held to the light and has a very smooth polished finish. As found in a local estate and part of a collection of parian which was de accessioned in the late 1990's from the Bennington museum. It is unsigned but we believe it was made by Copeland. It dates from the mid. to 3rd quarter of the 19th century and measures approximately 14 + 7/8 inches at it's highest point. 10 + 3/8 inches at it's widest point, and 4 + 1/2 inches acros the base. Large Copeland Girl Parian Porcelain Figurine Statue Presented is an old parian figurine probably made by Copeland of England during the mid 1800s. The small statue is in the form of a young woman feeding some small birds attached to the base. She is wearing a simple dress and carrying a basket of fruit. This is a very detailed figurine. The craftsmanship is fantastic. There has been a few professional repairs over painting is visible on the back of the hair. On some of her back including the back of one of the arms, on the back of her dress and one side of the palm tree base. The base itself has also been overpainted. The underside of base is visible, if flipped upside down, but I can see no repairs from the underside. This piece might have been attached to a wooden ... morebase and mounted as a lamp at one time, which could explain the over painting on the base. We are selling this piece in AS IS condition. The title is"Infancy of Jupiter" and the sculptor was Raphaelle Monti. This large figure dates from 1871. The infant Jupiter is seated on the lap of Amalthea. With a goat by their side. It is so finely detailed, every time I look at it I notice another delicate detail. Please excuse the reflections in the pictures. SIZE: The figure is 20 inches tall and weighs 13 pounds. CONDITION: The figure is in excellent condition. There are a few firing lines(manufacturing flaws) one on the base between the goat's front legs. One on her right wrist, one between her right upper arm and body. There is the tiniest pin prick on the sole of her sandal underneath her left big toe. Pair Victorian Copeland Parian Figures Farmer with Sickle Playing Instrument& Maiden with Tambourine and Grapes 11½ inches For your consideration are a pair off late 19th century Copeland Parian Figures. The figures are of a Farmer and Maiden seated on a similar rock base playing instruments. The male figure depicts a farmer in traditional costume playing an pipe instrument. While seated on a rock. By the feet of the farmer is a sickle, bundle of wheat and a jug. The female figure depicts a lady in traditional costume holding a tambourine on her lap and seated on a keg of grapes on a rocky base. Both figures measures 11½ inches Condition: Farmer Figure: There is some damage to this piece in that the pipe instrument is missing two of its pipes. There are also some scratches to right hand though all fingers are intact. There is ... morealso a very minor hairline to the base. Maiden Figure: The only condition issue of note is a break to the back of the maiden’s headwear. As you can see she displays beautifully and while the break is unfortunate it is not in an obvious visible place. There is also a very minor hairline to the base. Both figures have the impressed Copeland mark on the base. There is also a handwritten name and initials that are faded and I cannot make out to the Maiden figure. Very RARE LARGE Parian Porcelain"Wood Nymph" by Charles Bell Birch 1866 This is one of the very highest quality examples of Parian porcelain at its BEST. The details are simply breathtakingly REAL. And because it is uncolored this is an incredibly masterful feat to achieve! Birch was a MASTER modeler for sure, and this piece is so fine it appears to be marble. This is also a very LARGE example of the model. Standing 21" high, and it weighs a substantial amount as it is SOLID. Just look at the amazing detail. Even her fingernails are finely sculpted! Slip Cast Near Mint Condition A Copeland Parian bust of“Purity” modeled by the famous sculptor Matthew Noble. Facing right holding a lily on her breast, her left hand resting on a flowering tree stump. Stands on a round socle. c.1864 COPELAND Parian Bust QUEEN VICTORIA& PRINCE ALBERT Antique Porcelain Offered for sale is this pair of antique Copeland parian busts. Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. They are dated 1864 and where modeled by W. Theed. They are both mounted on waisted socle bases, both of which are marked"Crystal Palace Art Union" SIZE: They are approximately 13 inches tall. CONDITION: There are some nibbles at the connecting point between the bases and busts. He has some tiny nibbles near the bottom of his cloak- the pen is pointing to these in the close up pictures. There are some typical firing flaws and residue in the porcelain- some black specks most obvious on his right shoulder, and firing line between his right nostril and mustache. Alexandra. Princess of Wales as Mary, Queen of Scots- rare Copeland Parian figure from 1880 This exceptionally well-modeled English parian figure was made by Copeland. One of the leading manufacturers of the statuary porcelain, after the original sculpture by Louis Auguste Malempré. Originally issued in 1879, this figure was cast in February 1880, as indicated by the date mark"F 80. This piece is listed in the books The Parian Phenomenon(fig. 547) and Parian: Copeland's Statuary Porcelain(fig. S103) It is exceptionally rare. I have been collecting parian for four years and have only seen it available four times-and I have two of them. In fact. That is the only reason I am selling this one. Otherwise, I would not part with such a beautiful, hard-to-find piece. There are no recent auction records for this figure. Which attests ... moreto its scarcity. It depicts Alexandra. Princess of Wales in costume or"fancy dress" as Mary, Queen of Scots for the Waverley Ball. Held in July 1871 in the Willis's Room in King Street, St. James's, London, in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the birth of Sit Walter Scott. Princess Alexandra(1844-1925) was a beloved figure in Victorian England. Kind, generous, and fashionable, she was the Diana, Princess of Wales of her day. She became Queen when her husband, Edward VII, ascended the throne following Queen Victoria's death in 1901. Alexandra can be seen in costume in photograph 12(not included in this auction) and the hummingbird fan she is holding can be seen in the Royal Collection at this link: This parian figure is 14.5 inches tall. 5 inches wide, and 6 inches deep. It is in near perfect condition, with no chips, cracks, losses, stains, or restorations. The only issue to note are two minor firing flaws. Behind her right ear and neck is some fine crazing(see photo 10) And the same can be found in a fold on her dress on her right side(see fold that begins in the bottom middle of photo 11, and extends towards the upper right corner of the image) The
