The male and female figures are both seated upon a stump and are embracing a flowering vine. Each figure is displayed on a rococo scroll base applied with moss and flower blossoms. The wine colored paint and the blue flowers and sash complement each other well. The green leaves and moss provide a pleasant backdrop for the yellow. Blue and pink flowers. Both figures are in a relaxed position, seemingly enjoying the day. Overall. The figures are in good condition considering their age. The female's arm is broken off, but is included in this sale and can be easily repaired. The flower on her head has been ... morereapplied and her hair has been repainted. A flower has been painted on her head to no doubt cover up a chipped area where a wreath was probably attached in the past. Both bundles of flowers have been completely broken off in the past and then glued back on. Both bases have had one leg break off and be repaired. The single leg and the underside of the bases has been repainted. Both figures have some leaf tips and flower petals that are broken; some edges have been painted so the chips are less noticeable. The bust is marked on the reverse"J& T B" which is the mark for the manufacturer James and Thomas Bevington,Burton Place Works, Hanley, Staffordshire Potteries with a date of 1865-1878. It is also marked"Burns" on the back along with an indistinct model number. The bust is 9" tall with a 3" base diameter. The item is in excellent condition.

Rare Set of 4 18th Century English Bow China Soft Paste 4 Seasons Figures No Res, I have been fortunate enough to have purchased this group of four soft past 18th century porcelain figures by the Bow porcelain works of England. The figures represent the four seasons. Each is of a cherub like figure with the appropriate accoutrement's for the season he represents. The figures each measure approximately 7 1/2 inches or 19 cm tall. Each of the figures sits on an elaborate base. The bases are decorated with many applied flowers. Fruits and other vegetation. Spring holds a basket of flowers. Summer a basket of grapes. Fall harvesting wheat and winter trying to warm himself with a brazier. The porcelain is also decorated in parts with applied gold. Besides their rarity what helps set these figures apart is their condition. There are some minor ... morelosses to the flowers leaves etc but overall these figures are in a condition rarely found. Believed to be examples of late eighteenth-century British porcelain Produced in the Derby factory between 1780-1810. Possibly as late as 1830s. Various publications have differing dates of production. Over the years several versions of the figurines were produced. The rectangular base with chamfered corners and fluted edges was first used in 1780s. Shakespeare's elbow rests on stack of books. His right leg crossed over left leg. The figurine of Shakespeare is based on the life-size marble statue by Peter Scheemakers in the monument Designed by William Kent. Erected in Poets's Corner in westminster Abbey in 1740.
