Auger shells(Terebridae) are long. Slender shells with numerous whorls and a short aperture. They are ornamented with axial ribs, spiral cords and beads. The ornament that is most pronounced is at the suture. The outer lip is simple, with a prominent fold on the columella. Terebridae have short, straight or recurved, siphonal canal, and the operculum is thin and variably shaped. They are carnivorous and sand dwelling. The radula and poison gland are similar to those of cone shells, but no venomous sting has been recorded. Most are tropical sand dwellers. This gorgeous shell is a Terebra maculata. They are large, thick heavy shells, with a smooth and glossy outer shell. They are creamy white with two spiral rows of axial, round blobs and streaks. It can be found in the Indo-Pacific.
