There is a key provided for the desk portion which just aids in opening the desk and doesn't work the lock.The bookcase portion offers three adjustable shelves that each measure 41 1/2 inches wide by 9 inches deep which provides ample display opportunities for books and collectibles.This secretary breaks down into two pieces for easier handling during shipping and moving. This Victorian secretary has a commanding presence and is full of character and features an abundance of fine details. Painted Pine Victorian Cottage Bed, Landscape Scene + original owners' portraits
We don't list a lot of furniture on eBay. So I'm not sure where to start with this painted pine bed, with its unusual center panel folk art painting of a waterfront scene. It is certainly one of the finest examples of 19th century cottage furniture that we have ever seen, and the landscape painting is an unusual feature on the headboard, where it is much more common to see floral displays. To add to its interest and value, we not only have the bed’s provenance, we also have the portraits of the original owners, from whose family these items were acquired about 30 years ago. Let's start with the history. Then. The original owners of the bed were Rev. Samuel Belyea, of Acton, Maine, and his wife, Abigail. According to the family account we were given, the bed was one of the Belyeas' wedding gifts, but unfortunately we don't ... moreknow when they got married. The Belyeas were reportedly distant relatives of David Adjutant, the current or recent county manager of York County. Maine, from whom we bought the bed back in the early 1980's. The story goes that the Belyeas had several children, then Abigail died in a subsequent childbirth. Unable to cope with the children as well as his fulfil his obligations for the church, Rev. Belyea promptly delegated the kids' upbringing to an aunt and uncle, in order to devote his full attention to the Lord's work. Again, the dates of all this are uncertain. Now let's give you some measurements. It is 76" long and 56" wide. The headboard is about 59" tall. And the footboard 29-1/2" The headboard panel with the landscape painting is 23" wide and 12-1/2" tall. The opening for the mattress is about 73" x 53" which means it's a tight fit for a full or double size mattress. If you come across one of those old wooden-framed stretched-spring box springs, that's probably the right size, and then you can put a full size mattress on top of it. This is the first trade card for a mattress. This ad is unusual for a trade card as the couple are sharing a bed. Also they are having a short conversation about the comfortable mattress. The Keystone Roll Up Mattress. Well into the 1960's American television laws did not allow a married couple to be in the same bed. This card was probably printed over 80 years before that law was changed in the United States. In other words the Victorian era wasn't as prudish as when many Americans, ages 50-70 grew up. The image is reasonably well illustrated in black and white. The back has extensive information about he company that was based in Erie, Pennsylvania. This card was given to a company in Springfield, MA that sold the mattress. This card is good sized and in good overall condition. This is an antique copper bed warmer. Believed to have been created circa early 1900's. The handle is 24 inches in length and constructed of very hard wood and brass connector cuffs, the brass cuff that holds the two turned handle sections together is wobbly and needs to be tightened) But I will leave that to the buyer. There is a hoop at the end used for hanging when not in use. The pan is 9" in diameter and 2 inches deep. There is a beautifully ornate brass Victorian lid hinge that is loaded with patina. This is antique jacket is from the Victorian Era. The garment is in remarkably beautiful condition considering its age. It is an excellent piece of history. And still wearable as is! The fabric shows very few signs of wear. Which include a few very tiny and very pale spots on the garment on the front, shoulders, and on a small area of the lace trim, and on the back of the garment near it's center. There are some tiny loose threads underneath the left sleeve and a pin hole on the collar. The lace on the collar also has some loose threads. The reverse side of the jacket has very minor pilling as well. The jacket is an excellent piece of history and can still be worn if one so desires. There are 2 hidden buttons on the upper portion of the garment. The letters"C. T 1" are embroidered on the lower right hand side of the garment ... morein exquisite detail. Circa 1860– 1880, which boasts a single tier structure with a triple carved floral panel(a sign of good quality) and spindle headboard. Towards the top the headboard sits an open fretwork dome. Further above. Sits an intricately carved imperial lion and unicorn crown, which is flanked by floral detail. The footboard also features turned beaded spindles below a barley twist shaped footboard rail. Above the bed frame. The barley twist tapered posts support a protruding beaded canopy. There are very pretty floral motifs sitting at the top of the posts. This bed has a dark finish to the original polish; it is similar to ebony. This bed would look very good in either a contemporary or traditional setting. Here is a very old antique bed. I don't know much about this bed. Except my mother bought it from an elderly English couple in the eary 60's. They said they brought it over from England. I'm not sure about the age or material. I'm guessing it's over a hundred years old. And I was told it's mahogany, but I can't be sure. Dimentions are; Headboard height. 90 inches, footboard height, 33inches. bedframe, 77 inches long, 60 inches wide. Footboard was broken off. And was repaired by screwing on a piece of plywood on back, as you can see from photo. Otherwise in good condition considering its age. Bed is being advertised locally. So auction may end early. These spread are magnificent and belong in a episode of"Downtown Abby" They are linen and have a crochet panel down the center and the bottom and sides have a crochet fringe. The are all hand made and have initials hand embroidered on them. One is MAM and the other is E( M. I forget the middle initial) They came from an estate with a Victorian linen lot. I did wash the and lightly press them even though the appeared to have been professionally cleaned. This allowed me to have a close look at the condition and the faded blood stains were discovered at that time and nothing else was. I have pictured them so that you can see the size clearly. Perhaps someone knows how to remove these. I have priced them very low because I feel the stain and the initials might put folks off. METAL VICTORIAN CHEVAL MIRROR TO GO WITH IRON BED
Up for your consideration is a Victorian cheval mirror that would look wonderful with an iron bed. I have never seen another cheval mirror like this one. I used it for 25 years with my iron bed before I sold the bed back to the family from whom I purchased it. The replacement bed is a federal cherry bed. So the mirror no longer matches. Hate to see it go, but it is time. It is painted yellow over white, with losses to the yellow, which gives a wonderful shabby look. The piece stands 66 inches tall and 25 inches wide. I believe the mirror is original, but can’t say for certain. I prefer local pickup, but will cooperate with buyer’s shipper.

We are so excited to offer the most unusual Victorian style bedroom suite we’ve had in a long time. It’s from the Victorian age. In nouveau ... morestyle, a most unusual color wood, and it comes with two oversized twin beds that can be made into a king size bed if desired, an extra large triple beveled glass vanity, a five-drawer tall swell front extra large beveled glass gentleman’s chest, and an oversized four-drawer bow front chest with the largest beveled glass mirror you’ve seen in a long time. The wood looks like mahogany, in a light brown finish, and is all original except for the tops of the three case pieces, which we re-sprayed. The whole bed has gold carvings on it, accented, and every piece of the set has gold edging highlighted on all the grooves, moldings, crests, and carvings, right down to the flute style finials. The set is just of unbelievable quality, with everything extra large, well built, and the best that was offered at the time. The cast brass hardware is thick and bold, the escutcheons are amazing, and on the entire set, there are two replacement bales. The back plates are still original, and no one will ever notice. There have been a few touch ups here and there, and there are age marks, nicks and dings, but nothing serious, but showing that the set is from the 1880s or‘90s.
