someone has been bugging me to list this twin bed set for 3 or 4 years so i consented to do so the other day when he called. doubtful he will buy them. But they are offered for sale at this time. this is what is known as a show stopper. i have been piddling with antiques for nearly 50 years and have never seen or owned a better twin bed set. here we have an r j horner twin bed set created by horner in his french style. they are of course mahogany with the finest grain you will ever find on a furniture piece of mahogany. the beds are thick, that is the head and foot board. they have wonderful form and beauty and are as you can see carved to death. the high boy as you also see matches the beds. the high boy is just the very best and will take your breath away. it is serpentine in the front as well as the sides. the beds have high dollar box ... moresprings and mattress. they do not go with the set, but i would sell them at a very discounted price. i have about 1000 each in the box springs and mattress including the comforter set. i would sell them for 300 each if someone buys the set and wants them. to my knowledge no one has ever slept on them. i have 8 bedrooms up stairs and really don't have many overnighters and i don't remember them ever being used. at any rate, should you buy the set, these can go with it for 600.00 on top of the sale price of the set. i have the box springs and mattress sitting on slats that attach to the bed rails, should you want the top of the mattress lower, the box spring and mattress can rest on the floor between the rails and lower the top about 10 inches. the mahogany grain on the beds and high boy is not to be surpassed, it is the very best. the condition of the set is mint, but i can't say mint because it is over 120 years old and must have a few little bumps and bruises here and there but none noticeable. it is museum quality however. the rails fit into the head and foot boards with dowels and are then bolted together within the rails and it is as solid as ever and does not wi

FANTASTIC AMERICAN GOTHIC CROTCH MAHOGANY 4 POST BED CIRCA 1850 BEAUTIFUL
This is a wonderful American Gothic style mahogany and crotch mahogany 4 post bed circa 1850. The headboard slides into hooks that attach to the tall head post. This is a very impressive bed with the head post measuring 83" tall and 16" around. They are octagon shaped. The headboard itself is a little lower than the post measuring 78" high. The overall width is 62" from post to post and the headboard is 49" wide. The bed is 79 1/2" long. The foot post are 57 1/2" tall and octagon shaped also at 16" round. A full size mattress and boxspring fits the bed nicely. A good thing about the bed is that the bottom of the boxspring is 17" off the floor and the top of the mattress is 35" from the floor. I like mattresses that sit high off the floor. There is one flaw that can be seen in the photos. For ... moresome unexplained reason the left headboard gothic point has pulled back from the headboard. It is made in one piece with the headboard meaning it does not come off like a finial. I have no idea how this could have occured. It was like this when I bought it. It dosn't bother me but the flaw needs to be disclosed. The finish appears to be original so there are some scuffs and nicks as seen in the pics. The bed breaks down into 9 pieces for easy transport. Bedding and mattress are not included in the sale. The bed is most likely one of the best we have ever owned. It could be as early as Napoleon III.But more like from the end of the late 1800's or 1900. The quality, design and construction of this bed suggest that a furniture maker such as Paul Sormani, Henry Dasson or Francois Linke; the bed is of this quality. One example is in the detail, expense and pride of construction. With special note to the bronze trim. The bronze is not solid, but is wrapped on wood trim then pressed and conformed to shape; it is just amazing. There are 4 different shapes and sizes. The gorgeous mahogany wood has a subtle grain pattern with a mellow patina. The color is magnificent and allows the trim to stand out. A full-size poster bed, an oversized shapely carved Chippendale mirror that is about three times the usual size, and an unusual six-drawer bow front low chest. The two dressers are both bow front, in Hepplewhite style with the high French Hepplewhite foot, carved columns coming down both sides, with oval panels cut out, and retain their original brass hardware from the‘40s on all the dovetail drawers. They have panel sides, and are in overall great shape. The bed and the two dressers have been re-sprayed to remove the nicks and dings from the tops and to show off the gorgeous grains of the mahogany used. The mirror is all original. Antique Twin Bed, Walnut Mahogany w/newer poplar extra long rails
For sale is a beautiful traditional style antique twin bed with classic turned posts and two shades of wood on the headboard and footboard. It may be a combination of walnut and mahogany or two shades of the same wood. I refinished it many years ago and applied two or more coats of Formby's low gloss tung oil to give it a nice satin finish. The side rails were made when the bed was restored in extra long(80 inches) to accomodate a tall son. But could be shortened. They are of poplar and stained to match the bed. The condition is very good for an old bed. There is a crack about one third across the footboard panel(shown in pic. 6) and a portion of the ball finial on the post on that side of the footboard is missing(pic 7) They are not great detractions from the bed overall. The original rails were probably sleigh bed style and there is ... morea cut out in each post above where the rails attach that was probably to accomodate this design. See pic 11. There is additional room for a mattress on the inside when measured across the end bolt supports and from end to end where the finished mahogany begins. The bed is over 50 years old. This bed is in need of restoration. It has scratches and rub marks and then one post has a piece that broke off at the top and was glued back in. That is the picture you see that shows what looks to be a crack. I think that could easily be restored properly. This bed is solid and over all in very good shape. I have taken many pictures of each part of the bed after we took it down to give you a better idea of the condition. I have this priced to sell because of the condition.
