All the brass accent pieces seem to be there. The bed has its original rails(which are VERY hard to find) The rails angle down and have some paint chipping as well as some metal chipping, as shown. Someone in the past, has attached a small wooden bracket in the middle ... moreof the rails, I assume to help hold the mattress and box springs in place. Also the right hitch on the head board has a small chip off the corner. None of these damages effect the stability of the bed at all! On the bottom feet of the bed there are metal rods, I assume to hold casters? This item is located at my home in Ashville, Al. Holds 80" x 60" box spring& mattress(Queen size) Headboard is 83.5" tall(1/2" under 7' Foot board is 46.5" tall. Missing a couple of the little threaded brass balls that hold the twisted bars of solid brass to the foot board. But I'll pick up some replacements for them this week. Some tarnish on brass(all brass pieces are solid brass, NOT plated) Some chips and scratches in the white paint. One cast iron frame bracket has a couple pieces chipped off of it, but still works just fine(see pic) Overall in good condition. Very unique rare Victorian bed. i have a Vintage 1890's Victorian French Iron/Brass Bed with Mother of Pearl Motif on both ends. This is an extremly old bed that is well preserved for it's age. I tried to take pictures from all angles. I have not tried to repaint or refinish this piece. I thought someone might want to do it differently. There is only some surface rust and all the pieces except three small brass pieces on the footboard are all their including all four casters. The missing pieces are the little cap that goes on the horizontal cross bar, the little brass section that goes down from the cross bar on the footboard to the mother of pearl emblem and one other little small brass cap. This bed has the following measurements, the headboard is 60 inches tall x 53 inches wide, the footboard is 48 inches high x 53 inches wide, the bed itself measures 54 inches ... morefrom side to side, the mother of pearl emblems on each end measures 60 inches in diameter by 1 inch wide. We are pleased to offer to the market this great antique crib. This piece is made from wrought iron and has brass accents on the head and foot rails. It has been converted to a day and is being sold for display purposes only. The previous owner had cushions made to use as a day bed/bench. This piece measures as follows: Height = 41.5" Width = 29.5" Length = 54.5" 16" from floor to top edge of box spring. There is a 3" space between the rails on the end pieces and the side pieces have a 4" space between the rails. The metal box spring is intact with no damage to the springs. Both of the side rails are with htis piece. the fifth picture shows the unattached side leaning against it. One of the rods for attaching the side rails is bent. A second rod has the hook to hold side up broken and there is a very minor bend/sag ... morein the bottom part of one of the side rails. The piece has the original metal to hold the casters but does not have any casters on it. There are age and use appropriate scratches and dings to the paint. Antique 1905 Iron and Brass Double Bed
This beautiful ornate iron. Brass, silver-toned metal and oak double bed was in the home of the eminent and much-loved doctor, Giles Lucas, and his wife, Lucy Jane, when his daughter, who they also named Lucy Jane, was born in 1906 in Van Buren, Arkansas. It stayed in the mansion until 1970, when it was shipped to the home of Lucy Jane Cannon in Florida. The humid environment in Florida over the years caused the paint to peal, and concerns about health issues connected with lead paint led to the decision to remove all the loose paint. The present owners have removed some of the layer of lacquer which obscured the luster of the brass. The iron has had all the loose paint removed, as have the silver-colored metal ornaments at the intersection points. All four casters are in place. The bed is still in great shape, and is beautiful. Gorgeous Antique Victorian Brass and Rod Iron Bed
What a gorgeous victorian brass and rod iron bed this is. It may look crooked as i had to assemble it outdoors-no room inside to display it. Has wheels on the feet. Sitting on mulch. I spent 40 hours refinishing this, I normally do not touch antiques but it needed sprucing up. I polished the brass which was black. I put coats of rustoleum on first there was some bad areas on the frame and then about six coats of a white metal finish paint. Really want to keep this but had just purchased an antique eastlake set last winter. I did not put a mattres on it but a full size will sit on frame as does my eastlake set. To the tallest area on the headboard 62" 44-3/4" to the tallest area on the foorboard. The outside rails are 76-1/2" x 53-1/2" The last picture shows I am pointing to-I have the brass ball and there is threading ... moresticking up but I am afraid it will come off so you can put it on when you have the bed. I prefer this because the bed with a boxspring and mattress is way high off the floor and you don't get to see the whimsical form of the lovely ironwork on the headboard.so that is my suggestion. This is an antique brass and cast iron double bed from the 1800's. It is marked on metal tag: Whitcomb Metallic Bedstead Company Manufacturers. Shelton. Conn. It is a double bed measuring 54 inches wide. The siderails measure 75 inches long and the brass rails measure 82" The headboard is 57 inches high and footboard is 37 inches high. The bed is very heavy and solid. Some of the seams in brass are split a bit which is common. Everything is tight. The siderails are not original and have been resoldered with ends that fit the headboard/footboard. One of the corner cast iron receptacles has been rewelded/repaired but is fine. Nice old bed.
