Rare set of two antique heavy brass ball post twin beds from around the turn of the century early 1900’s. Heavy duty brass topped headboard with brass bars and lower footboard with ball posts. Cast iron fitted side rails drop into the cast iron receiver to lock them together tight. One set of side rails look as though they may not be original to the beds but they work just fine. Will need to tap them in with hammer. Both beds will accommodate standard twin size mattress and box spring. They are 80” long overall and 43” wide with mattress. The headboard posts stand 52” tall, 36” wide, the footboard are 36” tall, and 36” wide. Very well made antique brass beds that are very heavy duty. Mattress, and box-spring included.

ANTIQUE BEDROOM SET 1926 SEASHELL PATTERN BARKER BROTHERS OF LOS ANGELES This bedroom set has been in our family since 1926 when my mother and her adoptive parents arrived in Los Angeles. They were fleeing the law who wanted to take my mother away and nullify her adoption and give her to another relative. An Ohio State Representative and his wife, to raise along with her sister they already had adopted. Grandma and Grandpa slept on these beds in separate bedrooms. They became mine when my Grandma died. I used one to sleep in and refinished that back in the 1970’s. When mom and dad came to live with us we put these beds up for them but they were too big for the bedroom in our small cottage. Also. The little poodle doggie we adopted for them was chewing on the footboards newels. I could not tolerate that so I took them down. The set does need ... morerefinishing and the newels need sanded and stained. It will look good when redone. The one bed I did is pictured leaning up against the old barn. They have been stored in a brand new storage shed and before that under our bed in the bedroom. Notice the wooden wheels are still on the dresser on all four feet. I have the original side boards but had new cross boards made. It would be a nice addition to an old hotel being refinished to its original condition. Or, in a bed and breakfast home. They need to be taken good care of and appreciated and not abused. I am not sure of what style to call them. I don't know if they are Arts and Crafts, Art Deco, Hollywood Revival or what else to call them. They were purchased in Hollywood at the Barker Brother's Store there. At that time that was a big furniture store in L.A. They were famous for their mattresses. My Grandpa Reynolds worked for Barker Brothers in the mattress making department. It is hard to believe that very soon they will be 100 years old. That makes them 86 years old now. They do need lots of tender loving care. This pair of beautiful beds are made ... morefrom Mahogany with the bedheads being quartre veneer and mounted with ormolu along the shaped top and at the corners of the mouldings with crossed ribbon ormolu mounts down the sides. The base of the beds have herringbone veneer with the same ormolu mounts repeated along the bottom and at the corners with the ribbon ormolu to the sides. There are additional ormolu mountings to the base of the bed. On the side rails the herringbone inlay is repeated and the bedhead and base both terminate on turned legs. The bedhead is 133cm at the widest point across the top of the bed and comes down to 122cm across to the outside of the rails. The measurement between the rails(from the inside) is 115cm and the bedhead stands 142cm high. The bed base is 125cm across at the widest point and stands 88cm in height. The rails are 190cm in length and stand 15cm from the floor. These twin beds are not your average mattress size. Please check! The correct size mattresses can be made for the beds and your local bedding store will be able to give you a costing. The beds are in excellent condition. Tennessee known as Wheeler Furniture. They were brought back to the lower state of SC and used there until their move to Spartanburg, SC in 1975. They were placed in storage in 1980 and have been there for over 34 years until we pulled them out a few weeks ago. They are early 20th century made in the Chippendale era style. The manufacturer was well know back then and even today as an excellent furniture maker. One bed is complete with the original Mahogany side rails. It is in good condition with it's original finish. The rail connections are in good and tight condition and have never been damaged. There are wheel holes under each foot. The second bed is missing it's side rails but they can be replaced with aftermarket metal rails available locally or online. The only other flaw with the second bed is damage to one post of the footboard. please see pics of a couple splits and a loose dowel connection on the post itself right near the ... moresplits.
