This wonderful item features all individual panes of bubble glass. Carved broken arch pediment, 4 doors on the top, 2 doors on the bottom, 5 dovetailed drawers, drop front leather top writing surface, brass hardware, beautiful wood grain, and ample shelving. Each of the drawers has a working lock and the key is included. There are 3 glass shelves on the upper center and 6 wood shelves in the upper left and right unit. Each of lower doors conceals one wood shelf. The upper unit is lighted but the current cord should be replaced. This item is in wonderful antique condition with only minor signs of age appropriate wear as pictured. The original antique bubble glass is free from breaks or damage which is very hard to come by. The backing to the upper unit looks to be lined in a off white colored wall paper and there is a red drip stain to this surface as seen in image#18 on the lower left side. Wear to the finish on one of the shelves can also be seen in image#18. Breakfront measures 92"h x 72"w x 16"d in total. The upper unit measures 56"h x 70"w x 12"d. The lower unit measures 36"h x 72"w x 12"d. I have added many pictures so you can get the best idea of its beauty and condition and supersize all pictures for some great closeup shots. The chair frame is a little loose. Not bad but with that said a very useable and very comfortable piece! The back has deep tufting and the seat cushion I believe to be feather filled. The finish is like a light walnut, the chair has wonderful carving and the style is just fabulous! Measures 43" tall, 30" wide and about 36" in depth. It is in it's original unrestored condition and is in overall VG condition for it's age. Normal wear with some minor abrasions on top edges of floor board and on claw feet. Bed has been in family for 90 years and was purchased at the 1924 World's Fair in St. Louis. MO when the bed was approximately 100 years old. This beautiful Louis XIV-style bed was purchased by me at an Auction in the mid-1990s. I have no“official” authenticity paperwork. But the auction description and the auctioneer presented the bed as hand-carved in Germany in the early 1900’s. I had it appraised a few years ago for a retail value in the $6000-$7000 range. The platform for the mattress is slatted boards. Each board is hand notched and numbered to fit into hand notched slots. Very unique. I had to purchase a custom-sized mattress as the king mattress sold in retail stores do not fit. The mattress is 79” in length and 72” in width. Box springs are not needed. I do. However, have a ¾” piece of plywood between the slats and the mattress for stability. I have enjoyed it for many years. But find the bed no longer fits in the tiny house I recently purchased. So the bed and guards could slide together with the bed for cleaning. Used to keep our little dog from going under the bed. This bed needs cleaned and the help of a mahogany stain pen. Some of the wooden dowels will need to be reworked to use the 2 tall risers and finals. That go on the foot of the bed. There is 1 gum spot under the inside of 1 rail. 19th c American Chippendale Mahogany Acanthus Leaf Tall Post Tester Canopy Bed Being presented for sale is this grand 19th century American Chippendale Mahogany Acanthus Leaf Carved Tall Post Tester Bed. This 19th century bed features beautiful and substantial acanthus leaf and spiral twists carved mahogany tall posts with turned finials.A broken arch head-board with a carved finial at the center and four large ball& claw feet.This bed can be used with or without the tester frame. This fine bed bolts together very tight and sturdy. Truly a very impressive bed in wonderful antique condition. This grand 19th c bed was once a rope bed and the side rails appear to have been replaced at a later date to accommodate todays standard mattress length, there is one of the brass bolt covers missing at the head-board left side.
