It is prominently signed on the footboard post. This bed is heavily mounted with gilt bronze ormolu and in superior condition for its age. It is missing a small string of beading to the foot. The original paint has held up very well but has small chips consistent with age as expected for an antique approximately 100 years old. Amazingly the gold velvet has also held up which can be redone if the new owner desires. It is 51 inches high and uses a full size 54 x 75 inch mattress. All it should get is a dusting and a coat of paste wax and it will be ready to enjoy for another 100 years. Due to the size of this antique bed I would prefer that it be picked up. The pieces are constructed of mahogany and have been painted at some point. They are exceptionally ornate and feature French. Louis XVI details. The footboard features a triple arched detail and is faced with two fluted, dimensional columns. The fluted pattern is incised and diagonal which is very striking. The legs of the footboard are tuned wood with a block feature. There is also a round, fluted"acorn" shaped section with a unique, carved arch detail. An acanthus scroll pediment is attached below the footboard and it has a double wreath feature in the center section. There is also a beaded trim, which extends the length of the footboard, just above the legs. The headboard features the same, incised columns as the footboard. The edges of both the footboard and headboard are beveled so that the pieces are not just"flat" with no dimension. The matching two drawer nightstand/table features the acanthus scroll trim, beaded trim and leg pattern that are present on the footboard. It has an acanthus crown at center of the stretcher area. The two drawers have dovetail joints with the trim faced on the drawers. THIS IS A VERY ELEGANT AND BEAUTIFUL SET. It is in EXCELLENT structural condition. I am assuming that the set was painted to mask some minor cosmetic age as there is evidence of some surface chips and"dings" under the painted finish. This French antique bed is crisply carved and absolutely gorgeous. The frame is exquisitely embellished with scrolls of acanthus foliage, twisted rope carving inset in the molded frames, large bold scrolls terminating most major joints and repeating laurel leaves along the rails- however, due to the warmth of the painted surface, the overall effect is rather reserved and works well with a pretty broad range of decor. The frame retains it's original iron L brackets, each corner joining with large steel bolts projecting from the tenon into the mortise of the footboard and headboard legs. The armoire bears the inside the locks the marks: Ct LINKE Serrurerie PARIS" Characteristic of the original Linke furniture. one of the drawers lock is missing. The cabinet was later transform in a wardrobe. The main space has 2 shelves. 2 original small drawers and 6 big drawers, the lateral door spaces have 5 small shelves on each side. Amazing bronze foundry. Exceptional details. All the bronze pieces are complete, none missing. A new mirror was set in the front door. Both. This absolutely gorgeous bed is made out of the most beautiful Figured Walnut wood. The bed is all original including the too die for bronze ormolu! The finish on the bed is very good and has a lovely aged patina. This is one of those items I would love to keep.but. I don't have room at present.
