Vintage Highly Ornate Italian French Provincial King Size Bed Head Foot Rails
Highly ornate vintage king size bed Includes headboard. Footboard, and two rails. We also have mdf boards that act as a platform for the mattress that can be included if you would like them. This is an estate piece and as such could use some cleaning up Ivory pearl finish with bronze. Pink, purple, and green details This is a very large. Heavy piece Headboard stands approx 65" tall and measures approx 87" wide. I am not sure but believe it is made of some type of wood and then covered in a plaster gesso material This has some aged wear as can be expected with this type of furniture. There are some areas of damage most noticeably on the top of the footboard. This could be disguised by buying some ivory pearl paint and painting over the area. It won't look perfect but would camouflage the damaged area. I was going to do this myself ... morebut just simply do not have the time. There are some other spots where there are some paint chips/wear. Some areas of cracking of the plaster/gesso. See photos for further description and details. This item is pick up. I am unsure of the maker but this looks like it could be a Baker piece. Has a very continental look typically seen in Baker furniture from this period. Definitely a very handsome vintage piece that will look nice in many decorative settings. Measures 78 1/2" tall to the top of the post, and 48 1/2" tall in the middle, 73 1/2" wide and 2 3/4" deep. Good vintage condition. Some light scratches, scuffs and a few spots of paint loss. Structurally sound and displays very nice. French Rococo Mahogany King Bed - early 1900's
This beautiful Louis XIV-style bed was purchased by me at an Auction in the mid-1990s. I have no“official” authenticity paperwork. But the auction description and the auctioneer presented the bed as hand-carved in Germany in the early 1900’s. I had it appraised a few years ago for a retail value in the $6000-$7000 range. The platform for the mattress is slatted boards. Each board is hand notched and numbered to fit into hand notched slots. Very unique. I had to purchase a custom-sized mattress as the king mattress sold in retail stores do not fit. The mattress is 79” in length and 72” in width. Box springs are not needed. I do. However, have a ¾” piece of plywood between the slats and the mattress for stability. I have enjoyed it for many years. But find the bed no longer fits in the tiny house I recently purchased. They were originally the crown and base for a large armoire. They're a perfect size for use with a king size bed: the crown as a wall mounted headboard and the base as a floor level decoration at the foot of the bed. They are made from walnut veneers and solid walnut carvings and decorations that are finished to a warm honey color. This is a most unusual style pair of beds that came in on a French container. Which I believe were joined together in the factory to make an oversized king size bed. A normal full size bed is 54 x 75. The inside dimensions of this bed are 72 inches wide, and 78 inches long. It’s too wide to be a queen, which measures 60 x 80. We can make this into a king size bed, which is 80 x 80, for an additional $400. What this entails is putting in a center panel and center brace. This would look completely factory, and would be stunning. Or, you can buy it as is, and have a custom-made mattress fit to it. You can also split them up and use them as two odd-sized twins. Now, about the beds: They are beautiful, with unusual solid oak wreath carving of unblemished oak and berry carved crests on top. They have raised panel fronts, doubles on the headboard, ... morepicture frame molded panels on the footboard with picture frame molding underneath, little rosettes carved out of solid oak all through the front and back, and Hepplewhite style block legs. The footboards have diamond point mosaic panel inserted, with carved columns coming down the sides, and with the wreaths and tassels and all those carvings, it’s just a beautiful pair that would make a really nice-looking king bed. The size the way the beds are set up right now is 75.5 inches wide, 39 inches high at the footboard, and 57 inches high on the headboard. It’s finished in a medium oak stain, and the overall condition is great. The beds can also be taken apart to make the unusual sized twin beds, measuring 34 inches wide, by 77 inches long, if desired. I really hope that someone wants this as a king-size bed, because we love doing those up, and we do a great job! Not to mention the price, for which you cannot buy a king-size bed these days!
