ANTIQUE MISSION OAK BEDROOM DESK This desk is of the type used in bedrooms during the turn of the century due to the small size of most rooms during the early America years. In addition to being used as a desk they were also used as secretaries. Sewing tables and also doubled as a night stand. This desk measures 47 1/2" in length in the unfolded position. 23 1/2" folded x 23" deep x 25 1/2" high. The folding legs are turned and have wooden casters, and the drawers are made with dove tail joints. This is a very sturdy desk which I have been using for the past six years as my computer desk. There are a few blemishes which can be seen in the photo's which can be best described as scratches and a few heat scorch marks which may have been from an iron. A lamp to close to the surface, or from a sewing machines motor heat ... moreall of which add to the patina of this beautiful desk. It has not been re-finished and am sure it could be if the buyer chooses to do so. I am not sure of it's origin but have seen a few similar which have been described as an item made in New England. This is a rare opportunity to own this exquisite and very sturdy 1955 bedroom set/suite from the"ORLEANS COLLECTION" Manufactured by Dixon Powdermaker, and sold through the Furniture Department of B. Altman and Company, New York City. My Mother purchased the set at Altmans. The set has a Custom ordered finish; hand painted in several layers of rich Bone White with a slight yellowish tint. The final coloring was achieved with ultra thin brushed lines in light brown. The coloring is blended in such a subtle way that nearly defies description! The finish is accented with hand pressed real Gold Leaf. The red you see mixed into the Gold Leaf is part of the leafing mixture. FOR SALE: A gorgeous antique bedroom set. Pitcher. Wash basin and chamber pot with cover are in excellent condition, remarkable for their age, no chips or cracks and only the slightest discoloring. The beautiful pattern is called'Phlox' and my photos don't do justice to its rich yet delicate colors. The pitcher measures 11" tall x 8" wide x 5" diameter at the top. Wash basin: 5 1/2" tall x 15 1/4" diameter. The chamber pot: 5 1/4" tall x 9" diameter at the top. Age unknown but my best guess is mid to late 19th c. A wonderful addition to any collection, and frankly, as useful now as when first made.
