This stunning antique textile would have once used as a bedding pelmet ~ it dates c1850 ~ it is simply gorgeous!~ The fabric used to make this stunning textile is a roller printed madder brown fabric. It is an arborescent. Floral design with stunning vermicular design ground. ~ ~The root of the madder plant Rubia Tinctorum. Produces a vegetable dye that has been used since the ancient Egyptians. It is very colorfast and can produce such a wonderful wide range of colors depending on the mordant used. In the case of this textile, the colors include a wonderful range of madders: rusty red, warm deep taupe, pale mauve and deep purple!~ The left side of this pelmet is slightly more faded than the right side, so most likely was the side that faced the window! please see photograph 11 to see the fading ... moredifference of the two panels) ~*~ Just beautiful! ~*~ The front madder fabric is a very finely woven, light weight cotton, plain weave. The top section of this textile has a wonderful hand woven linen band that runs along the top edge, used for nailing this textile to the bed. ANTIQUE BED CANOPY CIEL DE LIT Purchased in France a couple of years ago. I intended to add silk swags. But never got around to it. Now I'm redecorating my bedroom and this has to find a new home. Hopefully who can give it the love it deserves! Okay. So it has quite a few woodworm holes, which can be filled. And also a crack, which also needs filling. However. It's sturdy when fitted to the wall, although it will need support at the front. Hook and eye, with wire up to a beam in the ceiling? Simply because it's reasonably heavy. Gorgeous antique French twin bed. Made entirely of metal with cast decorations. This bed has been skillfully painted with a faux-bois design giving the impression of richly grained woods. The head and footboards have then been further decorated with brightly colored flowers highlighted in gold. The elegant scrollwork that crowns the tops of each end features a crowned shield braced by two sirens or mermaids and the four feet have been cast in a dolphin or fish shape. This rare and beautiful piece most likely dates from the mid to late 19th century. The custom made cushion is newer. Overall the bed is in good antique condition. 1870's stunning antique french hand carved double bed
It is in incredible condition. There is a slight damage where the old wood that is vaneered over the other wood a small patch has come off long before i got it but it doesnt show as its where the bedding and your feet are, it has everything all slats etc, i brought it over from france when i moved here amongst many other beautiful pieces i am doing a non profit film and i am trying to raise some money for it, hence why i am selling it, they only made a certain amount this is numbered 561, i live in astoria new york so if you want to come and see it then call my cell 917 528 1979 and you can see it put together it is so chic incredibly carved french antique, i will take more pictures

This period was a revival of the 18 th century Louis the 14 th Versailles period and the Louis the 15 th Belle Époque period. The‘beautiful period. ... moreThe design of this bed was definitely taken from Versailles. Napoleon the 3 rd revived the Belle Époque period or Louis the 15 th period. During this revival they used elements from nature in their design. Water, trees, flowers, animals and they were very exaggerated. The appraisers went on to say; the proof in this piece of this period is in the size of the escargot or snail feet. This is a very exotic Le Bateau and the curlicues or sea scrolls and S curves are in amazing shape. The wave shapes are beautiful and very evident during this period. This bed is called in French‘double face’ meaning one side is plain and would go against the wall also it can be positioned straight off the wall or its side to the wall. They continued saying: It is absolutely all original. Wood, paint, plaster and gold. The gilt or gold was tamped on with a brush and the red bol is showing through. The red bol was made with clay and water and it had to be sticky to apply the gold when they layered it on in sheets. This is all original plaster; you can see the brush lines where they tamped the gold with a brush. Every part of this bed is original and I know for certain it is Napoleon the 3 rd. It

Approximately 18 inches long by 12 1/4 inches high by 11 1/4 inches wide This bed is absolutely fantastic! I believe the bed to be walnut wood but I am not really sure. It is stunning with the center medallion and the 2 inset panels which were stained with a slightly lighter stain than the rest of the bed making it look exceptionally rich! The turned/ twisted spindle Jenny Lind style posts have a candle flame like top. There are four slats which I believe are totally original to the bed. It is missing several of the other slats but the mattress lays fine on the four that are there. The slats fit into grooves in the bed so they are secure to hold the mattress I believe the mattress is also original to it but I'm not quite sure. We are pleased to offer this EXQUISITE antique to older vintage(1930s/40s) single bed(including rails) and matching nightstand. The pieces are constructed of mahogany and have been painted at some point. They are exceptionally ornate and feature French. Louis XVI details. The footboard features a triple arched detail and is faced with two fluted, dimensional columns. The fluted pattern is incised and diagonal which is very striking. The legs of the footboard are tuned wood with a block feature. There is also a round, fluted"acorn" shaped section with a unique, carved arch detail. An acanthus scroll pediment is attached below the footboard and it has a double wreath feature in the center section. There is also a beaded trim, which extends the length of the footboard, just above the legs. An incised, rope trim is found at the top. ... moreThe headboard is also ornate with a center acanthus crown at the arched top. This is flanked with a carved finial detail on each side. The headboard features the same, incised columns as the footboard. The edges of both the footboard and headboard are beveled so that the pieces are not just"flat" with no dimension. The matching two drawer nightstand/table features the acanthus scroll trim, beaded trim and leg pattern that are present on the footboard. It has an acanthus crown at center of the stretcher area. The two drawers have dovetail joints with the trim faced on the drawers. THIS IS A VERY ELEGANT AND BEAUTIFUL SET. It is in EXCELLENT structural condition. I am assuming that the set was painted to mask some minor cosmetic age as there is evidence of some surface chips and"dings" under the painted finish. These are not severe and they are certainly not distracting. All of the exterior. VISIBLE areas are painted in a dove gray color with a slight blue hue. This intricately carved walnut double bed was purchased by my parents in France in the mid-1950's. The style is typical of beds crafted in France at the turn of the 20th century. While stored. Antique French Linen and cut work lace bed sheet. Hand made. This sheet is from the late 1900’s and was clearly made by hand. The stitch work is visible on the back. The sheet is made of fine linen and in almost perfect shape. It is very long, almost 20” longer than a normal sheet, because the lace is meant to fold over the coverlet for that amount. The lace extends through the sides of the sheet to about 20” making it a very charming addition to a romantic bed. The sheet is slightly off white in color, may be due to age or that is the color it always was. It could be sun bleached to make it brighter, but it has not been done. There is one flaw with the sheet: it has two repairs on one side as shown in the last photo. The sheet is priced bearing this in mind. Above this a smaller ring also held by the arms with a wonderful bottle green majolica dome with beautiful flowers. Leaves and berries and topped with a decorative gilt finial. It has three ornate bronze hanging chains to a pretty ceiling rose and ring for ceiling fixing and is in all in very good condition. Fine as a whisper. This rare to find delicate cover has survived incredibly well considering it's age. There is one repair and one tiny hole, a couple of pulled threads and a couple of the silky frothy tassels are missing- nothing major and all easy to live with, please see all photographs. Beautifully decorated with typical 20's motifs of open fans, florals and scrolls and curls. Designed to have the full pattern showing with the tassels to either side draped over the sides of the bed. Made in France. It's a lovely example of Breton or Quimper carving; it also comes with a full feather mattress and modern doll quilt so dollie doesn't catch cold! Take a careful look at the carving- the headboard has leaves. Berries, and a stylized Tudor rose at center; the footboard features an asymmetrical floral design of leaves, ... morevines, buds, and a central cross within a diamond(so the child can see the crucifix at night, a design seen in full sized Breton beds) and even the tops of the posts have Malteze crosses, just lovely. The headboard and footboard have curved piece panels; we think the bed slats(which are removable) may be later, possibly c1950s, or just made from lesser woods. This is heavy. But able to be disassembled; most of the screws seem to be the originals, with just a couple of later replacements; we will take it apart for shipping. It also comes with a lovely little ticked cotton feather mattress, probably c1930s era, which fits the bed perfectly, and a more modern pieced cotton quilt; some stains to mattress but quilt looks almost new. No chips or cracks to the bed, just allover vintage dust and dirt and vintage wear as to be expected. We've shown you the bed with a 17" antique bisque baby in it- this would fit quite a large variety of dolls- or several could crowd in at once for a delightful antique display! This item did not have such a rough trip as it made it to Portland via sailing ship to Astoria then by paddlewheel to Portland. It was purchased for $1,250 in the 1980's from the Antique shop(listed on the bed sticker) that specialized in European Antiques and it was identified as being from France, circa 1825. With panels of homespun wool and hemp blend and pure wool hand stitched together to form this large piece. This textile has patches, many darns, large holes and small holes dotted all around. It's magnificent and is ideal for any timeworn, period home. Most of the wonderful hand repairs are made in black cotton. Some panels rich and saturated others have faded unevenly with time ~ The top has the original metal rings for hanging. This was used as a privacy bed curtain in the 18th century. The top has a hand stitched black trim for added strength in hanging.
