DESCRIPTION: An elegant chest of drawers-c. 1950-designed by the acclaimed British architect and furniture designer. Terence Harold Robsjohn-Gibbings(1905-1976) From 1943 until 1956, Robsjohn-Gibbings was the lead designer for the Widdicomb Furniture Company of Grand Rapids, Michigan. During this time, Widdicomb was widely known for its production of stylish and well-crafted Modernist furniture. The solidity of this piece exemplifies Widdicomb's high standard in furniture-making. It has both the Widdicomb/Gibbings tag and the stamped-metal seal for Grand Rapids Furniture(see photos) Widdicomb carried several versions of this chest of drawers, mostly in six drawers(tall or short) or three drawers. This chest, with double dove-tail construction, has three wide drawers set within a bezeled frame. The exterior wood is a bleached-walnut veneer. ... moreThe top drawer has compartments and a Widdicomb label(see photos) It also has a removable box for use in one of the drawers. The dresser, which is heavy, moves on recessed metal casters. DIMENSIONS: 51 1/4" L x 21" D x 31" H CONDITION: Partially restored. It originally had attached shelving with glass doors. When we acquired it, the shelving had been detached and only a portion of it remained. The entire piece was also spray-painted avocado green. We concentrated on repairing and refinishing the chest of drawers without the shelving. The paint has been removed, and the exterior has been carefully repaired, sanded, stained, and refinished. When we stripped the paint, the exposed walnut veneer on the top surface had a sharp contrast between the original brown patinated veneer-protected beneath the shelving-and the veneer bleached by years of exposure to sunlight(see photo) The remedies for this disparity were replacing the top veneer, which would not match the bleached walnut elsewhere on the piece, or painting the chest. We are pleased to offer this beautiful. Vintage, French Provincial, 9 drawer dresser. This is a fabulous, QUALITY piece manufactured by Link/Taylor before they were obtained by Lexington Furniture Company. The dresser is dated August, 1970. The dresser is substantial. It has 9 drawers with the middle three drawers concealed behind a double, decorative door. The dresser is antique white with a slightly mottled finish. It features both gold and silver leaf accents. The hardware is very nice. The door pulls have long back plates with a faux key pull. The doors have a pierced brass accent that flank the arches. The brass is of a floral motif. I cannot tell whether this is original, but it is old and it is quite striking. The sides of the dresser have arched panels with wide wooden trim. The legs are a short cabriole and the bottom features a ... morescalloped apron trim. This is a gorgeous dresser with an abundance of functional storage as the drawer space is quite generous. It is EXCEPTIONALLY HEAVY. We have the matching nightstands and the tall chest available in separate listings. The chest is in very good condition with some minor areas of aged/worn painted finish. It is very sturdy. The chest measures 32.25" tall. It is 71.75" wide and 19.75" front to back. The six side drawers measure 20.5" wide. 16" front to back and 6" tall. The handles have copper toned trim. I don't know the exact age. This is a rare piece to find in this condition. The top has two strips inlayed one on each side. This classic piece is in good original condition, and it has a light/medium Walnut stain finish color. This classic Dresser has a stylish design. With interesting and unusual inset wood handles on the drawers, see pictures. The front panels of this Dresser slide to cover either side of the Dresser, see pictures, and there are dove-tailed drawers with inset glass on the left side. This wonderful Dresser has dove-tailed drawers on the right that are made out of solid wood on the inside. And they are working properly.
